My Dad is a retired firefighter and worked for a city that had a ton of fires including car fires. Said it takes about 2000 gallons for an average car fire. There are also reports that these cars have ignited again even after they used 36k gallons of water on them. You still can’t mail lithium batteries at the post office, who wants this in their garage

Yeah, Samsung did something, but there have been multiple iphones that have had battery issues, and Apple really hasnt done anything other than release new phones.

How would a firefighter get close enough to a burning car to attach a fire hose to the battery box? And not even sure submerging it is a good idea because the batteries will still keep burning. They are going to need to figure out some chemical firefighting material to stop the chain reaction. It will come in time. As long as people keep buying EVs, they are going to keep selling them. And the number of fires is fairly low percentage wise. It's just tht when it happens the media blows it up

If they are using a piercing nozzle then they aren't attaching a hose to a fitting in the battery box as was suggested in the comment i replied to

We have not seen any battery boxes with fittings for a hose. Fire Departments are having to play catch-up with EV's and trying to find an effective way to put them out without putting tons of water on them.

I know someone said before using a "Fire Blanket" to put it out. Just to clarify that those are best for regular car fires, not EV. You need to cool down the batteries as fast as possible to prevent an explosion. Putting out a car fire is 1 thing but keeping the batteries cool is the big concern with EV's.

I'll link 2 videos, this one is what a fire a fire blanket does (Suppress a fire, not extinguish it) and is just a "Tool" in the arsenal. For as much time as it takes to do everything they did, a trained department could put that out in as much time. Again, the issue is keeping the batteries cool. Blanket Video -

This is 1 way to keep things cool but isn't always feasible for small rural departments but again is like using a piercing nozzle to keep the batteries cool.

That's because a fitting on the battery box isn't anything that is being done, because it's not a viable option. it would be a huge liability thing for a firefighter to try and get that close to the car(would have to climb underneath) to attach the hose. Or would have to have some sort of a camera system and something similar to the piercing tool to line up the nozzle and get it attached to a fitting.
