tranny damage on 2 day old rebel

That sucks man, I would be frustrated as well. Hopefully its a minor issue and not a mechanically one. Your powertrain warranty is 5 years, 60K, but you will be getting a ton of offers from Mopar to extend your warranty, but those you will have to pay for.

If they need to replace the tranny, it won't hurt to ask for an extended warranty beyond the 5 year/60k. After just 2 days of ownership, I honestly would try and get them to switch me to another truck for a failed tranny, people here have had truck replacements for even less. But hopefully, it's a simple sensor or some other electrical issue.

No way thats happening

I seen people here get switched out complete trucks for body work and even paint work, I have seen another for an engine. So it's possible, especially after only 2 days, but that's up to who is helping him and how far he wants to push.

Any way to link or point me to those posts. I am curious about the process. I factory ordered a 2018 F-150. A week in, has hard grinding noise from front end. Bright to shop 3 times for issue but could not be reproduced by the techs. I contacted an family member who is a Ford engineer and then I had to show the dealer the service repair instructions myself.

Turns out the trucks are always in 4x4 and when you start them a vacuum disengages the hubs. My vacuum was only partially disengaging them so the grinding was hubs slipping for miles. Even after repairs I brought it in 6 times for repair due to same issue over the course of 2 years. The shop never actually documented the repairs and Just kept reprinting original receipt for me. Ford refused buyback/lemon because as far as they were concerned there was only 1 documented repair.

I don’t know where my bad karma comes from. I’m a Nurse and EMT. I do my best to hell others and this is thesecond time I’m getting a new car issue.
I will keep everyone updated!

Absolutely man! This was the most recent one. This truck replacement was based on a body seem crack on the top of the cab. Luckily he loaned out a generator to someone by coincidence who could help him process his issue. See the details to that at post #32. Maybe if you contact him, he can speak with that manager on your behalf?

I'll see if I can find the other threads I saw the included a truck replacement.

He didn't lemon law that and thats significantly different than a trans issue. This situation, the owner can be made whole easily without a buyback.

What does the lemon law have to do with this? This is about buying a new vehicle and then requiring major mechanically repair after just a couple of days. Imagine plugging down $$$ to have your new truck need a new tranny?

However, this is assuming a transmission replacement. If it's something simple, then of course go the warranty route. But I wouldn't be happy about requiring a new transmission after just 2 days, and it could hurt resale to have that on your service records.

See post #16

Never affected my resale. Yanking the engine was way more involved than swapping a trans. Never lost sleep over it. A warranty repair, plain and simple. Hardly a blip in my life.....

That's totally cool, but everyone is different and their opinions on certain things are going to be weighed differently. Some people won't think twice about it, other will have the opposite feeling.

I personally would have an issue plunking downing 40-50 large and having to replace my tranny after 2 days. If it was a year later, probably won't have the same feeling for me. I had a tranny replaced on a past truck, but it was already 2 years old when it happened, didn't bother me one bit especially when they added a 100k warranty to it.

It's up to the OP what he wants to do, but the fact he is asking these questions means it probably bothers him enough to investigate that option.

Thanks. It does bother me.
Quick update:

(Ordered truck through CT dealer, I live in NY)

I had called RamCare and opened a case because the dealer/shop I brought it to only gives loaners if you bought the car from them and even if they wanted to give me one - there will be no loaners available until October. (BS!).

So they call me back next day and leave a message saying they assigned me a case manager but she is on vacation for the next WEEK - But the person leaving message was helping her out. She said she will ask the dealer for a rental. I call back to tell her the story of dealer said no... the new rep who answers sends a message for another rep currently working to call me. this new rep also reads the note on my account stating they asked the dealer to give me a loaner. Never got a call back.

This happened starting when I first made the post. It happened 3 days in a row until finally one rep says I can get reimbursed for a rental. Up to $35 max. Labor Day weekend or not- no hertz, enterprise, etc offers any vehicle that cheap in NY! Not even a Kia!

Furious, I send a professional, yet stern email about my situation to dealer I purchase from. Owner makes a few calls and surprise! I get a loaner from my ram shop- except it’s Labor Day weekend and I had to wait until Tuesday to pick it up.

Still zero word on my truck from shop,
I will continue to update. Thanks for all opinions so far.

Just another reason to buy locally, even if you end up paying a bit more. Those "savings" are out the window in this situation. When you deal with the service department at the selling dealer, they will be more likely to help out and eat some costs that FCA or any other manufacturer won't cover. I've always tried to buy locally for this exact reason.

I bring this up not to give the OP a hard time but to make others reading this aware of what can happen. How am I so sure? Let's just say I have first hand experience.

Reminds me of my 1994 Ford Explorer that had a transmission vacuum modulator that went bad. It would suck transmission fluid out and end up in my oil, transmission fluid low, oil high. Took a while to figure out what was happening. When the mechanic replaced it he was unaware of the pin and didn't realize the pin had fallen out so I had more problems. Had to make a pin from a 10 penny finish nail. My sons learned how to check the transmission fluid. So nice owning the new Ram with the lifetime warranty.

What do you mean by owning new ram with lifetime?

**° UPDATE °**

Service advisor stated that the transmission fluid was low from the ‘factory’ and driving it without the proper fluid caused the tranny to fail. They sent fluid samples and other info to Chrysler who have approved my truck for a NEW transmission.

Let’s say dealer is supposed to check this on delivery- what else can I look for to see if anything was missed? Example: Engine oil ? What other damage could have been done?

any chance of ramcare offering extended warranty? I’m so upset about this!

You should be telling them what they are paying for. Rent a comparable vehicle and send them the bills. You should also expect them to goodwill you and pay the car insurance and payment while it is in the shop. If you want a extended warranty tell them now. If it hits 30 days in the shop, tell them you want a new truck or a full refund, the easy way, or the hard expensive way.

I honestly would be calling my salesman and whoever you worked with for this sale and telling them you want a new truck, this is unexceptionable for 48 hours of ownership.

A replacement for a simple fix of course not, this happening a couple of years down the line, of course not. But for 2 days? They need to get you a new truck, let them fix and resell that one.

At the very very least, they need to be offering you a free loaner for as long as you need and an extended powertrain warranty beyond the 5 year/60K. But that's up to you.

I certainly doubt any dealer checks the trans fluid level during prep because of the process involved. Had the same thing happen on a new Challenger. Replaced it and moved on with no other issues. If you like the truck, it will be new and under warranty is all you can expect from them. Bet the fluid level will be right in the new one!

I factory ordered a 2020 Rebel. I picked it up and on my second day of driving it began Erving high between gears and shifting very hard. Then I had multiple check engine lights and the truck wouldn’t go over 40mph. Dealer did quick scan and popped 4 transmission codes. Stuck in 3rd gear, gear ratio error, and a few others. Truck went into “limp mode”.
Ram care said they will get me a rental while it takes the dealer a week to even take a look.
My question is- can I demand a new vehicle? Consumer care act of 2015 seems to allow me to cancel the sale within 30 days.
Any advice? Legal or other ?
From what I understand...they will just swap the transmission out for you. Better off anyway. I'd also have them double check the ECU/computer just to make sure that they didn't play any part in the transmission issue.

Lemon law doesn't apply here....yet. it's only a lemon if after they work on it the issue keeps coming back.

I know, I'm referring to the people that think this or the other cases are lemon law worthy

Stop, seriously.
This dosen't warrant buying back the vehicle and will not impact its value or reliability. I'd be more concerned about dealers with hail damaged cars that don't inform customers. A new trans ain't sh*t, wouldn't bother me one bit.
