Purchased my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie on 9-11-19.
I wanted a silver laramie with Sport Appearance Package, Level 1 Entertainment Package, and a moon roof. In order to get this configuration without waiting several months I had to get the etorque engine. Well I should have waited....and not got the new eTorque engine.

I drove the vehicle around for a week without issues. This weekend a warning symbol came on for the eTorque changing system. Later that day it stopped working all together and my engine light came on. Soon after that the engine and battery light were on. Now my vehicle is at the dealership waiting to be fixed. Less than two weeks old and under 700 miles. 20180923_160315.jpg 20180923_145427.jpg

Bummer to have that happen, please keep us posted on what the dealer finds out, and what they do to the truck. First eTorque malfunction I have heard of on the site so hopefully it’s a “one-off” that is quickly and easily troubleshot and fixed... Fingers crossed.

I have to stop reading all these threads or I'm never going to enjoy my truck. I keep waiting for something to break. Coming from a Toyota that I owned for 10 years and never had to repair anything, this is not relaxing for me. Good luck with your rig. Mine is almost the exact same truck, minus the sport package.

Not a good prognosis from the dealership. My truck needs a new etorque system and it's so new they cannot order one so they are waiting to here from Chrysler corporation on what to do... the dealership has no idea how long it will take to get parts.

Yikes. I've been inclined to stay away from eTorque because I expect longer-term problems and lack of parts availability as the system evolves quickly over the years. Never expected the systems to be virtually DOA. Granted, this is only the second eTorque problem I've heard of so far.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if they could remove the malfunctioning eTorque, and revert your hemi to a traditional alternator while you were waiting for the parts? Now that would be a smart design... reversible! That would ease the worries of anyone concerned about the new tech too.

I would ask them to ask Ram about it just to see, though I bet I know the answer.(n)

I remember a starter problem but not another eTorque problem... what was the deal with the other you heard of?

I remember a member saying his father's truck has been dead at the dealership for a month. I'm pretty sure the start/stop wasn't working so it's an eTorque issue. If I'm wrong, my apologies. I don't mean to spread misinformation.

I just reviewed that thread and didn’t see anything on pages 6,7, or 8 to match this. Will you provide a link to that post?

Please try to find a link to that post.

I’m curious to have these links verified, as I’ve heard of very few eTorque-related issues. @Snake_chad is the only one I can recall that has needed replacement.

I’m guessing there are a whole bunch of us that have problem-free eTorque systems. They’re soon to become more commonplace than alternators on these trucks.

I had trouble finding the first one too Speedy and I agree we should link reports as much as we can. I think @Snake_chad was referring to @travelerut ’s problem linked below. Hey TravelerUT, did your dealership confirm an eTorque problem or was it something else? Symptoms do sound similar.

I don’t remember reading the other report Ramjack references, about the guy reporting about his Dad’s report... ;) (glad Ramjack recognizes the concerns there too)... this certainly doesn’t mean the post isn’t out there, or that it isn’t true but I agree we should link it. Heck, then we can check in with em and gain more knowledge about things.

Didn’t want to see this. Etorque and the tech package are my biggest risks. The fact that one broke doesn’t concern me. That Ram can’t fix it cause of parts is the problem. It would suck for me but they shouldn’t build my truck until the people who already have a broken one are fixed. That goes for all parts. Take care of the existing customers first Just saw ford announced a hybrid for the 2020 f150. It’s standard on the ram v6. It’s coming. Like it or not. Guess I am going to be an early adopter.

I had the same issue.

I picked up my Limited on 9-13 and drove it ~60 miles before it quit working (Battery and Check Engine light). The dealer and Chrysler did everything they reasonably could and I just picked it up this morning. ~25 miles in so far so good lol. They were nice enough to let me drive my old truck around on dealer plates for ~ 2 weeks. Apparently the generator (etorque unit itself) was bad on mine.

A little concerned. Also concerned that the warranty doesn't cover a rental car while they are waiting for parts but only while they are actually working on it. I would have been without a vehicle for almost 2 weeks had the dealership not gone above and beyond.

I found the post again but it was on another forum.
