What did you do to your Ram today???

Almost midnight and finally finished the sound deadening and got the truck put back together. Can't wait till my morning drive to test it out. Layer of Noico 80 mil butyl, and two layers of noico 157 mil closed cell foam.

Also new back window seems like a much beefier design and the window that opens is super quiet.

Clean with iso alcohol, stick it on, press it with a roller. For the 1st layer, the butyl, if it's cold out you'll need a heat gun to really mold it.

They supposedly fixed it towards end of 2020 run, and window replacements are using the new updated window.

Do you know roughly when or if there’s a way to differentiate the updated windows? Mine’s a May 2020 build which is sort of towards the end of 2020 run.

Bottom right corner... My old part number ended in AC, the new one ends in AE. Also the plastic frame seems more substantial (thicker).

I planned on doing roughly the same thing and adding some MLV too. Have you noticed a significance difference? I wanted to do the entire truck but I’m not looking forward to all that work!

I'd say so. I'd do it again for sure.

There's not a lot of flat panels back there, they are all pretty ridgid. So the full coverage with the butyl was probably overkill. I do plan to get a mild exhaust, so I am leaning forward to mitigate drone, which is caused by vibration. The butyl should help with that.

The two layers of foam (one on the wall, one on the removable panel) probably made the biggest impact. I've also done all four doors. Truck is definitely quieter. I think some thick MLV glued to the removable panel would probably do just about the same. I say glued to the panel vs the wall so you can cover the vents vs going around them. That's where all the road noise is coming in. I have an extra layer of foam over those.

As far as the work, yeah, it's not fun. But... I already had the doors apart to install speakers/Katzkin inserts and the seats out to have my window replaced, so it just made sense to do it all. I've done just about every vehicle I've owned, so I've got the process down and it goes pretty quick.

After I'm confident I've got the floor board leak fix, I'll do the rest of the truck. I'll have the console out soon for a ambient light install anyway, so again it makes sense to only pull it once.

That was wordy, sorry, but bottom line, yes, do it! Especially if you're adding a sub and removing ANC.

I cleaned the interior, again! I do this every time it gets the slightest dirt on the floor or dust on the dash. Always have done this and always will.

I then washed, clayed, compounded and polished. Tomorrow, I'll wipe down with the IPA solution and start applying my ceramic coating. I've had the stuff for months, but haven't taken the time to prep. I'm there now!!!

Picked up the truck from the shop. Got the 4inch bds air ride on, wheels, 35x12.5 nitto ridge grapplers, rotors, installed. Very very happy with the way the truck turned out. Haven’t stopped driving it since picking it up!

It was a great weekend. Headed a few hundred miles to my buddy’s house to do some motorcycle work and took the long way home today through Lake Placid. Took some photos on the roughly 7 hour journey home.

If the defroster is on it will literally push the front doors out to where they don’t fully seal and it sounds like your window is rolled down haha. Did it make it quieter? Yes a little bit. Is it worth the downsides? Nope lol. I had a buddy do it to his older Chevy and it was perfectly fine, but I guess these new rams are so airtight that those vents are the only escape for the air. I’m sure it’ll be a P.I.T.A removing the butyl but hopefully it’s possible.

The heat won’t make it even stickier you don’t think? I was debating trying to do it cold or with heat. I might try leaving one covered and open the other one too, idk. That's a lot of work for a maybe . I know closing those vents makes the a/c have to work harder which on this truck is bad enough already.

Heat should loosen the adhesive, but once you can lift a corner, you should be able to pull it off. It's not that hard (that's what she said).

If this hasn't been said yet, did you cover the air pressure vents back there(black vents in Cab wall) with anything like a filter or anything at all, if not that sound is still going to be bad as there is nothing to stop it from the outside coming into the cab. Just need maybe some pilyfill over it or something that is breathable but wit still block some soundwaves from entering from back there

Read the last couple posts. Directly covering those is a bad idea. I put a couple layers of foam on the back panel over the vents. Blocks some sound but let's it breathe.

You can try some 3m accoustimass, or some open cell foam, but I wouldn't seal them completely.
