What did you do to your Ram today???

Interesting because I literally just upgraded to a Ram with 5.7 Hemi in the 3.92 axle from a Silverado 1500. My camper is 7000 dry weight and was figuring this would be fine. Does anybody know where to get the full spec sheets on our Ram trucks of all the different weight ratings?

Or the specs on a 1500 5.7 Hemi 3.92 axle short bed

The 3.92 gives you a higher trailer tow rating, but everyone had told me that it does nothing for the payload capacity. I was good with everything except payload.

Btw, my truck had the 3.21 axle ratio.

Yeah some of these things are really interesting because when you get the etorque it will pull better on the lower range from a standstill yet it reduces your towing and payload weight by 110 lbs because of its own weight for the etorque component and is battery I'm sure so there are factors in all different kinds of places

I think you’re most likely going to run into payload issues with a 7k dry camper.

My camper was 5800 dry, 7000 loaded, and I still felt I needed to go to a 3/4 ton. If you only tow to local parks, etc, you may be fine, but long distances or mountains are going to be an issue.

Just finished detailing the interior with OptiClean ( no it wasn’t required at all), sealed all interior glasses and trims and door panels with OptiSeal. Yes I am aware I have issues and OCD
 
Yeah... that was entirely incorrect and certainly doesn't match the stickers on the driver's door jamb (which is where you should be looking for payload/towing capacity).

Interesting it was so wrong

You would think it would be correct


Obviously the door is the best place the look but I’m surprised it’s that off. I’m going to take a look at mine now.

Considering they are asking for your VIN, you are 100% correct... no idea why it is so wrong.

Well I’m 500# off the ram “towing guide”

Terrible how misleading that was


On comparison my wife’s Lexus GX has 1321 max Payload and 6600 GVWR


My truck is 1391 max Payload and 7100 GVWR

Changed air filter and sat with the top cover of the airbox in my hands for a minute contemplating removing the charcoal screen. The armchair engineer in me just couldn't wrap my head around why all of a sudden after years of normal operating airboxes not having these, why now? EPA? Conspiracy? Overall wastefull/lazy engineering? A real head scratcher! Just as many questions as to what would be the benefit of ripping it out popped in my head.

Chose to leave it for now until one of the pioneers of "charcoal filter removal" shows mpg or hp gains or something else beneficial to it's removal.

We should probably end this specific discussion here since it’s a little off topic, so if you want to chat more go ahead and start a new thread on towing questions.

I saw your payload was around 1,391 or something, which is 300lbs less than mine, and that’s what was causing me my main issues. I think you aren’t counting the tongue weight as a part of your payload.

It should be 10 - 15 % of your trailer’s GVWR. Dry, the weight is 7k, and I’m guessing 8,200+ is your GVWR on the camper. 10% is 820 lbs, and 15% is 1,230 lbs. If it ends up being 15%, you have an extra 161 lbs before you’ve hit max payload. You still need to add your weight and any passengers weight and anything else you plan to be in the truck with you.

At ~1,391 payload with a 7k dry camper, I’d be VERY worried. I had 1,667 with a 5.8k dry camper and still had to switch to a 3/4 ton.

Started my speaker upgrade. Have the stock 6 speaker system. Purchased Infinity Ref-3032cfx 3.5’s for the dash and Ref-9632ix 6x9’s for all four doors. Only got the dash in so far. Very noticeable difference. Looking forward to getting the doors done.

Coming up on 2500 miles. Getting ready to do my first oil change.

Agreed. And thanks for your thoughts. But the Max payload on mine is 1690 lb. 1,391 was another person who posted. When we travel there's nothing in the bed maybe two bicycles and passengers. And when we camp on the beaches it's only the driver, two 50lb. generators, paddleboards and firewood. No passengers so it all stays under either way.

I’m at 1391

I sold my 5th wheel RV, 28’ gooseneck and my 3500 Cummins and just pull a utility trailer.

I’ll be fine for my needs as a family hauler and occasional furniture mover.

Bare in mind I’m not even a loaded Laramie longhorn. With some of these trucks out there I would suspect there to be some trucks running around sub 1,000 with all the options.
