My dealer straight up lied to me about a 3rd party warranty (said I could not purchase the vehicle without it). If I had my head on right at the time I would've just opted for the Mopar one and called it a day.
I've never had that happen but they do always try to pitch the warranty. I have only bought a few cars directly from dealerships though. That seems like a criminal tactic, you can always cancel your contract if you're not too far in but you have to read the terms.
I cancelled a time share many years ago after signing up for it and I'd swear they were pumping oxygen in the room or something. I got home and read through everything, realized I couldn't go to any of the places they said for as long as they said and wondered what the heck I was thinking. Canceled within the week window by sending a certified letter, regular letter and calling while I was out of state. I absolutely did not want to be stuck with that.
It might be. You would have to ask if it is as most dealerships will try to sell you a 3rd party policy. They make more money off of it and will take that inflated price and roll it into the financing so you can stomach $4 extra a month better than $4000.
Any dealership can sell you an FCA extended warranty but they can also charge whatever they want for it depending on the profit margin they want. Usually the best price you'll get is through an on-line source even though it's still a dealership.
My wife just bought a new Ford Ranger. The finance guy wanted to sell me an extended warranty (and was pushing hard). I asked if it was a Ford policy and he said they offer both Ford and 3rd party. When I asked the price of the Ford policy I pulled out my phone, went to Zeigler's site (they sell Ford extended warranties too) and showed him an initial quote that was $600 less than what he was offering me. He said that was below cost for their dealership and he stopped asking.
I got my extended warranty through Zeigler and will get my wife's Ford one through them too in the next couple of months.
The reason I asked is because I was not offered that option when we were able to find someone to finally discuss FCA warranties. The highest they could go was only 8 years and, i think, 125k miles. I would totally believe what you and others are saying about them making more from third parties, when they compared them for the same plan the Mopar one was 500 more. I then quoted them the MSRP ( not even the discounted prices) from the links given and they said something like "oh yeah, we can sell you that but we'll be losing money."
One of them offered something through Portfolio Services and another looked like a Ford warranty for a RAM truck. Two others never replied back. The Ford one they claimed wasn't third party. Might not be as bad as other third parties, may even be better, but I don't think I want to find out and I'm not sure why they chose that route for a RAM vehicle.
I know now I can just purchase it online, just sharing my experience. How long has Mopar been offering extended warranties?
