The only hack here is the ridiculous software update the FCA did and doesnt work,

Just ordered the shutoff valve to do the “Ray Mod”
Get a short piece of 5/8 heater hose put on the end going to the water pump. That way you don't need to cut the Ram hose at all. Some needle nose vice grips to pinched off the heater hose, (very lightly) I could have spit more than the coolant that I lost. Make aure everything is tight and ran in the driveway for 20 min watching for leaks. The hose you need says "out" on it. If yours can't be read it's the top hose into the heater core that is always the inlet. 20190520_101139.jpg

I understand some are experiencing ac problems but those that are having problems are in the minority of overall ownership. When I was in for an oil change and tire rotation a couple of weeks ago I asked my service advisor, who's become friend over the years I've dealt with him, about ac issues being reported. He said rarely. And this is a pretty big dealership in central Florida. I keep mine on auto at 74° and only move it to 75° occasionally. Mine cools just fine.

I think there are many people that decided their AC cools fine. I would love to know what your definition of fine is.
In other words, what temperature are your vents blowing? Whatever that is still maybe fine to some, but sub-par to others. Being "cool" or "fine" is subjective.

I agree its subjective ,but a properly running ac system should have 34-40 degree coil ,and a 37-50 degree air coming out of the vents ,which fan speed, and distance of air delivery factors in . slower fan colder air ,and how long the vent run is

I don't bother to check temperatures coming out of the vents. I never have in 45 years of driving cars with air conditioning. I've driven longer but I didn't get cars and trucks with ac for my first few years of driving. If I can hop in something that has been sitting in Florida sun and be at a comfortable temperature within a few minutes I'm good. My Ram does this without me messing with the ac controls. I never use recirculate.

I bet if you had 60 degree temps from vents as best it will deliver, you would be with us. Some people don't require excessive cooling and others are a puddle easily. Us bigger boys with extra insulation need more cooling power. "I like Beer!"

I look outside and I sweat, and yet the wife sleeps with a comforter
in the summertime My temps were not terrible, but l knew they could be better. But again it's all subjective. Big picture

My truck has been at Dallas Dodge since yesterday morning at 8:30 a.m. regarding the AC issue. I got a call late afternoon informing me they were unable to even look at my truck. I had to cancel a trip I was going to take today and now am going into work later but have no means to ge there. I was provided no rental car and thus have no transportation. I was told they would get back to me by this morning with an update YET NOTHING. You purchase a $50,000 vehicle, THEY are responsible for a major issue with AC, yet they provide you with no transportation. I am beyond PISSED OFF........

I understand your feelings, but until they figure it out, this will make you a much happier camper. It doesn't require any cutting of hoses and is totally reversible. Let others fight dealer for now. If I find out they need to gut dash and maybe screw up something else or add rattles, or scratch interior parts up, break trim clips, etc I think I would embrace the $15 valve route.

I took mine in yesterday and I was told I didn't need the TSB work done and the A/C was working fine. My build date is between the dates on the TSB, but the service adviser told me my actual A/C unit itself was not part of the TSB. I had to do 2 recalls anyway so I brought up the A/C thing just to see if I needed it. My unit works OK, so I believe them. Goes to show that all vehicles made during the TSB time frame may not need it.

Sorry friend, if I had a dollar for every time a dealer told me a fix wasn't relevant or issue could not be replicated... I'd have about thirty bucks. Thats bad numbers.

Service advisors are your smiley "yes men", Shop foreman's are your basic "repair nazis" and Service Managers are the GM's bean counter. There's a serious flaw in the auto industry services these days and they prey on the customers that take the dealers word as gospel. Never take anyones word at a dealership as truth or fact.

Thank goodness for the internet and communities like this one that force them to be honest. I for one applaud anyone for coming forward with their stories of shady dealer tactics and smokescreen BS from FCA. There's a small chance that every single 5th gen Ram made to date has AC issues... just not everyone notices.

Well, picked up my truck today and I have to say (unless it's my imagination), it does seem to be blowing colder. Here is what they did verbatim:

Perform evacuate and recharge system on 123YF system to inspect for leaks or overcharged system. No leak was found..vacuum passed test. Charge system back to specs. No updates on HVAC module. Update PCM. Test drove and a/c was working to specs.

It was 91 in Dallas today and coming home at 6:30 I did not needs to turn it up as much as before. We shall see how this work out long term. At the moment, I am much more hopeful.

So you are saying you are sure that all 2019 Ram trucks built between the build dates given in the TSB are affected? Do you by any chance know specifically what the TSB requires the Dealer to do?

What incentive is there for a dealer not to properly repair my A/C unit? Save $50 of labor effort? They put out a TSB with dates of the affected vehicles. So FCA has already agreed it may be a problem worth checking at the dealer. Why would the dealer not be interested in repairing my truck, especially if all that is required is a software flash? The conspiracy theories about car dealers at all costs trying to screw you don't resonate with me. They have a long-term interest in satisfying customers.

If, somehow, they were disingenuous, they should have lied to me and said they did the TSB work to make me feel better. Telling me my A/C is fine and they did nothing is not something you'd do if you were trying to screw the customer. Screwing the customer only goes so far for so long when you have other options. Customer service is a very important part of the dealership experience, as evidenced by the nice waiting rooms I have seen at every dealer in 4 different states.

Hi Sbroussard69,

I am still taking VINs so thanks for sending it over. There is a TSB that describes what you're experiencing. The number is 24-001-19 and the symptom/condition states "The customer may comment that the A/C is inoperative, slow to cool, or not cold enough. Have you been to the dealer yet? Send me a direct message as I'd be glad to help with that process and escalate for further handling.
