Truck showing incorrect outside temperature

I was surprised to see my truck reading >100° today when it is only in the upper-70s. I'm guessing that it's because the truck spent most of the day in the sun, but my previous car had no problem showing the outside temp accurately after sitting in the sun. After a 20 minute drive home it was still reading at 90°.

Anybody else seen this?

Mine has read in the mid 120*'s if I leave it in the afternoon sun down here. The black plastic on the bottom of the driver's mirror where the temp sensor is located just absorbs so much heat. I've been thinking about relocating the senor but I haven't really dug into it too much. Most of my other vehicles, the ambient temp sensor was usually behind the grille somewhere.

That was going to be my next question. It's located inside the cab? How would it ever read an accurate outside temp if it was inside?
 
It's outside, underneath the driver's side mirror. There is a little access panel and you can see just the tip of the sensor sticking out.
 
All winter my temp readings were 4-6 degree high, I don’t even look at it any more I know it’s going to be 10-20 degrees high in the summer. To bad a $60,000 truck doesn’t have a functioning outside temp reading

I have a 2005 Buick that I keep as a spare car. I pretty much only drive it now when my RAM is on sleepovers at the dealership. The thermometer is spot on and the AC will freeze your beans off.

Same thing coming from a 2008 Malibu. AC turns that car to an icebox and the temp has never been wrong. Taking the truck to the dealership to look at the AC next week. Sounds like people are not getting that resolved. I figure the more reports they get, the better chance for some real resolution.

It’s also good to have it documented in the event that it completely fails after the warranty period is up. At least you can say you’ve been complaining about it since day one. I had mine in once for the AC already, and of course they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I’m going to ask them to check it again when it goes in for the latest recall.

I find it ridiculous that the temp probe is not accurate. My 2013 Big Horn was always within a degree or two. I bought a $66,000 truck and the temp is inaccurate. That's unacceptable when this is supposed to be a "luxury" truck at a Limited Trim Level. Hopefully a recall or calibration will be done soon.
 
If I recall correctly my Avalanche has the sensor on the antennae and was always spot on.
 
I have also noticed this problem on my truck. Hoping for a fix soon.
 
Yup. Just noticed this today, when I made a quick grocery run. Ambient temp was about 85. When I first started the truck, it showed 95. The longer I drove it, the more the temp dropped. Was finally pretty close to correct about the time I got home.
 
Join the club - mine is always 4 to 8 degrees off - unacceptable because it turns the heated seats and wheel on based on the reading I believe.
A different thread mentions this issue and they were able to unplug the sensor to reset it and it worked for them. I as of today have same problem and plan on trying this.
 
Well, I'm joining the club. I remote started my truck in today's crispy 19F, hoping to have a nicely warmed up seat and steering wheel when I get in. Unfortunately, the truck "thought" it was... 50F outside! That's what my Uconnect was displaying and of course the seat and wheel heater did not kick in. Truck was parked in the sun and the black mirror cover was warm-ish to touch... I guess that's what confused the sensor. What a terrible design flaw and a useless feature. Geez. :-(

just the opposite. It was about 50F outside this morning but was doing some work outside and worked up a sweat and had remote started the truck Before needing to make a quick trip. Hoped in and the temp read 30F, heater blowing and the heated seats and steering wheel were on. Temp stayed at 30 for nearly a mile before started climbing to the actual temp.
