USB and CarPlay doesn’t work when hot outside.

By middle plug, do you mean the middle usb port or do some of you have an aux port back there? Here’s what mine looks like.

Mines the same way. I just left out the middle USB port. I've plugged in my phone to both USB ports and both USB-C and it works on all of them.

It must connect to the rear Media hub because mine doesn't work now.

Got a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie and it's happened me again today in 90F weather. Plugged into USB console, my phone shows it's charging (indicating USB console works) but Android Auto won't work. 30 mins into drive Android Auto starts working. Bizarre
The guy in
replaced his USB hub with no luck.

I don’t have this truck anymore but the problem was definitely a faulty thermistor. Pulling F[emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]] worked for me every time. Got to the point where I just left a pair of needle nose in the car. If I had kept it I would have put more work into it. They may have fixed the faulty thermistors in new versions of the hub.
 
Subscribing because this is happening to me when it's hot out in my '23. Most of the time I can't listen to USB on my ride home.

So there's no other ports in the truck that might work when it's hot out? I'll try to get them to replace the usb hub when I take it in for it's first service. I'm sure they'll have no idea what I'm talking about.

You can have them replace it but unless it’s a revised part then it won’t do any good. In my eyes it’s a design flaw. And the fact that it’s happening to so many people and Ram plays dumb is very telling of how the company treats its customers.
 
On another note it appears TapaTalk app doesn’t work properly on this forum anymore. I apologize the the weird replies.
 
If they swap with the upgraded part number, it will be fixed. Mine works fine ever since. Even with heat indexes of 115+
 
So I got the new media hub installed and it still didn't work. However I saw somewhere on this forum that someone unplugged the middle plug on the media hub and it worked for them. I gave that a try and it has worked flawlessly, so I just kept it unplugged lol.
I knew I saw this somewhere. Do you or anyone else know where that cable goes? If that goes to the back of the center console for the rear seat passengers to have a USB, has anyone tried disconnecting it at that end? I have to hire people to do work for me so I am trying to fix this with the least hours I have to pay for. It may be easier and faster to get to it on that end.
Opinions?
This getting old crap is not working out. It hurts and it is expensive.
 
Ok, I made an appointment for my first service and put the part # in the appointment request, 68397098ae. Probably should have made the appointment a few weeks ago so it would still be hot enough to make it fail. Hoping for a heatwave for when it's in service lol.

Also asking them to fix the turn signal issue (doesn't turn off).

Not holding my breath that they will fix either issue. The USB is the most annoying because I can't listen to my music on my commute home which is usually the only time I do listen to music.

EDIT: I'm Uconnect 5 I think (2023). So is it a different part #?

it may be different. 68397098ae Says 2019 to 2021. Just make sure they put the latest revision of the part for your truck. You would think it would have been fixed for 2023. Maybe they put a 2019 part in your truck to get rid of the excess old parts.

I’m curious to see what PN the old one has. You should ask them to give it to you after the swap

If he pays out of pocket for repair, he can as for old one. If it's warranty, they won't because they will have to send bad part in for inspection

It should be under warranty because I bought it new about 6 months ago and it has 4300 miles on it. I'll see if they will get me the part # on the old one assuming they actually change it and don't just tell me they couldn't reproduce the problem.

I'm testing whether cooling down the flash drive before trying to play has any effect. Yesterday I disconnected the drive when I parked in the morning. Then held it in front of the AC vent in the afternoon for a few minutes before plugging it in and it actually worked.

I dropped mine off at the dealer on the way home from work. Told them about the USB problem. Said they will let it sit for 3+ days before it gets assigned to a service rep. I should've just kept it and brought it back when they're ready. At least I have a spare vehicle to drive.

Mine seems to be a problem when the weather is around 95+ degrees. Looks like next week, Monday through Wednesday will be above 95. So if they wait until Thursday, they likely won't be able to reproduce the problem. Since it's fall, that might literally be the last day of this year that gets that hot. So fully expecting them to say they couldn't reproduce the problem and I'll have to bring it back next summer.

I'll probably email or call the service rep on Tuesday since it's supposed to be 97. 99 on Wednesday. Ask him to check it out around 3PM after leaving it in the sun. I'll assume he 'can't' do that.

They really shouldn’t have to reproduce a well known issue that is due to a part with faulty specs. Especially if there is a new part that superseded the previous one.

Hopefully the service tech agrees with you and is aware of the problem. The service rep seemed to never have heard of this.

Reminds me of my 2012 Jeep Wrangler that had a common water pump squeak. Showed the service tech my video on Youtube with dozens of people saying it's the water pump. Took 3 trips to the dealer to get them to finally replace it. Had to wait until it got so bad that it was always making the noise. That video got over 25K views lol.
