Air conditioning Hack

Had to be a TSB, but I haven't seen one stated.

Did they say exactly what they did or how they reprogrammed the blend doors?

They did not. My invoice just said “re-programmed blend door at customer’s request”.

Unlike turkeybird56, it made a huge difference in mine.

So, sorry if this has been covered, but anyone know about how many turns are needed to get the valve open enough for a little higher temps? Full blast cold is too cold when it's not so hot out.

I think that's going to be a personal preference set through trial and error. Too many variables (personal preference, weather conditions like temp/humidity/clouds/climate, etc.) play into that.

On my last truck it was a constant struggle to get it cold enough for me but warm enough for my wife.

So true don't here in GA, I tried going about 90% open because some nights when I get off work I could use some warm air either for defrost or just heat. Unfortunately the 90% valve open position made a noticeable difference in cold temps during the day. In my case I need it 100% open.

@RamCares just advised me via private message that Ram will be releasing something in Q4 of 2020 to address this issue. They should be announcing it shortly. Fingers crossed...
Did they say if it will be a technical service bulletin? I plan to buy an August build 2020 tomorrow.

Unfortunately he will learn a lesson. No good deed goes unpunished.
I sure hope Ram doesn't consider relaying requested information during a customer service interaction a good deed. That attitude would only serve to erode their recent successes. Nah, they couldn't be that clueless.

@RamCares are you maintaining a list of people waiting on this fix? If so, count me in.

I am going to be scheduling regular maintenance this week. Should I bother bringing it up to my service agent or should I wait until the fix is rolled out?

I would wait and see what the results of the TSB are, plus it's winter so it'll be hard to compare results to the dozens of people who have posted vent temps when it's 90F+ outside. If the AC cooling isn't really bothering you I'd wait until end of next Summer to look for performance of the TSB, complaints of rattles in the dash, scratches left by techs, etc.

I want a meat locker like the rest of you but to me this is worth waiting a while. My truck won't be the one the techs learn with lol

I'd love to wait until next summer but I've got 35,450 miles on the odometer so I've got one last chance for "free" repairs under my basic warranty.

I've got an appointment next week and I guesstimate that I'll be dropping it off with not much more than 100 miles left on the B2B.

Hopefully I can convince them to do the repair.

Much like any operation I want to know the risks before hand, how invasive is the procedure? I can deal with sub par AC or the hack if it means avoiding my dash being torn apart

If the inadequate temps are due to heater core design, then it should be easily reproduceable regardless of outside temps. I hope this is the fix we've been waiting for.
