Has anyone actually had a dealer suck theirs down and recharge? I wonder if they are over or under charged?

I had my dealer do this per TSB for the dye fluid in lines. After the evac and measure they found mine to be 6% below spec. Charged it back up and it’s been fine 99% of the time. By fine I mean noticeably colder. Only once or twice has the computer malfunctioned and given me a problem. One the next key cycle all was well again. Once they update the computer software I hope that most of the glitches get permanently resolved.

I just received a response from Andre Smirnov from TFLtrucks from an email I sent them asking if they had noticed poor AC performance on their Rebel long term truck, including info about the up to 8 degree warmer temps from drivers center vent. He says that they have not noticed this as it has not been very hot yet, but they would look into it in coming weeks.

This will get RAMs attention and if others look hard they will see it’s just sub par. My wife and got in a 2019 Santa Fe yesterday after it was sitting in the Alabama sun and the dash stated it was 98 degrees and was shocked how cold that A/C was compared to RAM. Also drove a new Honda Pilot and always good in Honda. Thanks for contacting them.

Not yet, I should go pick up the shut off valve. If I have it in hand maybe I'll get it done soon. I know the hot weather will come.Mid 40s in KC today,
Installed hot water shut off valve in heater hose going From water pump to heater core today. Driver side vent and passenger side vent blowing 36 to 38 degrees now. 20190519_172446.jpg 20190519_172518.jpg

Well there you go...

Ray, can this hold up in the long term or it might present issues?

Thanks a lot for your work!

You are the man!!!! Three cheers for KcRay!!!!!Nice job being first to test theory! So it is a blend door problem!!!!!!!!! Hello Ram.....are you watching us??????? We are supplying info to fix your problem. Do we get money for our solution????? We just saved $100.000 in engineer wages. If I was a heating/cooling engineer, I would be embarrassed. Kudos to the other engineers!!! Great truck! KcRay is our hero!!!!!

Can't see why there would be issues, I can and will adjust the valve myself, when I feel I need warmer air.

100% blend door problem. I'll play around with letting in a bit of hot water.

So it is ok to restrict hot water coolant to make AC colder as Ram can"t seem to resolve issue. Does it hurt to just restrict coolant flow to input of heater core without a side affect? No early heater core failures ? Too bad we have to resolve the issues of a highly paid engineering team.
I've been a truck driver since the 90s, every truck I have driven has a hot water shut-off valve. It is common practice to shut off the hot water in the summer months to get the ac colder.

KcRay is our hero!!! He tested theory that it is a blend door problem. FCA should send him a check for finding solution. A valve for less than $5 in hot water line. If I was a heating/cooling engineer I would be a little embarrassed right now. Kudos to the rest of engineers that did a great job!!! Too bad we have to manually shut off hot water supply to fix problem on a $60k truck that costs twice what average SUV's cost. .......And their AC works just fine......hmmmmmmmm???????

Opened the water valve 1/2 turn this am to let in some heat. Got 90* heat out the vents, and 44*ac temp out the drivers side. So yes you can do some blending of you own to get some personal comfort other than just having 36* blowing at you.

Hello Ray,

When opening 1/2 a turn did you start to get again different temps on driver and passenger side?

Thanks so much for your great contribution!

Also wondering if there is a return line from the heater core that the engine is expecting to receive to function properly.

So should I assume that this is the only fix??? I am taking mine in tomorrow for a supposed TSB update that they say will fix it. This is just ridiculous out of a $50,000 vehicle.

Did not try passenger side

There is a return hose, but not needed in this case, there is a separate bypass hose going from water pump to the engine block. This bypasses or parallels the heater core by design when, and as needed.

Good luck getting them to apply the update too. Many can't get the dealer to do the update even though the build date of their truck falls within dates listed on bulletin. I hope Ram is studying up and this thread. Beginning to think I need to dump ice down my pants on every summer drive. Makes for an interesting numbing ride too.

This is ridiculous, I agree. This is not a fix. This is a hack, but you should have seen the smile on my face when I got 36-38* blowing out my vents
