Since i’ts been confirmed that 2022 Ram 1500 will support Uconnect 5, do you think that 2019 Ram 1500 owners will be able to update their system to Uconnect 5. If not, do you think we will be able to replace our current infotainment aiment system with the new Uconnect 5 version?

Info: I currently own a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited.

To be fair…. You responded to him instead of answering my question…. Which strengthens his argument lol
no I responded to the person that I intended to, but it wasn’t a “get out of this thread if you aren’t pro upgrade“ lol, more just a poke.

To answer your question, did you read the thread? There is plenty of info to show the negatives and positives of the upgrade.

To be fair, the only advantage is that you will be getting upgrades to the software. Unless there is a major fix needed, they will not be doing much with Uconnect 4. And with UC 6 coming out very soon, you won't be seeing more updates on this either. There isn't any real functional advantages to the upgrade. No AA full screen, no extra speed, a little bit better graphics. For the cost, there is nothing that justifies it except to have the latest and "greatest". I'd suggest looking at other factory upgrades that'd better better and more functional. Just my opinion.

so your basis is on android auto. For Apple users there is full screen plus wireless carplay. The software is a lot more customizable. I know there were and still are a lot of issues(but those could be due to people not being pushed the latest update). I am running latest update and I am not having any issues besides little quirks that go away.

I was using the upgrade as a stepping stone for another upgrade but I am happy with it all so far. Some might think it is a negative but for me the fact that ram now has no connectivity to my truck and can’t track my driving habits or locations is a plus also.

Well, AA is a big thing for many people. But that wasn't my only reason. It would be hard for anyone to give any pros on why it would be worth it. I've not seen a single one. That's why I went with the Phoenix HU since it was a significant upgrade over UC 12". An still better and more capable than UC5. And no, I've not had any major issues with it. No more than anyone with UC4 or 5 has.

I had planned on upgrading to UC5 just because I like adding factory upgrades to my truck, like ACC, SurroundView Cameras, Digital Rear-view mirror, etc. But as I said, not a single pro.

ok I really wasn’t here to argue with anyone. My first comment was tongue and cheek.

To say there are no advantages to UC5 over UC4 is just not right, but I get that is your opinion. Wireless carplay and wireless AA is a big advantage in my opinion. For Iphone users full screen Carplay is another advantage in my opinion, not to overlook The added customization as an advantage. Can an aftermarket solution be better of course, but doesn’t neglect the upgrades of an oem system.

In my case upgrading to a 2023 UC5 radio was needed to be able to have the full functionality of the digital cluster but that is a different discussion.

You had mentioned something about UC6….do you really think they are coming out with that already? Not saying you are wrong ……more completely curious.

Not arguing, discussing. That's why I said originally that it was just my opinion.

Yes, UC6 is coming according to several insiders on here. Now, they could be completely wrong, but the Ramcharger definitely has something completely different than UC5.

wow, that would be the fastest turn around on uconnect software. On the flip side I could see the ramcharger having something different since it is a completely different truck being fully electric driven.

What is the advantage to upgrade my 2020 Ram 12.1" to the modern version?
After upgrading from an 8.4" UC4 non-nav, to a 12.1" UC5 nav, I noticed the following:

Pros:
  • Wired Apple Carplay is much more responsive - So this may only apply to certain people but, I'm a huge track forward type. I'm always skipping tracks if what comes up is something I'm not in the mood to listen to. On my UC4 system, after about 30 minutes connected, track forward was horribly delayed - So much so that I could skip forward two tracks on the display before the audio would catch up. The UC5 software handles someone like me much better. Push the track forward on the steering wheel, and it instantly changes, every time. No matter how long I'm connected. That was a big deal to me.
  • Full screen Carplay is awesome! - Love the fact that I can have what used to be my full size apple maps, plus music and calendar showing on the main screen.
  • Screen clarity and overall graphic interface - UC5 seems much more polished and "modern" than the UC4 system. This is purely cosmetic though. Figured it was worth a mention.
Cons:
  • Sound quality - Not sure why this would be different, but it seems like my UC4 audio was a lot better than the UC5 I installed. Example - my UC4 system had a loudness setting that you could turn on and off. Off gave a more flat audio curve, which was great for tuning when running amplifiers. With loudness turned on, bass and treble were dramatically increased at lower volumes, but flattened out at higher ones. I always ran with loudness off. The UC5 engineers seemed to have decided that they know what's best, and loudness is constantly on. This is horrible for amp tuning, especially if you're running a sub. Not quite sure why they decided to take a step backwards with a newer system. Really miss the loudness off button.
  • Display screen is super touchy - Mostly when hitting the app buttons across the bottom of the screen. Not sure if it's because I'm using a screen protector, but 50% of the time when I press a lower button (trying to go to climate or home), the system thinks I'm trying to move the icon, and I get a huge warning saying something to the affect of "You can't do that while driving...". Super annoying to have to hit OK to that message just to try to do what you wanted to do again.
  • Lack of hard buttons for some HVAC features - Really miss my seat and wheel heat hard buttons. Was so much easier in the past to just tap a few buttons to turn them on. Also missing the system off button. Really sucks to have to navigate to the climate page just to turn the system off.

Overall, I'm glad I did the upgrade for the screen real estate, and Carplay functionality. Sound quality issue is still giving me fits, but I'm almost at a point where I'm satisfied with the outcome.

I don't remember a loudness button for UC4 on the 12" screen(hopefully somebody can confirm). Maybe that was something only on the 8.4 screen?

One thing I haven’t seen anyone really talk about in a lot of places is the telematics module and without it you lose all of the connected features. Most people do not tell you this till after you pay for everything.

So my question in here now is I have gotten a brand new telematics module but not the harness plug that controls it and or how to get it to work.

I have a late 21 and after checking can access the settings for the telematics to work but when checking around and even places like infotainment

If you don’t specify will the connected car work they sell you everything and this is the one thing you don’t get and until you ask then they will say yeah we haven’t figured that out.

So has anyone?

@Jimmy07 sells the harnesses for the UC5 upgrade. One thing to take not on is he doesn't supply the harness for HVAC controls to keep down on price. You can either buy a separate one from ebay or just remove the keyway on your existing plug and it will work fine.
Do u have link for hvac harness on ebay
Also I did the conversion b4 what settings need to be changed in alpha once I get the harness also this is a cab and chasiss 5500 do u know how I van add factory back up camera to work to the screen
