I couldn’t pass up the crazy market…. I almost got what I paid for it and ordered a 22 longbed…. The short bed was killing me, too restrictive for my needs….Wait, what!? What are you in now??
Hey Amigo, how did you find out about this issue? I'm still waiting for an install of my 100XR and can bring this issue up with the place where I bought it. I appreciate the heads-up!Anyone that has a Leer topper, there is a possible problem with the wires that control the rear latches. I have a 100XL on a 2020 short bed.
The wires are steel cable wrapped in black plastic. The problem is the clamp will eventually wear out the plastic and allow it to slide off the end of the wire making the release stick permanently. And you have no way of getting in to fix it.
Take the wires out of the clamps and strip the black plastic off and you are good.
I was able to pull the released side of the topper open just enough to get a jury-rigged fishing rod and coathanger loop into the topper to grab the clamp and open the topper. Pics if anyone wants to see... In the first pic you can see the stripped wire and the grey locking mechanism and the white coat hangar opening device I fabbed up... The second the the repaired connection.

Update: I'm not happy with Leer! The front glass that is next to my cab has a sliding window and there are clips required to keep the window open and closed...2 clips. When my hard top was installed, there was not either clip in my window, so the window would just open and close (and rattle) when I took turns in my truck. I went back to the place that installed my topper, A&A Topper Sales and Truck Accessories, and they looked at my window and said that Leer messed up and they would have to order a whole new window with the required clips. Two weeks later it came in and I had to schedule an appointment the following week to have the glass window installed. Well, a week or two later, I had the sliding window open and when driving my truck it made a rattling noise and would close on turns. Apparently Leer had sent the Topper place a replacement window with the clip that keeps the window closed but not the other one that keeps the window open... terrible quality by Leer and A&A in my opinion. So I had to go back to the topper place and have them look at my window again and I'm waiting on a replacement window to come in so they can replace the one that they previously replaced my first one with. Here are some pics of my Leer topper that was installed last week. Apparently Leer did not put a small metal part in my front window that goes to the cab so they have to install a whole new window.
