Uconnect 5 is much better but…

Turn up the brightness, it only darkens the background not the text when you turn up the brightness.
So! How do you turn up the brightness? If you're talking about the wheel next to the Head Light Switch, it doesn't work. Only goes from Dash Lights Off (All the way to the bottom of wheel) to total bright Dash Lights On (Once you get past the bump or click). This wheel doesn't work like the cars of old where the further up you spin the dial the brighter the lights get. With this dial it's either Off or ON and no changes in between.

I’m your Uconnect under settings then display, you will see the plus and minus for the brightness.

OK! I played with mine as well. In the old days this wheel was used to make the dash lights go from nothing (Dark) and increase in brightness as you moved the wheel in the up direction until you reached the top position. Then you reached a bump whereas it you went past the bump you turned on the interior lights.

The wheel dial (Next to the Headlight Switch) in my Big Horn starting from the bottom position is Dark (No Dash Lights) but as you move it up the lighting doesn't increase. Once you reach the bump the Dash Lights are still off. When you go past the bump (Past the Click) the Dash Lights go to full bright but the interior lights do not come on.

Maybe my wheel doesn't work properly?

Earlier today I went to the dealer and was told to turn my lights to the ON position (Not Auto) Once you have the Headlights in the On Position you can change the brightness level with Lights On in the Manual Mode but not the Auto Mode.

As far as I can tell the Auto Mode does nothing..... LOL
I’ve had my headlights in Auto mode since day one with no issue. As for the 2 wheels next to the headlight knob, the left one is interior lights and the right one is dash/radio (so to speak) brightness. Again I’ve had mine set to about midway below the bump with the radio dark/light themes working as advertised. The dash wheel does increase and decrease light intensity as you adjust it regardless if your headlight knob is in Auto or On position. If you go past the bump your radio will stay in the day mode regardless of settings. If your dash lights stay off below the bump you definitely have an issue.

For the Display brightness mode in settings being greyed out. It has nothing to do with the headlight knob it’s because it’s set to auto in the settings. Set it to manual and you’ll be able to adjust them. Turn your headlight knob to on/auto/off/parking position while looking at the settings and you’ll see it has nothing to do with it.

For the Theme mode if it’s set to Light or dark it’s always going to stay that way and in light setting it may be(it is to me) to bright at night. Setting to auto will let it switch when the headlights come on. Only downside I’ve found is during the day when it rains and the lights/wipers come on it can be too dark to see the screen, but you can turn the dash brightness to max(above the bump) and the radio will switch back to the light theme.

Your Picture clearly shows the problem I'm having! You have two rotary dials. I have only one! Your Truck must not be a Big Horn correct?

But the dial that you do have controls the instrument panel, radio, and overhead cup holder light. The only thing the second dial you are missing controls is ambient footwell and door handle/map pocket lights.

Gotcha! Thanks!

Thanks! You've been an awesome help! Going to follow your lead and set mine accordingly. Hopefully this will work on my Big Horn! Have a GREAT Day!

Looking at my settings tonight and wondering if you have the both Display Mode and Theme mode selected to Auto. See pic.

I played with my dash brightness wheel and if I go past the little click to always max the radio defaults to daytime(light) mode. Once I reduced to right below the click you can feel, the radio defaults back to user settings mode and goes dark.

I have display mode set to Auto
Theme mode set to Dark

& I can adjust the display brightness with the dash wheel on the right at night. (Same as the single wheel in your bighorn)

You can also adjust the brightness on your Uconnect in settings under display.

Did you figure this out or did you have to go to the dealer for it?
Neither I nor the dealer could make it happen. I just set it to dark theme 24/7. A little hard to see during bright sunny days, but at least I can see the road at night.

If your dial is like my wife’s Jeep, you may have 2(yes 2 😂) little clicks for your dash. First click sets it to always bright dash/radio and the 2nd is interior/overhead lights on. Make sure your set below both clicks. Just another thought and something I found on hers with only 1 brightness wheel adjuster.

Thanks for still trying to figure this lighting out. As hard as I try I can't get a second click on the dial. One click changes the Dash Light and Uconnect Lights. No Overhead Lights or Footwell Lights. Maybe the Big Horns come with less accessories than I antiscipated?

Updated 1st thread with some updates. 1 big one is this one.

10. Weather and Traffic doesn’t seem to display. Update: Fixed with ver 22.S23.13-Prod. Most members have to do a factory reset under settings and then weather/traffic will function as intended. May also require a soft reset afterwards also. This sucks but I can confirm the reset fixes it after the update.
