Hi Lydia, can you add anything?

I mean have you seen any sort of heightened activity about eTorque... internal memo's, discussions, advisories,... ?

Can you request a technical manager to come here and discuss this with us?

It would be cool if Lydia or a Representative answerd some questions for us. I regret buying the 2019 Rebel with E Torque more and more everyday. I wish I would have kept my Laramie I traded in.
I average 9 City 14/15 Highway.
Maybe if the Gas tank was bigger it wouldn’t bother me so much.
But If I actually pulled our Camper I’d get about 6 MPG as it sits now.
Honestly I want to trade it in but don’t want to take the $10,000.00 hit. I just bought it.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know that I just bought my 2019 ram with 3.6 pentastar and etorque on Saturday the 29th with under 100 miles and I am having the same issue with check engine light and etorque system light coming on. I drove it a little bit but watched as the battery voltage drained slowly with no recharge. When I got home I plugged it in to my scanner and code said that the truck lost connection to the hybrid system module. I then turned it off and back on and it ran fine with battery back to normal charging. This morning, started again and same issues. I texted my salesman today and will be meeting him at the dealership to drop off for a loaner until it is fixed. I'll keep you guys updated.

Update- I got mine back today. (2 days total) they gave it to there most senior technician to diagnose and they also consulted with "star" and found that the 12 pin end of the wiring harness that connects to the generator had 2 pins loose with bad connection. They repaired the wiring harness and everything is working fine now. (No parts replaced) I drove about 30 miles today and it's running great. Only 80 miles total on the truck. I'll update again later and let you guys know if I run into anymore issues.

OS, that just ain't right no matter which way you slice it.

How many miles on your truck?

Where you located? (a general location is fine)

Are you fully warmed up before checking fuel economy?

Are you stating hand calculated numbers or trip computer?

What gas you using? (octane, brand, and ethanol content)

Carrying any sort of load in the box?

Do you hear brakes dragging? Rotors/calipers unusually hot?

Do your tires rotate freely when jacked off the ground?

What tire pressures you running? What tires do you have?

I’ve Got close to 2000 miles on it. Nothing in the bed. Soft Trifold cover in it. Just had the updates done. And had everything checked. Dealer Service said to see if the updates help. But I haven’t noticed much.
I’m in the Cincinnati area. So there’s some Hills and Flats.
I do more city driving than Highway, that’s why I got the E Torque Start/Stop.
My Average City is 9.5-11 using the Start Stop.
Average Highway is 12-14/15
On the highway I can get it up to 15-16 driving conservative.
Of course going down a hill the Current MPGs goes way up to 99 but the slightested incline and I’m getting as low as 4 MPGs.
If I let it idle for more than a few minutes in Park my MPG Average drops a lot.
I restart the tripometers.
I just started using 89 Octane so maybe that coupled with the 3 TSB updates will help me out once I get a few more miles on it. I love the truck otherwise. I’m honestly not “Hating” on the truck, I just feel like it’s a Lemon and there’s either something wrong with it Or Ram rushed the E Torque. The only reason I got the E Torque was to get better City MPGs lol.

Does it drive fine otherwise and the power feels right?

Any blackening or unburnt fuel inside the tailpipe after a hard run?

Is your air filter clean and can see daylight through it?

The truck runs good. It has plenty of power. The Start/Stop seems to work ok. I’ve tried driving with it On and Off for a few days. I can say I honestly don’t see much gas savings using the Start Stop
. It does have a drag going down hill that’s more pronounced than our previous Laramie and 2015 Rebel. I figured that would be due to it sittin a Little higher.
I assume the dealer checked everything out like the air filter and tire pressure last week when they did the updates.
I cringe thinking about how bad the MPGs will be this summer when I actually start pulling my Dads Camper and Boat with it. I’ll be stopping for Gas every other exit lol.

what I find interesting is that it seems to just be a few of us that are getting this bad MPGs. But it’s a new system. Hopefully Ram is working to address all the issues as we speak.

The drag that you mention is interesting. Have you test driven other eTorque trucks and do they have this same drag?

Any possibility of you giving your truck to a service manager for a take-home test; let them drive it and see the mpg's first hand... and then see if they think it's "normal".

Nothing should be assumed at this point. Put a gauge on your tires. Pop the air filter and take a peak. Hand calculate the fuel economy.

I feel for ya... and here's what I'd do:

Hang tight for now, maybe a couple months, see if anything develops. Maybe another TSB. Maybe nothing.

If no improvements and no TSB, and you're dang sure yours has a problem... I'd trade for another new truck. Seriously.

It's a hit. It sucks. But better than 5 years in an unhappy truck. Maybe seek out a dealer who empathizes with you and willing to strike a deal.

That’s the plan. Im going to give the TSB updates some time to see if they fix anything. I’m not going to drive it much or haul anything with it for now. If things don’t improve I’ll be trading it in for another truck.
Honestly I think it bothers me more that I have to fill it up so much. Maybe if it had a bigger tank it wouldn’t bother me so bad. I’m at the Gas Station every other day sometimes.

New here. 1st post. This thread has been very helpful. Took delivery of my Laramie with eTorque New Year's Day and am having the main issue highlighted in this thread. I took to dealer today to get the codes diagnosed and will be dropping it off Tuesday (I already had a service appt for running board installation so decided to bring it in then).

There were 2 issues found. First was the eTorque battery issue discussed here, second related to EPS. Has anyone one here come across that one also? I don't remember seeing it but could have missed it. I've literally had my truck for 5 days and have put no more than 150 miles on it and it will be going back into the shop for what sounds like a lengthy stay. Irony of all ironies, my previous truck was a used '11 1500 Big Horn that was a buyback due to a TPM issue and didn't have a single issue with it for 3 years. Now I buy a new one with a $64K MSRP and it literally will be in the shop a week later. Ugh.

Hey RDT. Welcome aboard. Would you mind clarifying...

... your eTorque battery issue, meaning low-charge or not-charging?

... what's EPS?

Guess I should consider myself fortunate. I bought my 2019 Laramie with eTorque Hemi back in the first week of October. It has an August build date. I now have 7200 miles on it. Have taken it on 2 trips so far: 1 from Raleigh NC to Charleston SC, the other from Raleigh to Baltimore. So far, my only issue is the squealing brakes. I hear there is a new front pad design dealers can install, but I am waiting for some better aftermarket pads to come available and will just upgrade.

As far as mileage. My commute to work is 17 miles each way. A mix of city streets and a little highway. She averages 13.7mpg when I drive her, 16.2 with the missus drives her. On our last trip to Baltimore, I was getting 22mpg on the highway.

Guess I lucked out and got a good one. Here's hoping this post didn't jinx me.

Electrical, based on what service guy said, not charging. I go back Tuesday so I'll know for sure.

And yes, EPS is the electric power steering. I'll check for a post specifically on that one, but was just curious if anyone else having the eTourque issue was also having and EPS issues, too.

That's true, but I work with many kinds of engineers, you would be surprised on stuff that goes through after being tested. Besides that, it's probably not a big deal, but I am quite sure they could have done a bit more stress testing on quite a few more of these before pushing them out.

Yeah, I work with a ton of engineers. They can get kinda spacey. I get it, they get drug in a lot of directions every day.

No word on eTorque issue yet... because I brought it in a day early because the back of my cab was flooded from a water leak on Sunday due to unseated drain seals between the cab and bed. The hits just keep on coming!

Once I get info on the eTorque issue I will share here. Figured I’d provide comic relief in the meantime. Thanks.
