Real simple, do all that WHILE staying energy independent, as opposed to making this nation under GOD unsafe as we are now.
.
I did say that in my original reply, you just paraphrased it differently.

Elections have consequences. We as a country are all footing the bill for the peace of mind of a few, as long as they keep pushing their "green agenda" we are all going to keep paying the price. Killing the Keystone XL pipeline and strong arming drilling permits, while also increasing regulations and taxation to oil companies and refineries is burdening us all. If I was a widget mfg'r and I was selling widgets for $1 and my production cost was, .60 that's a pretty good ROI. Then the gov't comes in and tells me in order to make the same widget I now not only have to pay more for the material to produce my widget but I also have to alter my production facility to be more green. All the sudden my production cost is .95 per unit and people still expect me to sell it for the $1 it used to cost them is a silly idea. Hence diesel prices in Nov of 21' were less the $2.00 per gallon here in Texas. Currently prices are around $4.75, down from almost $5.50 a couple of months ago.

Original Post posed a question about storing diesel fuel. Some-one said that it seemed kinda impractical ( how many 5 gal cans can you stash in your garage kind of thing ).
But here's a question : what about getting say a 250 or 500 gal fuel tank set up somewhere on your property, assuming you have the space to do that, and then have a truck come fill it?
I guess a fuel pump would be handy too, unless you put it up on a stand and gravity feed it.
I'm thinking that diesel is OK to store for a long time, is that correct ? Assuming you're not in a super cold part of the country and worried about gelling etc, but isn't that taken care of with winter fuel blends ?
Of course prices are pretty high right now and we don't have a crystal ball. It would stink to buy 500 gal @ 5 bucks or more / gal only to see prices steadily drop for some unforeseen reason ( like a massive global recession ! )
Diesel cannot be stored indefinitely like the original post claimed you could. If you are going to store longer than 6 months to a year, you will need to add a treatment and stabilizer. These can take care of water, algae, slime, contaminates and stabilizers.

I have a large tank and pump that I have been storing diesel for many years. The closest Southern States coop delivers it in a truck whenever requested.

Diesel isn't well suited for long term storage unless under ideal conditions. Particularly with the use of the CP4 pump, I'd be leery using any fuel older than probably 6 months. Less if stored over 70F and/or not treated with a stabilizer.
I use this in all my generators. They only run for a 1/2 hour a week, so the 100 to 500 gallon tanks can last for years, unless we have a hurricane or major power outage.

You can set it up for gravity feed from a stand. I personally have a 12 volt pump with filter that I hook up the battery with long cables of whatever I am refueling, and that has worked great. The bottom of the filter has a water drain valve that you can drain and check for water also that is nice.

Also, do not use a plastic tank for long term storage. The sun will deteriorate it, and it will affect the diesel fuel.

The US hasn't truly been dependent on foreign oil since late 2016 for most things and everything since 2019. The oil we import is offsetting oil exports for different grades and niche markets.

Exports are going NUTS, much of the imports are for refinement and exporting.

U.S. Exports of Crude Oil (Thousand Barrels per Day)

Rectangle Slope Plot Line Font

The chart shows peak export in 2020 and large, precipitous decline immediately thereupon. Yes, there was a change in US leadership then...and a concomitant change in US policies.

Now, in 2022, what are the numbers? I went to the linked website, and was surprised at the lack of data covering the last several years. We're almost at January 2023 (3 years after that chart): yet, the raw data is not there, let alone any way to link to it.

I would posit that the "Exports are going NUTS..." statement is no longer valid. Perhaps "Exports WERE going nuts" would be more appropriate?

The current administration has made several statements that makes me think this shortage is purposeful and fundamental to their long-term goals.
1. Announcing a desire to ban all internal combustion engines
2. Announcing an end to coal
3. The fervent belief in anthropomorphic climate effects
4. A proven track record of destroying small businesses and benefitting large corporations

These are all internally consistent beliefs, goals, and policies. They fly in the face of facts...but that never stopped any previous religion. ;)

The cost of fuel will continue to rise, but it will be available. The higher the price, the more assured you will be of being able to find some, somewhere.

It will take a change in US federal policies to return to the low cost fuel we had in the 2016-2020 time period.

Edited to add: Here's a link to a post I made showing US energy production and use, a flowchart from Lawrence Livermore National Labs.

Look the sources of energy. Look at what happens if you eliminate coal (and natural gas) from electrical production. Next, look at how electrical NEEDS will skyrocket if you take petroleum away from transportation.

Facts are irrefutable.

For people who cant read, or understand charts, here they are colored. Also you wont get 2022 ( decade 2020, year-2 ) until 2022 ends, its an annualized chart.

How do you think the Biden Administration is doing with America’s energy resources?

I just noticed at Biden’s rally that he said No more oil drilling, do you agree with that?

Why so snide? I bolded, and reddened, your snide start. The chart you posted after that is nice. It shows 2021 and 2022...answering my question in my earlier post. Note: you did NOT provide this chart previously.

As far as keeping fuel on hand, how? What can we do, go out and purchase 5-gallon cans and get them filled, how many should we get? How long can this last? I don't think it is worth it.

You can buy used 55 gallon drums from Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. There are a ton in my area around $20 each. I believe you can attach pumps to the drums.
