Hey, guys, I’m new, but ready for a new Laramie. Just got off the phone with manager of my nearest dealership. They were able to build my truck online the way I wanted, however, he said he wouldn’t order the truck unless it had the anti spin differential rear axle, adding an additional $500. He explained to me why, but I feel like he’s just trying to make extra money. What do you guys think? I’m in LA, btw. Thanks.
You dont necessarily need the anti spin differential but it is nice to have to help with traction when the power wheel spins and you are in 2wd. I hear eventually the clutch that activates it will wear out. Too hard to explain everything about the pros and cons. I would have probably gotten it but I opted for the elocker instead. There are many posts on anti spin vs locker vs open differential. Look it up a little bit and decide if the $500 is worth it. Only you can really decide since it is your money. People roll around with open diffs in there work trucks all the time and you always can put it in 4wd if the conditions are slick but a still nice to have.

What Rebate incentives did you get that added up to $5,500?
$1,000 bonus cash + $2,500 bonus cash + $1,000 USAA (Dad signed up and then I was able to sign up and got the code) + $1,000 Truck Conquest (also own a 2003 F150).

Guys watch out for the fake add on fees. (vin sketching etc) these are basically scams so that they can advertise the price of the truck lower then add it back at the end. I went to most dealerships in Houston and no one would wave them. That is until 7pm Monday night the last day of truck month. They called and told me that if i'd buy that night they would wave them. I havn't seen anyone in this thread mention these fees and some of the dealerships were charging 3000 worth.

Good point, my dealer tried to sneak in fees for windshield protection and some other BS protective coating. Had to call them out and tell them they needed to be removed.

Thanks for the info. Will definitely consider adding it.

I will be making my first visit to the dealer today to talk numbers.
Based on what I built, the price is a bit over 50k on a Laramie. What the best offer I can get in Los Angeles??

Glad to hear you held out until they cracked. You can always order one from a dealer outside of Houston that doesn’t put on things you don’t want. You might have to pay shipping but that will be less than 3000

Average members are getting 11000 to 14000 off from Msrp. I personally got 12500 could push for another 1000 or so but no truck in 100 mile radius with the configuration I wanted.
3 weeks later after my purchase another dealer called and offered 14000 off msrp on my second choice.

What was his explanation? If you are ordering a truck it should be the way you want it. Unless there's a package that includes what you want and has the anti-spin (which would save you money) then his reasoning has to be internal and should be of no concern to you.

Have you checked another dealer to see if they tell you the same thing? Even if you don't plan on buying anywhere else check around and see if you get fed the same info. You can take that back to your dealer if they are not willing to cooperate.

He was worried that if for some reason the deal didn’t go through, he wouldn’t be able to sell it. (Weird?)

Anyways, I’ll be checking out other dealers this weekend and see what they offer. Thanks for the feedback.

Also, they had a Laramie with with 12 inch displays for 55k and when I told him that I was able to build one online for cheaper (49k), he said that in the end the price would end up being about the same because they had to buy it also. Is this accurate? is it just plain impossible to special order one with 12 inch display for dealer price of 49k?

I got my Laramie for 49k with the 12" screen and a lot more. Price should be the same for a truck on the lot or to order one. Price should be: MSRP minus dealer discount, minus FCA discount, minus other (USAA) discount you qualify for.

If you can build it online for 49k then the dealer can order it for that price also. The dealer should then put their discount on top of that 49k. I would personally be happy with a dealer discount of 7.5 - 8k on a 49k truck but you may need to shop around until you find a dealer willing to give that discount. Then manufacturer incentives should be on top of that. I doubt you will be able to build a Laramie for 49k with 12 inch because you will probably want to add some other options but if not, you might be able to, I havent tried it on the website myself.
Also to answer your question more directly, no the dealer should not add on any cost to the order because "they have to buy it". They should be taking costs down from the MSRP to get you to buy it.

I wasn't clear. The MSRP was 59k. With discounts 49k.

Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. Gives me an idea on what to negotiate.
So, yeah, I double checked. Laramie, 4x2, crew 5”7, v8, 12 inch with level 1 equipment, anti spin rear axle, and wheel to wheel side steps. 49,360 NET PRICE.
MSRP: 42,640.
What am I not understanding?

As built MSRP is $50,860 including destination charge. With dealer discount and FCA discounts you should be able to get that down another $8 to $9k.

Not sure why the are telling you it cost more to order the truck. I think that is BS.
