Awesome Console Safe...

Nice Install. Just got done with my install in my Big Horn.

I only removed the cargo divider that flips up and down. I didn't even remove the rubber mat nor the side clips, because I test fit mine and my slider worked perfectly. I got the regular, dial lock version - so I'm assuming your fancy lock is just a little bit more proud and would require the mat cutting. Total install time was 10 minutes and that includes resetting the combination.

I really love this safe and Lock'er down customer service has been fantastic. It's a bummer that there are different clearances with the limited models, but that's the growing pains of a next gen vehicle. I'd argue lock'er down did a fantastic job of handling the issue thus far.

I wish I had seen this tip before fussing with those damn tabs. Tried to do it carefully, then finally just twisted them with pliers until they popped off. Glad I saw it before I cut my map though! Great tip! For anyone else doing this, I'd highly suggest going this route before breaking the taps and cutting your mat.
 
Question: Mine came with 2 longer screws and 2 shorter. Does it matter where they go? I haven't bolted mine down yet...

And, I sure liked how my Tacoma bolted into metal rather than taped into plastic....

Followup on the mat: leaving the mat caused mine to slightly/barely rub when I closed the tray. I trimmed the edges only off the mat for about the 2-3 inches where the front of the safe touches (just the lip, left the bottom untouched). Now there is no rubbing at all. The back part of the safe rests on the mat no problem.

The other good reason to leave the mat is it's a nice rubber padding inside the safe.

I just ordered one. Comparing it to my console vault in the last truck it appears this one does not bolt into the truck frame, just tapping screws into the console? Does that seem secure and like it would resist a crowbar reasonably well? Is there any concern to the bottom of the safe not being an all metal enclosed box? Looks nice just comparing it to a prior product which worked well.

I have the same concern. I'd sure rather it bolted into the frame. I still installed mine, but when I ordered I didn't realize this was the case. Hopefully it's a deterrent though...

It's design is one to keep honest people honest. If a would-be has a bar and the time and space to risk the commotion, they can break it out of the console. The new truck doesn't have convenient structure like the 4th Gen to get to - just look at the parts diagrams.

I'd say it's more about keeping you safe from somebody who is trying to make a quick heist. They may see the safe and give up... I hope. It'd be a lot better if somehow it could bolt to something solid.
 
Finally got it in today (the low profile version). A bit of a pain to install and the instructions were poor, but trimmed the bottom part so that it would still fit, did not have to remove any plastic tabs referenced, and put in the screws (also a pain for the rear) and it seems very solid in there. It fits a full size XDM and XDS in a holster and spare mags so that is good. Seems well made and secure (not quite as good as the console vault for the prior generation truck but I think that's because it was a full box and could be bolted down differently).

Looking at the top (just clears and you must remove the mat or it will catch ever so slightly)

Overall I would say its pretty good (8/10 with the instructions, and design deducting 2 stars). One other plus is the electronic lock though quite a pricey option seems really nice.

Whoa...you got the safe in without breaking the side tabs. Good to know that it can be done.
 
It was super easy (that part). It just slide in. Maybe because it's a low profile version on a limited?
 
Got mine installed on my 2019 1500 limited. Not impressed, low profile has very little room for anything other than a pocket pistol, 4 number locking mechanism very hard to work. I expected more for the price.

Safe needs to fit under the sliding console. The size is dictated by ram's design, not the safe.

I think the Limited model is even more low profile than the regular low profile model due to a deeper sliding tray in the Limited. I was leaning towards getting the 4 number lock since I don't want to have to replace batteries on my safe, but if it is hard to work, I might reconsider the electronic lock instead.

For what it's worth, they gave me free upgrade to the electronic lock and I love it.

I agree ... screws into plastic side doesn’t sound very secure, especially if there’s a firearm inside the safe.

I got a message from the owner addressing these concerns. This exxtreme version does make it a more secure, for sure. Although I'd prefer bolting to metal, the version I have does look pretty solid and I am comfortable putting firearm/valuables inside. Here was the feedback:

the exxtreme lid uses our standard 12 gauge standard lid that had a 10
gauge plate welded over the top of it. This plate covers the pry points
on the sides and front of the safe.
 
Wrestling with this on a Limited with the Extreme lid. While it does fit under the side tabs on the Limited, the extra plate on the lid is just a bit too big to allow the lid to close before hitting the side tabs.

Also, the front base of the safe where the screws go does not appear to fit flush with the contour of the cut out and the top on the back of the safe does not fit flush with the contour of the back of the storage console. Not sure if better tolerances on those would provide enough clearance for the lid to close without removing the side tabs.

Or am I doing something wrong?

I contacted them and they said I had to buy the lock and buy a new lid, very disappointing. How did you get a free upgrade to the electronic lock? I was offered nothing like that?????

Just pop the tabs out. They are no longer needed with the safe

I was the 1st gen5 customer so they sent me the prototype
