ETorque Issue

I kind of chuckle as I read through this thread. As a owner of a first year (2011) F 150 half ton heavy duty with ecoboost I endured all the sage comments from knowledgeable sources that the turbo would blow, too much stress, not tested enough, not worth the cost..... Well now 8 years and 178,000 miles lets go over the problems I have had..............crickets................

Now I am going to order a etorque. Some of us are early adopters, and some of us are not.

Another thing is that lithium battery, if that gets punctured in an accident, that's basically a bomb. I believe lithium batteries can explode when punctured or something
Based on the location of the battery pack, if that were to be punctured in some way, you have waaay more problems than the battery pack. It's on the back wall behind the rear driver's side seat. Your truck would have to sustain massive damage to impact the battery pack.

I'm moving forward with an eTorque engine. I'm not really a 'worry wart' type of person but do want to understand what I may be getting myself into. Now that I said I'll take one with eTorque...apparently they can get me my truck tomorrow.

That sounds familiar. Was in a time crunch and couldn't find what I wanted that was non-eTorque. I'm a techie and am actually digging it.

I rolled over 8,000 miles on Christmas, got the truck the last week of August with 160 miles on it. I have the eTorque and aside from the powertrain update that I know I need done, I have zero problems with it and I get decent (not great) mileage with it. I run the remote start and drive on CT highways in rush hour every day, so it's not the best place to maximize MPG no matter what you drive. The same drive in my Tundra (4:30's for the rear end, no optional diff on those trucks), using the remote start all the time just like the Ram, I got about 13-14 mpg. With the eTorque Ram and 3.21's, I get between 14 and 16, depending on if I go over 70mph during a drive.

+1. Got mine middle of August, 8k miles now. Zero issues. I'm averaging around 16 which is just like other Hemis. I haven't had any updates done to my truck or even had it in for anything! (It has gotten one uconnect update that still didn't fix the misspelled words!)

Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know that I just bought my 2019 ram with 3.6 pentastar and etorque on Saturday the 29th with under 100 miles and I am having the same issue with check engine light and etorque system light coming on. I drove it a little bit but watched as the battery voltage drained slowly with no recharge. When I got home I plugged it in to my scanner and code said that the truck lost connection to the hybrid system module. I then turned it off and back on and it ran fine with battery back to normal charging. This morning, started again and same issues. I texted my salesman today and will be meeting him at the dealership to drop off for a loaner until it is fixed. I'll keep you guys updated.

I've had my eTorque truck since August and haven't had any problems.

Sounds like a new 48V battery coming your way unfortunately. If it needs swapping it may take a bit as it's a third party vendor item and stock is slim.

By the time summer rolls around this will have become a non-issue. Replacement parts will be sitting on the shelves at the parts depots around the nation. It'll just be a repair like a bad wheel bearing, power window motor or anything like that. No different than an alternator/charging system issue on standard engines.

It's been about three months since the service department fixed my vehicle and I've driven about 5000 miles without anymore issues..

Glad to hear this. Is your fuel economy near EPA ratings?

The 12/4v cell pack is smaller than a car battery. The actual battries are around the size of a pack of hot dogs. Nothing like the size/danger of a true hybrid battery. Plus it's in the middle of the back wall of the truck. You'd be in a world of problems if it got hit there.

I have little argument for/against. Maybe in some months fuelly will tell the tale.

Well, it finally happened... Everything was going great since I got my truck back, and in fact I was prepared to post a positive follow up tonight. BUT earlier this evening I was tooling around town and came to a stoplight. The truck automatically shut itself off as usual, but when the stoplight turned green and I lifted my foot from the brake, it wouldn't restart. I had to put it in Park and push the start button to get it restarted. The exact same thing happened at the next stoplight I came to, and then the dreaded Check Engine Light came back on. I got home and pulled out my code reader and found two new codes related to the eTorque system.

Needless to say, I am beyond livid at this point. Three trips and 27 days at the dealership, and it's still having issues. Since I got the truck over two months ago, I haven't got to drive it more than two weeks at a time between shop visits.

I beg to differ... Right now, it's not about parts availability. It's about the service techs not having a clue as to what's actually going on because it's uncharted territory for them. With a wheel bearing or power window motor it's pretty easy to diagnose the source of the issue. The eTorque system is much more complicated and infinitely more difficult to diagnose. And for those of us having issues NOW, having it figured out by this summer is six months too late.

Sorry to hear. Im concerned about my truck doing the same thing. I just got it back after 5 weeks at the dealer for etorque issue but havent really driven it much. I'm due to take a trip this weekend and worried about what might happen. This sucks for sure.

Not a good prognosis from the dealership. My truck needs a new etorque system and it's so new they cannot order one so they are waiting to here from Chrysler corporation on what to do... the dealership has no idea how long it will take to get parts.
You should tell them you want a new truck.
I’m on my 4th Ram since 2012 and I’m not happy with mine either. I hate the E Torque Start/Stop and the MPGs are Sh!t...

Yeah I would if RAM would get back to me. The rep called about 3vweeks ago and said she'd call me in a week with options. Still waiting for a callback.

Obviously you need a dealership that can properly diagnose an issue first. My point is that for dealers that are able to diag problems, in a few months, they will be able to get parts next day. Which they can't right now based on the previous posts I read in this thread.
