Nope, that's the FCA list price on the filter.

It's not a FCA warranty. It's a dealership-specific warranty. They use it as a sales gimmick. "Come to us for your service and we'll warranty the powertrain forever!"
That's ridiculous and good to know. I can't believe how much more expensive the Ecodiesel is to maintain versus the Cummins.

Edit: Found this link, not sure if it is the correct part number: https://www.dieselfiltersonline.com...m-1500-jeep-wrangler-jl-with-3-0l-diesel.html

Yeah I guess it's all about supply and demand. The Cummins is a high-volume seller and it's made in USA. The EcoDiesel is a low-volume seller and it's made in Italy. So, parts and maintenance will always be cheaper for the Cummins.

But, I decided not to go Cummins because from all the real-world info I was getting from owners, there appeared to be a roughly 8 MPG spread between the two, and at that level of fuel savings the EcoDiesel is still less expensive to operate than the Cummins.

True and 2500 vs 1500. The Cummins won't come close to the EcoD gas mileage. Plus you're paying a lot of money for the Cummins.

I still think the dealer price is BS.

So doing your own oil change/ maintenance voids lifetime warranty? Where did you see that information?

2020 Laramie Ecodiesel, Crew cab, 4x4, Level 2, Night Edition
You DON'T void the warranty if you keep receipts and mileage you changed it. Mopar, yes Mopar it self sells a conversion kit that swithches the 2020 oil filter and cover to just repacing the filter. The Mopar part number is
Mopar (68490111AA) a place in Massachussetts sells it for $54 with filter. Now you don't have to buy the whole housing. I have a 2020 eco and will be replacing the filter. I also bought a Fumoto oil drain plug so I don't have to pull the plug every time. Had one in my 2016 eco and it was SOoo easy!

how about quality ??? is it reliable ???
It's a genuine mopar part. the UFI filters are the same as mopar filters. ufi makes mopars filters. oem mopar filters are stamped ufi and look exactly the same in every way.

I just called my dealership and they quoted me $250 to do an oil change. Said the oil was over $100 but wouldn't say what oil that was. Said the filter lists for $92. Plus labor and taxes. OUCH.

So, do I let the dealership rape me without lube twice a year so I can maintain the lifetime powertrain warranty they supply with all new truck sales, OR, do I save a ton of cash and do all my service myself and forfeit the lifetime warranty?

Decisions decisions...... hmm........
You can buy 4 oil changes for $400 from Mopar online prepaid oil changes.

That's still $100 per change and you don't know what materials they're really using. For $100 I can do it myself at home and have peace of mind that the correct materials were used and the process was done correctly.

Now, if they offered 4 oil changes for $200 or less, and there was no fine print at the bottom that says "EcoDiesel excluded" like is usually the case, then I'd consider it.

Exactly. Plus I can do it at home and it only takes me 30min tops. Versus either having to drop it off at the dealer or wait a couple hours for it. It really is easy to change the oil on these because the filter is so easily accessible

Firs oil change today, was down to 5% oil life and got a “change oil soon” display. My Rebel diesel has 15,050 km.
I had bought an 18.9L pail of 5w40 on sale, bought the OEM oil filter online from Rockauto.com and bought a 10L container with spout from Amazon.
Filled the container with 8L of oil and gave the oil and filter to the dealer for them to do the service.
Oil $58.83 tax included (8L)
Filter $65.50 tax and shipping included
Labour $30.17
Total including taxes $154.50
If I had not brought the oil and filter, the dealer service would have been $243, so I saved close to $90 bucks.
Just to compare, I had a small 2017 Hyundai Accent 1.6L hatchback, it required oil changes every 5,000km for $80 (regular oil) at the dealership, so for 15,000km would cost $240, I do realize if I brought the oil at the dealer I would have saved some money, but if I was to put synthetic oil it would have been more expensive.

In the end my Rebel Diesel is efficient on fuel, oil and DEF. I very happy with it.

I also picked up my new 14 1/2’ foot travel trailer today, it will be used for cross Canada/USA trips after my retirement, January 2022. 03E12FA2-3FC6-495E-8029-42CCA60FF22A.jpeg

Thanks for the info. It is definitely cheaper for you, but for me being in Canada, I would have to add 30% to that price for the money exchange, plus shipping and possible duty fees at the border.
I had ordered 2 oil filters and 2 fuel filters from Rockauto.com to save on shipping.

Which oil did you use? Pennzoil platinum euro is the most widely available ms-12991 spec oil available.

Shell rotella unfortunately does not meet with ms-12991 or API-SN oil specs required on the new eco diesel motors.

Partsource currently has the pennzoil ultra euro oil on sale, combined with the $22 shell visa rebate and $10 off email signup bonus you can get 10 litres for like $33.

I did mention to the service department about the oil specification requirement stated in the owners manual, but they insisted that they only use the Shell Rotella T6 for all Diesel engines, light and heavy duty.
I am going by their suggestion, so if the engine would fail, they would be responsible for mine and all the other light duty diesel they have serviced.

I did some research about oil specifications and the weird thing is that the API SN from oil manufacturers is for gasoline engines and not diesels.
I am confident with using one of the best diesel oil because of the specific mention of being safe for emissions system using DEF and being capable of handling diesel dilution in the oil.
I am wondering if Pennzoil is sponsoring FCA, there were posters all over the place at the service department, “run your Hemi with Pennzoil Synthetic...”
I did buy Pennzoil synthetic oil with the specific requirements for my Jeep 2L Turbo. It was on sale at Canadian Tire, 60% off, 5L jugs.
The
Shell Rotella T6 goes on sale 15% off at Canadian Tire and Parts Source, so I bought a 18.9L pail for $132 and got a website coupon of $10 offso I paid $122 plus tax.

Thank you very much for your concern, I can’t say that I haven’t been told, many times.

I know this will not be the end of this tread.

Shell rotella is the best diesel oil out there and I would love to run it myself, but if my owners manual says API-SN and ms-12991 that’s what I’ve gotta run. The dealer isn’t the one approving engine replacements so it’ll be up to them to cover any damages that occur because of incorrect oil used.

@RamCares what is your opinion on this? Why are so many dealers using and recommending an incorrect oil?

I was an early adopter of the eco diesel and one of the first to notify FCA about the misprinted manuals and mistrained dealer techs. After having engineering review the issue it was determined that the shell rotella does not meet the new requirements of the gen 3 eco diesel. Subsequent owners manuals were update to reflect this change, but dealers were never notified from what I’ve seen.
