This is a half baked idea not even close to being ready for prime time. If left alone from all the politicians the technology will develop and get better. Problem is that it is being forced down our throats and we are being told how great it is going to be for us. Kind of like how Obama care was, but politicians kept there health care. This is why socialism is such a bad idea and doesn’t work. New ideas and new technology will develop on its own in a free capitalist society. Government control stifles ideas and creativity and always has. It’s a very dangerous situation to our freedoms when the government thinks they know what is best for us even when we are telling them it isn’t.

I know. US sent Armstrong and Aldrin to the moon because free capitalist society sent them there - few rich people thought it was great way to make money.... Oh, wait...

I don't think you have slightest clue about how the technology progressed over the years and who paid for it or you missed some really basic school classes.

Vast majority of new technology being invented is paid by - spoiler alert - you. The taxpayer. AKA government. Socialism in your words. I work for one of the corporations that have been inventing things over last almost 100 years.

The reality is that neither path, left to its own devices, works well. They work well in balance, and we (the taxpayers) will always argue about what the right balance is. More importantly, there will always be politicians that are making the decisions that affect that balance.

Innovation comes from someone’s idea to improve something and is rewarding by the potential to make money. That is how capitalism works and it’s why this country has been so innovative over many generations. The last few decades or so, things are changing. It is getting harder and harder for an average person to get into politics or develop an idea into a booming business, although it is still possible. Big government and big cooperations are in control. That is the opposite on what needs to be. These car companies are spending trillions because they are being forced to. This idea is not ready for prime time. They can’t figure out how to stop loosing charge when it is cold outside in the Ford Lightning. The product failure will lead people to stop buying cars as often and ultimately tear down the profits of the automakers. I am certain this will result in some bankruptcies down the road. I am not going to start an argument or stoop to your level of insulting remarks. I am simply stating some facts. If you are offended, don’t reply

I'm far from offended, just hard to get over something that makes literally zero sense. You chose to ignore example I've given. I can bring here thousands of them that were developed without purpose of making money on it.

Btw - Tesla is a car company being forced to make electric cars and ultimately tear down its profits.... Oh, wait again.... LOLOL. You're bringing up Ford Lightning, I can guarantee that Ford wasn't forced to make it. The only reason they did is for the reasons you're stated - to make money but not missing on a market that has taken off and is constantly growing - 60% year over year - this is exactly the capitalism you're talking about . You're being fed some nonsense (sounds like straight off the conspiracy thread).

Btw - Problem with people who love capitalism is that in their infinite wisdom they choose to not understand that what's it is when it bites them back (through increased prices for example).

Who forced Tesla to make electric cars?

Everybody loves Yellow school buses because of their affect on the significance of the passage of time. Everybody knows this.

Tesla has made most of its money by other car companies including a ton from Chrysler paying for carbon credits. Does this sound like free market.

There is definitely some truth in what you say. But, really, it has been a combination of government and private industry that has made the US so successful (so far).
.
It works best when we allow the government to fund research that private companies otherwise would never do, because of industry's need for quarterly profits to keep stock price up. That said, I am also of the opinion that this whole EV thing has been handled crazy-poorly, and the federal and state govt's are pushing too hard and thus pushing their luck.
.
One example of gov't intervention that has paid dividend upon dividend upon dividend is forcing the automakers to {A} design vehicles for better occupant protection (that, of course, also heavily influenced by the insurance companies), and {B} instituted emissions controls. The auto industry TOTALLY and COMPLETELY failed their customers on those two major fronts, and without the gov't forcing the issue, the automakers would have done nothing.
.
Hence, IMO, it takes a balance of gov't and industry to make our fortunate, prosperous American society work well, but from time to time the balance of power goes too far. It'll correct itself, as it always has, as long as every citizen takes their civil responsivblities seriously, and maintains civility and cooperation in the process.

The money came from the Government for political goals (not common welfare as socialists would suppose), but the CREATIVITY came from capitalist profit centric corporations like your employer who invent to beat out competitors.

Just as Space-X has Musk centric species survival goals it still must compete to get contracts and perform on those contracts. His companies push technology forward while fighting for necessary profit.

Government entities literally CANNOT patent innovations. As a former computer scientist and physicist at the US Patent Office (I approved the Energy Star patent under protest) I understand that all government IP (Intellectual Property) is by definition public domain. This restriction may seem philanthropic but it doesn't generally work that way.

I'm sorry, but if you choose to take an EV on a 1,400 mile road trip, regardless of which, then you have absolutely terrible judgement. No idea how he would have scrapped together $85k to purchase the thing working with this level of brain power.

EVs are hobbies, side projects, 2nd vehicles. They cannot be your sole transportation for a very long time to come.

Diesel engine running a AC/DC generator.
Wheel motors are DC. Everything else is AC.
I know because I operated them and worked on them.
RG Letourneau was a brilliant engineer. I am sure that if he were alive today he could design something that would change the current ( pun intended) EV trajectory with common sense technology.
