USB and CarPlay doesn’t work when hot outside.

Hopefully the service tech agrees with you and is aware of the problem. The service rep seemed to never have heard of this.

Reminds me of my 2012 Jeep Wrangler that had a common water pump squeak. Showed the service tech my video on Youtube with dozens of people saying it's the water pump. Took 3 trips to the dealer to get them to finally replace it. Had to wait until it got so bad that it was always making the noise. That video got over 25K views lol.

Yeah. I think they are trained to act like it’s the first time for everyone. Never heard any service manager say “Oh yeah, that’s a common problem”.

Agreed. Though he seemed to not even understand the problem.

Rep: So the radio screen doesn't work when this happens?

Me: NO! Just the USB port.

Rep: So the car play won't work when connected to your phone?

Me: No, I have wireless car play. Just a USB flash drive for music.

Still confused, had to explain what a flash drive was and that it has music on it and how it sounds better than bluetooth car play, doesn't use your phone battery, etc. I should have walked him out to the truck to show him.

Make sure they leave it parked in the hot sun all day before they try to reproduce the issue. That’s when mine would do it. After 9 hours in the parking lot at work, no dice. Drive for 10 minutes, let the cab cool down, reseat the fuse under the dash, and it would start working again

Yes, pretty much the same. My commute home is around 25 minutes. USB won't work on a hot day. Though if I drive maybe 10 minutes with the AC on, then stop somewhere briefly like a convenience store, when I start up the truck again it will work.

Hopefully, they'll let me talk to the service tech. I work in IT, so feel like I can explain it to the tech much better than the service rep who didn't seem to really understand the problem or any of the troubleshooting.

Cool. If they pull fuse F43 under the dash after the cab cools off they will recreate the scenario without shutting the truck off.

I’ve had 3 vehicles since this truck but in my testing I could pull the fuse immediately after starting the vehicle and it would come back everytime.

I wanted to put in a breaker switch to cut power with the fuse in line but I guess instead I just got rid of it. 🤣

I thought of doing the same thing! Luckily the new part number worked wonders

So the dealer called. They've had my truck for 8 days. They ordered the part for my turn signal, so at least that annoyance will be fixed. For the USB, they're going to do a software update and test again.

I advised they have through next Thursday for 95+ degree weather, then it may not be that hot again until summer. Of course, they can't find a way to expedite the software update and testing, so again, not holding my breath. Really annoying that we're looking at about 2 weeks to POSSIBLY fix a USB port. From what I've read online, this time table sounds normal though. Still not going to give them good reviews for taking this long. 4 days to get it assigned to a service rep? Then just have me drop it off 4 days later.

The dealer called today. Said they did a software update and haven't been able to reproduce the problem. Good timing for them, because I was on my way to pickup the kids and have a longer than normal drive tomorrow so picked it up. Probably only a few hot enough days left this year, so will cross my fingers. Though I'm guessing I will be bringing it back next summer.

For the turn signal issue, they replaced the clock spring. Didn't think that would be the fix, but seemed to be good on the way home.

If not fixed: Talked to a friend this weekend that has dealt with this dealer and advised who I should request for a service rep. They have two Jeeps (oldest is 2012) and a Ram. So will try that rep next time if not fixed.

So pulling the fuse and replacing it will make the USB work again?
Yes, it kills power to the USB hub, turns it back on, and it starts working again. Just a pain to do because it’s under the dash.
