...Time to talk about warranty

Understood, and I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. I'd just like more clarification.

For example, there's no mention of "eTorque", the "Belt Driven Hybrid Starter Generator Assembly" (as described in the 2019 Ram 1500 Warranty Information Brochure), or even the existence of a stop/start system in the lifetime warranty document.

However, the new car warranty explicitly covers the BSG for 3 years / 36,000 miles. In fact, the only place that the word "hybrid" appears in the warranty at all is the Emission Warranties section on page 18, where it confirms coverage of the Belt Driven Hybrid Starter Generator Assembly.

Now, the lifetime max plan explicitly covers:
  • "Generator (Alternator)" - included in the Electrical section - implying but not specifically delineating coverage for the BSG, especially since that unit replaces the alternator in vehicles so-equipped.
  • "All wiring harnesses" - included in the Electrical section - suggesting any additional wiring for the eTorque system would be covered.
That warranty also states that the only exceptions to coverage are those items listed under "What is not covered by the Plan". Thus if an item is not explicitly listed, it is covered.

You've pointed out the battery coverage exclusion, which is clearly stated. So it all comes back to the definition of two items (and whether they actually apply to the eTorque system):
  • Repairs or replacement to components covered by the Hybrid System Limited Warranty (refer to Warranty booklet for details);
  • Hybrid components: hybrid charging system; hybrid electric cooling system; hybrid power invertor system);
(Inverter is spelled wrong in that document)

So...can anyone find the "Hybrid System Limited Warranty"? I'm having no luck, and it's not mentioned in the warranty booklet at all, which leads me to believe it's referring to a traditional hybrid (e.g. Pacifica), not the eTorque system. But that document might help put this question to bed.
Points well taken - nice job. Bringing it home.

I have 100k on my current 2016 ram, can I transfer to the new one when I trade in?

I’m torn on this. I kept my last truck 8-1/2 years and 120,000 miles. I never needed it but I purchased a 6 year 100k warranty. I’d like to keep this truck the same timeframe. With all the extra tech stuff, touch screen, etorque etc, I am worried not to have it. However, $3000 buys a few small problems before it would pay for itself. I guess it’s one of those things you hope you don’t actually need.
To be honest, etorque never worried me as much as all the new technology, a new build in general. I was one of those that never intended to go that route, but when I went to order my Limited in June, etorque was suddenly the only option.

I agree. I am mostly worried about the gadgetry stuff, especially the touch screen. That’s the main reason I didn’t go with the 12” screen.

I remember reading on some of the window stickers that the ETorque battery is covered for 10 years or 100000 miles for warranty.

Just my 2 cents worth, but perhaps the price increase that's coming in October for the warranties is because of the inclusion of the new items, ie eTorque.

I had so much to say, but then you guys all covered it! Well I guess I can at least pile onto a few things for certainty.

Bottom line up front, yes eTorque is covered. Good analysis all, and Jako you corrected yourself too thanks man. We’ve gotten to the crux: what category will the eTorque components fall under? Zeigler said electrical but I’m waiting on a more detailed email response.
Call and ask for bob. He’s the manager and claims once the truck has shipped they can apply the warranty.
YES. Just talked to him as well. eTorque IS covered, I’ll get the explanation why hwhich system) hopefully soon.
Well I went ahead and did it........figure since i'm going to keep the truck and pass it down why the hell not.
I also bought the warranty, and a few days before I am taking ownership. They just keep pinging the system for it to show as “sold” before activating it. I’m sure there’s a limit to how far in advance you can do this, but for me it’s just a couple days so I didn’t worry.

Heads up though, as has been stated before, you can’t transfer the lifetime warranty so keep it in your name if you give it to someone.

Yeah I saw that not even for family (wtf fca) but hey if i do my part my son should get a solid vehicle when it's his time.

So I've heard a rumor (I've never done it) that you can have more than one name on the warranty (i can't remember where I saw this...old age kicking in). I thought I had heard a father and son had done this so the warranty would still be valid when he gave the truck to his son. There is probably some type of hoops you have to go through but that might be an option

My boy is nowhere near driving age but I'll look into it. Thanks for the heads up.

Regarding the eTorque warranty here was the email response:

“The eTorque System is covered by the factory for 8 years or 80,000 miles. Once outside of the 8 years or 80,000 miles, the eTorque System would be covered by the Maximum Care Plan. Please let us know if you have any other questions. We will be happy to help at 866.943.7778.”

Thank you to everyone that has contributed to these warranty threads. My wife and I are going to give it a year and buy the MVP Lifetime Maximum Care plan if the truck has served us well. We'll end up paying more by waiting, but we want to ensure that the truck is reliable (and we'll want to keep it for the long haul) before investing another few thousand dollars in it. Still, the info you've shared has enabled us to make an informed decision. Typical of the members on this site!

I definitely purchased a bumper to bumper... 6 year 100k... Too many nice parts that can be damaged... Worth it to me.

I just picked up the Lifetime max care with $100 deductable from Zeiger. Thanks for posting the code. Figured it would be good to beat the price increase and it's nice that i can cash it out if I sell my truck.

They must have changed it because some of the early window stickers said 10 years or 100,000 miles. Wonder if you brought in the window sticker if they would honor it.

I think I read after 7 years /100K miles you will get $25.00 when you cancel.
