spare > steel w/32" WildPeak C rated
OEM tires > 33" Duratrac E rated
The white funnel is if you run out of fuel and you need to add fuel, it may come in handy. Ford has same thing in their trucks.First, the important s....t. Got tired of waiting for someone else to do the dirty work for me, so I just completed testing my steel rim spare on my vehicle. It worked fine!!!
That being said, I, if given the chance will never change a wheel on this vehicle again. I have road service and that is what I will use, and if can't get road service, I will call an Uber! Before I got this, my first Ram truck, I never had wheels this big. (22's on a Limited). They look great but to me are huge!
Okay, so much on that, now on to the mystery. When I took my jack kit out there was this little white funnel like tube strapped to the tool bag. About 6 inches long. Would appreciate someone familiar with FCA or Ram trucks to tell me what it is used for. Looked in the manual in regards to tire changing and could not find anything.
Cheers!
Oh, one more thing, it would be nice if the fellow who started this whole thread filled us in on what were the results of his original problem.

Not if the tire is sized appropriately. I wouldn’t run it as anything other than a temporary spare, though. I see cars doing 80 mph with a mini-spare on their daily commute around here, and that’s just asking for trouble!I have the 20" wheels on my truck. My build sheet lists *Full Size Temporary Use Spare Tire and *18" Full Size Steel Spare Wheel. I'll have to get under the truck this weekend and see what's there but isn't using an 18" spare on a truck with 3 other 20" wheels a problem?
I am sitting along the highway as I type this. My worst fear happened on my limited today...hit a pot hole and bent a 22" wheel.......pulled out owners manual...found jack....lowered spare from rear.....jacked up front corner of truck....
Changed tires.......that's when I was dumbfounded by FCA.
Because the spare is a steel (thin) wheel and the 22's are thicker alloy the LUG NUTS WILL NOT TORQUE DOWN!!.....studs are too long......lugs to shallow...whatever!!
$65K TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE SERVICABLE SPARE TIRE.....WAITING FOR TOW....MISSED MY FLIGHT OUT
Is it just me or is this inexcusable from an engineering stand point

I cant believe they put a temporary spare on a pickup truck either! I hope I never have a blowout where I need to use the damn thing! Almost makes me want to buy a real spare! Especially for towing! The hardware thing, a designer should be fired over that!
One heck of a thread. Somewhat concerning.
The temp spare assumes tires are the original diameter.
For off-roading, a "full size spare" implies the same as the wheels, not a different size or on a different size wheel. Off-roading, trucks get flats. The spare has to be a replacement.
Then there is the issue of trailing towing, which I presume many use the Ram 1500s for. Certainly my intent. Towing, you need a full-size spare, equivalent to what is on the truck. On some lonely highway in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday evening, having a spare not capable of towing the trailer is not an option.
It seems FCA didn't provide a solution for trailer towing, has not handled it for Off-Road Group that has 20" or 22" wheels (can the Off-Road Group has 22" wheels??)
Disappointing...
What you listed were my concerns as well, especially in regards to being off-road somewhere remote that you might not want to run a temp spare. I went ahead and replaced my 18" steel spare with a stock wheel (Painted/Polished Aluminum 20") paired with a matching BFG KO2 275/60R20 tire. I was concerned that the center hole wouldn't fit the spare tire lift plate, which was an issue on the 4th gen Ram 1500s, but the spare tire lift does manage to fit even though the center hole is quite a bit smaller in diameter than the spare.
I went ahead and took some pictures in case anyone is interested.
I didn't modify any of the heat shield around the tire, it managed to fit up there without any issues. In regards to your service adviser, I want to say that there was an issue on the 4th gens about fitting a full size spare. For sure I think there was an issue fitting a stock wheel on the 4th gen spare lift cable. Perhaps that's what your adviser is familiar with still.Appreciate this! Even fit a 33" BFG under there! Did you modify or bend the shroud at all?
I actually asked the service adviser that usually helps me for service and recalls about fitting a 5th identical full size spare and was told it would not fit.
I looked myself at the house and measured a around 1 1/2" to "spare" inside that aluminum shroud cover, but the spare appeared so tiny and pathetic I wasn't even sure if i could get the stock 275/55/r20 without removing shroud.
Will pass the info on to the adviser next service.

Either way, glad the pictures helped someone else out so they know what fits under there.

See Post #86 of this thread. Everything you said I did.Yes, your post and photos saved me some time as well.
I was going to jack it up and do a Mock tire blow out emergency to check the spare fitment and double check I have all the tools needed and that my jack actually reaches a lift point before we plan a future road trip! (my 14' had 6" lift and 35"s and my 2 jacks were way too short. Needed few blocks to elevate jack just to touch the frame)
Read about a fellow 5thgenRams owner's story about his 19' Limited spare tire NOT being compatible with those lugs supplied and he was obviously stranded and ended up missed his flight. Unreal!
Different then my 20" setup, but I was definitely going to take the time to check. He had the stock 22" rims the lugs wouldn't tighten fully bc of the width differences in the 2 rims.
So apparently no one tried to put one of these steel cast 18" on with the limited's 22"s during testing or this would have been noticed and addressed right?
I'm not a gambling man, and temporary tire not rated the same as my stock setup for maximum load #'s (think towing heavy and your stock tire goes, putting this go cart spare on) so like you, a real spare is in the near future. Thanks again!
Just had my 1st unfortunate flat with my brand new (1800 miles) limited with the 22’s. The spare fit perfectly.
