I intentionally sought out a truck with 3.21s and bought it because that's what I wanted. I've had a 3.92 truck and didn't care for it nd noticed no difference in performance. I also rented a Gen 5 3.92 truck and notice no difference in performance versus a 3.21 truck.

I might tow three or four times a year and maybe 6,000 pounds Max when I'm doing it so towing is not an issue and the few times I have towed, I had no issues. I'm driving about 20,000 miles a year so I'm enjoying the 3.21s.

As for those call in a 3.21 truck sluggish or slow compared to a 3.92 truck, that's laughable. Both trucks are slow, have a 620whp z06, everything is slow compared to that so 3.21 versus 3.92 makes zero difference.

Mileage over 5500 mi and current mileage both predominantly City, 70/30 or better C

I agree they both feel the same! And that’s right there both slow compared to srt hellcats or AMG or vettes but for a truck they are quick I remember when most gas trucks came with only 200-260hp I don’t consider 400hp slow for a half ton pick up truck

I guess it relative to the individual. The trucks you described are worse than slow. The current ram 5.7 performs decently and is adequate but by no means quick, fast or anything else but again, it's all relative.

I remember when people bought a truck because it’s a truck and if you want to go fast buy a car. I bought a truck because I wanted a truck and it does what I need it to do
Some like a truck that does both. Yep. It really is possible.

I guess some people just prefer 3.21 gears like these ladies. I mean, might as well buy a Ford.

Man, by the time I need gas, I have already made stops for snacks, sightseeing, a gun store. Distance to empty never really crosses my mind (unless you are talking about coffee cups or rocks glass) I live about 5 miles from a gas station and usually get distracted by something before I get there. 👀

The gas argument doesn't really work out. Lugging an engine more doesn't save fuel. Gearing is your friend. The only time the 3.21 gear is going to save gas is when you're on the interstate in Kansas with the cruise control set to 80 MPH.

Weight also comes into play. My Challenger and my Ram have virtually identical engines. The Challenger is a 5-speed auto with 3.06 gears officially rated 23 horsepower less than the Ram. The Ram is an 8-speed with 3.21 gears. But the Challenger will absolutely trounce the Ram from a dig, from a roll, at any speed. Not even close. So I think a truck with 5,600 lb. curb weight really needs more gearing advantage whether you're racing or towing, don't fear the gear.

No amount of gearing is going to overcome that almost 2000lb disadvantage

You say that but I'm regularly in the 18's mpg in the city and theres a lot of threads with 3.92 guys complaining that they are in the 14-15's in the city and 17-18 on the highway. Yeah theres some guys saying their 3.92 truck gets 20 on the highway but they leave out the fact that they are driving 57-60 mph to do that

3.21s net a little more fuel mileage and a little less towing capacity. No big deal.

And the fact of the matter, if towing meant that much to me, Id have bought the 3.92 or a 2500. The towing loss is inconsequential to me as the heaviest thing I tow is a 3000 lb car on a 2000 lb trailer and thats twice a year if that
