What's with the oil catch cans?

I ran catch cans on both my gmc sierras and never had problems with the dealership. Do Ram dealerships make a fuss over them?

The Ram 5.7 Hemi isn't Direct Injection, so...

I have had the BG intake cleaning performed on my 2012 Hyundai Azera with GDI, but that's not really what we're talking about here.
Hey Gman. So I understand it. Isn’t the 5.7 both direct and port injected? If so, there is fuel wash on the back side of the intake valves helping to keep them clean and negate the purpose of a catch can. Right?

The 5.7l Hemi is port injected. The Ford EcoBoost is both port and direct injected.

Got it. I was confused in thinking the 5.7 was both DI and PI. Must have been fake news on the internet. My 2nd Gen ’17 EB was both. Prior to that EB were only DI. Don’t believe a catch can offers an appreciable benefit to a PI engine. Now if the 5.7 only had the acceleration of the 3.5 EB...Hmmm?

There was a lot of talk about 5.7l going to DI in anticipation of this new generation, but it didn't happen.

...and I'm OK with that. ;)

Two cents: I am for a catch can on a vehicle I plan to keep for it's lifetime. The benefits are way down the road. But I don't want to own this RAM when the warranty runs out. There is to much going on in these vehicles today. But I will be in line to get a new one when the warranty is up. Maybe it will have a 400+ hp inline 6 with better mpg. So, no to catch can bc I wont own it past 50k miles. Someone would reap the benefits and would not help on dealership trade-in. I also only run Chevron 93 with the highest amount of Techron. So, I never add any cleaners bc it's always in there. That's the way I live life, but fully understand the catch can life too.

I plan on keeping mine until the extended warranty runs out at a minimum, so the small price for the catch can seems like a no-brainer. No issues with the dealer when there for routine service intervals.

Any different thoughts if I purchased my truck used with 25k miles? It was a fleet vehicle prior. I'm assuming it wouldn't matter and it's the same decision process whether to add or not.

Put a catch can on it. Its never too late to add one. I put one on my 15 sierra that i purchased used with 30,000 miles

I don't think it matters where it came from, just matters how long you plan to take it down the road. And where your OCD is.

I installed a catch can a few weeks ago at 3700mi. Just changed the factory oil(50% on the meter) at 4353 mi and I had about 15ml of oil in my mishimoto can. I’ll check in another 1000 to track for any trends. BCB0E776-089D-453C-AC8C-05D14956311B.jpeg

I just passed 5800mi. I changed my oil about a thousand miles ago. As promised I opened my catch can today and found that it had over 20ml. Compared to factory oil the oil was noticeably thinner(5-20/30 blend of synthetic)

And whether you believe in things like healing crystals and dream catchers.

Or God.. or climate change.. or things there are proof of possibility but no certainty around.

Sorry just thought these were better examples than the two you provided :p

I changed my oil(5000mi OCI)at 9800mi today and had 1/2 cup of oil in my catch can. There was a little bit of “mayo” at the bottom. I am running Rotella Gas Truck 5-20w full synthetic with additional moly additives. I pulled an oil sample that I am going to send to the lab next week.
