You DON'T void the warranty if you keep receipts and mileage you changed it. Mopar, yes Mopar it self sells a conversion kit that swithches the 2020 oil filter and cover to just repacing the filter. The Mopar part number is
Mopar (68490111AA) a place in Massachussetts sells it for $54 with filter. Now you don't have to buy the whole housing. I have a 2020 eco and will be replacing the filter. I also bought a Fumoto oil drain plug so I don't have to pull the plug every time. Had one in my 2016 eco and it was SOoo easy!
Have you installed this yet?

I searched that part number at Rockauto.com, they ship to Canada, that’s where I bought my oil and fuel filters, the part number #6849000AA is described as an oil filter adapter for $227.79, I’ll keep buying the filters for around $60 bucks for now. The dealer price was originally $140 and now $93, it’s $30 cheaper online.

I was running all over the internet trying to find the best deals on Penzoil and Amazon suggested their Amazon Basics 5w-40 Euro blend. Would you dare run it?? Not that I can find the data sheets, so it may or may not meet specs.

Nope, I do not see where that says it meets the MS-12991/API SN spec may have warranty issues. What are you really going to save? Just my $.02.

Contact Amazon to see what specs it meets.

Yes, in fact I do have a case of this in my garage right now. It certainly meets spec, the bottles show API SN rating and that it's a 5W40 full synthetic, and those are the only *requirements* in the manual. It also is manufactured by Warren who has been making top notch motor oils for nearly a century. Additionally, Project Farm has tested Warren oils under the SuperTech and Amazon Basics branding and has found them to outperform many of the "name brand" oils that cost twice as much.

Penzoil with the "recommended" MS-12991 spec is going to cost about $20 more for an oil change. Depending on the year of your truck, the manual might not have even been updated to the new spec, if that's the case hold onto that manual. I personally will meet that spec until my truck is out of warranty. That will be 18 oil changes every 6-7K, or less than $400 to get to 125K miles. I am sure that is a quality oil, there are lots of them out there. It's your truck your decision, I think you have 2 well thought out opposing views. WXmann is very active and knowledgeable on this forum, I have read several of his posts, I am just going to disagree here.
PS. you know that oil brand is the "third rail" of forum discussions right?

That's still $100 per change and you don't know what materials they're really using. For $100 I can do it myself at home and have peace of mind that the correct materials were used and the process was done correctly.

Now, if they offered 4 oil changes for $200 or less, and there was no fine print at the bottom that says "EcoDiesel excluded" like is usually the case, then I'd consider it.
No you got to put in Vin they know it's a ecodiesel. It's dealer parts so if it fails its on mopar.

I am sure many of you have already changed your oil in your new gen ecodiesel but I thought I would fill you in on my experience.

I have 2,500 miles on the engine and I wanted to get that old oil out and fresh fluids. I decided to go to dealer the first oil change simply because I heard about how hard the filters are to get off on the hemi's and did not want to mess around with it myself OR take to an independent quick change (I never trust them anyhow).

FYI, I purchased at Koon's so my local dealer is not my purchasing dealer

I called ahead to make sure the dealer had the filter and they did so I went to the express oil change lane. All started out well but after about 15 min the service advisor came to me and said they don't currently have the specific oil required and continued on saying that they had not done any oil changes on the new gen ecodiesels. I asked if the oil was the same as the previous gen and they said no. They gave me 2 options with the first being that they would order the oil and have it there the next day OR they would go down to the local autoparts store and pick up so I said that I would wait since they would send someone immediately.

They got the oil and everything from that point went well. I asked specifically what oil the put in and they said Pennzoil 5w40 full synthetic EURO which if it would have stopped there they had in stock from previous gen trucks but he said the NEW oil spec is required and the previous Pennsoil did not have is MS-12291.

After some googling, i found some information on this new spec on Fiat's forums but I don't know much about it BUT I do appreciate them wanting to put in the proper oil
Did first oil change at 7,200 miles. Used Liqui Moly, the only specified oil I could find locally. $41 per 5 liters.x 2. $48 for filter Dieselfiltersonline. Free labor cost me 2 hrs including shopping oil change and disposal. Glad I did it myself because the dealer wanted $250 and would have used the wrong spec.

It’s sad but true that both dealers in my area said they use Rotella T6 for the Gen 3 eco diesel. They also couldn’t say if the Mopar oil part number on their computer was synthetic or not.
