Five years ago, I started this thread with the hope of adding parking sensors to my 2020 Laramie. This past weekend, I successfully installed the front and rear sensors following the detailed instructions from
@FM45. They are spot on and include everything you need for an easy install. I would add and/or change a few things to make things easier:
First off, buy a 1oz tube of Dielectric grease. Grease all connections that are NOT video connections.
1.) I used a different front harness because I have LED fogs.
2.) Remove the rear tailgate to access the middle harness connector sandwiched between plastic.
3.) Order extra pieces from Mouser and buy a micro pin crimper.
4.) Make the 36" harness 48" - the extra length was perfect, make the other two harnesses 18-24". I made mine 24", you can always shorten them.
5.) When installing the C2 pins into the connector under the driver's seat, pins 45, 46 get inserted 180 degrees different than pins 10-13. Also, after you remove the silicone plugs for these pins, cut off the smooth end, then drill a 1/16 hole through the middle to slide it onto your wire to seal the connection after insertion.
6.) Plug A is difficult to remove - slide a 1/4"x1/16" thick piece of metal with a 30 degree bend at one end, up into the back of the connector from the bottom and try to push the tab toward the engine. Then slide the connector DOWN.
7.) Pick any spot on the Can block behind the headlight switch.
8.) Instead of pinning C1 ground to plug B pin 10, crimp a 1/4" round terminal to the end and connect to the vehicle ground post under the park module in the left kick panel. Either method works fine though.
9.) You can pin C1 fused ignition power supply to plug B pin 3 if the female side has a pink wire with green stripe. (Mine did and it was the fused ignition)
10.) You do not need to remove the driver's seat.
11.) Buy a park module with the 3 connectors and wires attached with at least 2" of wire. I crimped my wires to them and put shrink tube over the connection. I also lucked out and found the correct module with connectors when I bought it.
When you are finished, this mod will look like it was factory installed.
Compared to kits being sold by infotainment, THIS is the way to go and is comparable in price, plus it looks and feels factory instead of running wires through firewalls or tapping into the accessory outlet.
Five years in the making, and thanks to the work by
@FM45, I now have factory front and rear parking sensors.
