2025 Ram 1500 Current Owners - Discussion, Feedback, and Problems

Or maybe RAM updates are just like Fords. Even if the update applies to everyone and 10 people bought the exact same truck that was built in the same month and the same factory on the same day, they would get updates months apart from each other..
i thought update were regional. Different parts of the county at a time.

If anyone comes across ‘24 style tow mirrors, but designed to fit ‘25’s (power fold, heat, BLISS, puddle lamp) would you let me know please? I like the old style tow mirrors

From what others have said, and what the fine manual says.... the card must physically contact the door handle. And for starting, it also has to be in just the right spot. So for the card, I totally agree. Gimmick. Maybe it'd be nice to have in your wallet for some time when you forget your keys - it's a backup.
The phone as a key would be nice for those of us that are seldom without our phones. If you just need to have the phone in a pocket, then I think that would be nice.
I believe the digital key is used to set up your smartphone as your key - when it becomes available to set up in the ram app. Then it can be used as a backup key if you want it to keep in your wallet.

I think you can use the key card now, if you have it.
The first part of the Owner's Manual (around page 17) talks about how to pair and set up the phone, and it doesn't mention the key card.
In fact, I'm not sure if the key card is even mentioned in the manual.

The digital key card may seem useless at the moment (because if you have the fob in your pocket, then why would anyone want to physically pull out the card and use it).
But he’s explaining that once SPAAK becomes available and working, THAT’S when the key card becomes relevant, because it will now be your backup to the phone (since you won’t be carrying the fob around anymore).

Good find! Thank you. Agree that it's useful as a backup.

I understand what the manual is saying, but, if you’re going to forget your phone knowing it’s your key, you’re just as likely to forget your keys. I still don’t see it as that big of a deal.
If I don’t have phone as a key and therefore no CC backup and forget my fob, I can’t get into my truck anyway.

It’s not about forgetfulness, there’s no technology that can overcome that.
It’s about having technological backups to the different ways to access and start the vehicle.

I think the thought before about the key card was, “what use is this thing if you have to get it out of your wallet, hold it behind the door handle to unlock, put it in the charger to start the truck, when if you have the fob in your pocket you don’t have to fiddle with any of that”.

The key card CAN be a backup to the fob if the fob battery dies, or if you forget the fob, but its main purpose is to be a backup to the phone as key feature in case the phone dies, cellular service is bad in a particular area, or it just flat out isn’t working at the time. There has to be an emergency backup for that, and since you’re not going to carry the fob around with you when using your phone as a key, the key card is the backup.

not sure the old style will work on the 2025s with the new electrical architecture. pretty sure there is another post on this somewhere else here on the boards.

@Jimmy07 Just yesterday I went golfing, locked my keys in the truck using my app, and proceeded to play my round. When I finished the round, I was having service issues and it took me 5 minutes to get into my truck. If I would have had the key card in my wallet I wouldn't have had the issue I did to get into my truck. I After reading you post I promptly took the card out of the glove box and put it into my wallet for any future unexpected occasions.

I know with Apple, and probably with Android, signal strength will have nothing to do with using the phone as a key. Also, with Apple, phone as a key will work if your phone dies🤷🏻‍♂️

my credit card key opens and starts my truck.

Do all you guys who want this credit card key not carry house keys?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the need to do away with a keyfob that doesn't have to leave my pocket.
Honestly, I don't. I always go in through the big garage door. use the remotes or the HomeLink in the truck. Have a keypad next to the door. and I can open them from my phone.
I have a key hidden somewhere.... but never use it.

For years I haven’t carried a house key. The front door has an electric lock that uses my fingerprint to get in. The garage door is rarely locked but there’s a hidden key in my garage if I did need it.
My fob has a key for my bed cover and that’s it. All the other keys I rarely use are in my truck rarely getting touched.
I have no plans to use the keycard unless an emergency arises. Once the phone as a key feature is used, the fob will stay home and I’ll just use my phone or watch since those rarely leave my side (sad, I know). The less things I have to carry on me, the better. Technology is great!

agree on the watch. Mine is one version too old to be totally touch-less. I'd have to tap the handle... so it's a good reason to upgrade my watch! (if/when this feature is turned on)

My thoughts exactly.

Jimmy has more info than the dealers!
2025 has a totally diff. CanBus, wiring harness and security gateway.
I will update whenever the kit is available for install.

Belwo pic is from Jimmy.

Have a new 2025 Rebel and something is haywire with the mileage and miles to empty count. I found a light (padlock) show up on the drive train mode sitting on the transmission. Any idea what it means.
