I find mine to be the opposite, they became very bright. Probably because the stock 3.5s were 8ohm so that a big diff. I’m in the process of adding a sub (and amp) because while the sound is bright and crisp, I lost to much low end.

Does the "push-button tweeter attenuation" setting on the 6x9s change the brightness much?

On the HK system if you're running if the stock amp, not at all because they're crossed over with the 3.5s. Nothing above 1500ish is going through them.

Good question. I couldn’t tell any difference. It’s supposed to change it 3db which seems like quite a bit but I couldn’t tell. Then again it wasn’t an ideal test, toggling it with the door panel off and without all speakers installed. Ideally I should have installed all four 6x9s and then toggled them all on and then all off but I couldn’t do that. The speakers were installed one at a time because of time constraints. So I made them all +3db because more is always better right
I tried reading up on it but couldn’t find mention of the option anywhere, including infinity’s own site. Maybe it’s more of a marketing thing.
Plus honestly I am getting most of my brightness from the dash 3.5’s and the 6x9s just aren’t filling in enough to compensate.

I’m adding 3 amps to my set up. They arrive today. I doubt that will even put a strain on the system. I do have a xs d4800 battery that will replace the stock and ill do the big 3 upgrade as well. I’ll start a build log when everything behinds.
what amps are you running? im a big audio guy so im curious.

I’ll be runnin 3 Mmats hifi Amps. Just sold off my 3 Mosconi Zero and 2 zapco lx amps. Going to try out class d with some new focal utopia m 3 ways with a utopia m center channel and Flax coax in the rear.

Did a little work yesterday on the set up

sweet. those focals are sick. i did a few spl set ups with the mmats 4ks. decent amps, they made good power. the class d full range is different sounding. i would suggest a dsp or a very good analog eq to tame down the frequency response of the class d full range amps. xs power batts are where its at. scotty johnson is old spl competitor buddy of mine (he owns xspower). did you run the power cable under the truck? mine does not have the etorque so i just ran my power cable under the truck and came up through the plastic grommet for the etorque wiring.

Yes I’ll be running a helix ultra dsp once it’s released. For now I’ll run a helix dsp.3 and just not run rears until the ultra comes out

Do you plan on doing any sound deadening for this project? I would think with all the money invested in just the Focals alone you'd want the cab like a bank vault.

Thanks. I lost a bit of volume going to Infinity Reference from stock. Was surprised and was wondering if that was the reason. Not a big deal but it is noticable.

That is why I went with the Hertz 3.5’s. Way more efficient then any 3.5 on the market.

Out off curiosity, has anyone completely replaced the HK system but kept all 11(dash, doors, and rear Headliner) factory locations?

I've replaced all the speakers and am just curious if anyone has taken it one step further and amplified those locations with aftermarket amps.

If so, what is your set up, and how did you handle the center channel?

Hey gurus... Looking for some advice or input.

I'm running a 10" JL 10TW1-2ohm and Infinity reference speakers. I just swapped amps to a pioneer 8601 (500w @ 2ohms) and during set up I noticed my overall system struggling to reproduce bass as the subwoofer volume increased. I'm sure this is a result of cab pressure and 6x9s and sub fighting each other. So I reversed the polarity on the sub and sure enough, it cleared that up and overall created a much fuller bass response.

Yesterday, I was listening to a track and there was a note around 25-35 hz that caused an ugly sound from the 6x9s. Almost like they were getting beyond their excursion limits. This got me to thinking that maybe the combination of the sub and 6x9s working in opposite phase pushed them too far and they started to resonate or just reach their limit.

I'm almost wondering if I should install bass blockers on the 6x9s at around 80 hz and allow the sub to handle it. I'm considering adding a second sub anyway since the amp can do 800 watts at 1 ohm. (400w x 2).

Any thoughts or input on bass blockers for 6x9s? I've never done it or had to do it because in prior installs I could adjust the crossover points, bit since I'm running the speakers off of the factory amp, this isn't possible.

Am I off in my logic here and possibly what I was hearing?

Thanks.

How do you have it wired exactly (physically)? You’re using the stock amp and the pioneer is just for the sub? How are you passing inputs to the pioneer?

The 6x9s are running off of the factory (HK) amp and are in phase from what I tested.

I'm sending the signal to the Sub amp via PAC Amppro. The pioneer amp is powering the sub only and I reversed the polarity on the sub (amp does not have phase switch) to clear up the issue with the 6x9s and sub fighting each other. I have PAC Amppro set to defeat the factory EQ so that my HU EQ controls the bass response of only the 6x9s instead of the sub signal.

I wonder if something is going on with the amppro and if they would be of help. Why would you have to reverse phase on the sub if you wired everything in phase? I would think that means something funky is going on in the HK amp, flipping phase or the amppro. Also wonder if this is happening during some type of roll off of a frequency. I don’t remember, do you have your anc disabled? If not that could be adding to things.
If you’ve already replaced your speakers and have a sub/amp, maybe just complete the picture and replace that hk amp?

I have my ANC disabled.

So my thought is this on things. The stock EQ really pushes bass to the 6x9s. More so than a lot of systems. It takes quite a bit of volume for the sub to start becoming noticable over the 6x9s. This is good and bad. With the infinity reference 6x9s in replacement of the factory, the bass response without a sub is really quite good. It's not as hard or low hitting, but it's not bad.

With the doors closed and introducing additional sub volume with the 6x9s and sub all being in phase, you reach a point where the pressures created by the speakers actually begin to work against each other. This would explain why as I increased the volume of the sub, it actually would at higher level begin to reduce the overall volume. As the speaker cones pushed out, they increased the can pressure, and fought against each other.

Think of two people blowing into a pop bottle from opposite ends. They both blow into the bottle, the pressure increases and it's hard move any air. Now have one suck out and they other in and they now work with each other.

That's why I tried to flip the phase on the sub. Sure enough... Now the bass volume continued to increase as I increased the sub volume rather than fading off.

I don't think there is anything wrong actually. Just wondering if my 6x9s are reaching their limits and the overlapping frequencies of the sub and 6x9s below 80hz is problematic. If I crossover the 6x9s (bass blocker) and just allow the sub(s) to handle it (ultimately'in phase'), I may be to overcome that.

Or the other thought is that my 6x9s are actually wired out of phase and the two were cancelling each other.

I thought about replacing the factory amp but that's 11chs I have to feed. That's a lot of extra cost, working, and hassle not to mention dealing with a center channel signal.
