TRX Steering Wheel Swap

As I read through this thread. I’m so happy I checked the GT box, when I ordered my Ram Rebel. Looking forward to installing my TRX steering wheel. Hopefully my work schedule will open up, and I can get this done soon.

For anyone that's done this swap, have you been able to retain the heated steering wheel functionality as well as the vibration for the lane departure assist?

I hadn't thought about the vibration for Lane Departure Assist, but I feel like that is probably done through the steering column, not the steering wheel rim(??).

Yeah that's just it, I can't find anything out on the web that's definitive about it. I found a Google AI summary that seems to pulled the motor is in the steering wheel from someone, but it's the same AI that said AlfaOBD works on the 2025... To me it makes more sense the shaker motor is in the steering column and is linked to the motor that pulls the wheel back to center line. I seriously doubt Stellantis would invest that much money into a steering wheel that's in a Bighorn/Lonestar... Maybe for the Limited or Tungsten that have the "auto pilot" or whatever they call it. So I saw that a bunch of guys here had swapped their wheels and hoped maybe they might know...

So I just tried to swap out the steering wheel on my 2025 Lonestar with the night edition and level 2 group packages. It appears that in 2025 Ram changed out the air bag connectors, and made it so the harness now plugs into the clock spring. Nothing too major, it might even make it easier to change out a blown airbag. However they also changed how their heated steering wheels now connect up (as in the connector is totally different). So now if I were swap my wheel I'd lose the heated steering wheel feature which is a no go for me. Thought I'd share in case anyone else was looking to try this upgrade. Hopefully down the line the aftermarket gets to also put out similar adapters.

Hello everyone,

Just finished installing a TRX steering wheel from ebay, I have a 2023 ram 1500 ecodiesel limited with digital cluster,

Everything except the paddles works, (not even as gear limiter like original steering)

Any advice? I tried alfaobd and set the 2 settings to yes but had to switch back as it deleted the D1 ect from cluster, not sure what's the issue as others mentioned that they've simply swapped and the paddles works as limiter at least..

I swapped the left buttons but not the right ones (the ones with ACC on it) could that be the issue? My original doesn't have ACC

And I've read the whole thread and didn't find anything, maybe I missed it, If I did my apologies,

Thank you guys for all your help in advance..

are you certain you didn't miss any plugs?

Just went to the truck again took everything apart, double checked all connections, changed the switch for the one originally in it and still doesn't work, maybe it's damaged, not sure..

unless the eco diesels are different in some way, the wheel should be plug and play, and the paddles will work as gear limiter buttons.

unless something got messed up in alfa. which bcm settings have you tried?
