Slight Vibration

I feel I should chime in and give my experiences from the 1.3k miles I have on my new Limited.

When I test-drove this Ram, I noticed the vibrations between about 56 to 65 mph immediately. It is only a slight vibration/nothing serious and so far my wife and kids have not commented on it, but was enough for me to notice even when I wasn't looking for it. Unfortunately for me, I travel in that speed range every day when I go to work...so I wasn't happy. The only time it wouldn't vibrate was when I was under load while towing my travel trailer. The dealer said they'd take care of re-balancing the tires for me, but I didn't want to hassle with it (yet) since I knew I was getting new tires.

About 2 weeks ago, I had the new larger & e-rated tires installed by a local auto shop (not the dealer). I am happy to report that the vibrations are now completely gone! Well, at least 80mph and below. I have yet to get it above 80 mph...but that won't be happening until I travel to another state with a higher speed limit.

I know some in this thread seem to have worse vibration issues what I was experiencing...but if you are able, changing tires might be a solution for some.

This made me especially happy since we had similar issues with the 3rd Gen Tacoma's. The vibrations happened at slower speeds (in the 40's), but wheel/tire balancing and/or changes did nothing. It wasn't until 2 different people changed out their entire drive shaft that we started to see positive results. I think it eventually became a TSB, but I was already looking to sell it and didn't want to go through the hassle with the dealer.

OMG yes! Traded in my 2020 for a 2021 with the same f-ing problem. Dealership tells me that they never heard of this issue, I'm the only one... guess this makes me a VIRGIN! Already building a case on this brand new truck with less than 500 miles on it. Already feel the tires chopping.

On no, I had been worried about that since the day I ordered the new one This should be the nicest truck on the road, why can’t they fix this issue? Maybe this is why it’s been at the dealership for 3 weeks and they haven’t released it to me. I’m going to ask my case manager what are my options if this new truck has the same issue. I guess they give me 2-3 weeks to sign off. But I don’t drive much so could be awhile before I really notice it. Guess maybe it’s time to buy Ford or Toyota, overpriced and less options, I’ve always been a Chevy guy and never had issues, but the interior is so ugly in the new Silverado’s! Another thing ram cares did to me, I asked for a address to send my final attempt to fix as that’s how the lemon law reads in Iowa, anyway they would not give me the address, she kept saying it’s in your owners manual. I don’t care if it is or not why in the hell couldn’t she give me the address to send my letter to? One more way to push the customers off. Told them I had 8 pages of documentation for my lawyer, which I still do have it.

And after a 1400+ mile trip over the holidays, I can definitely say that the vibration is no longer an issue for me. YMMV tho. It seems there is more than one factor that can cause the vibrations. I saw this in the Tacoma threads as well...

I’m set for my last service department visit. 3rd Ram dealer trying to fix the issue. They will need it for a couple days as well. That will make 5 days total 4 visits trying to fix the issue. They are not evening going to do what the other starker suggested by road force balancing it. They want to start from scratch again. And my case manager, nice guy and all. Said he doesn’t have a clue what that type of balancing is, and gave me a hard times because the drakes around me don’t have highways close enough to test drive it at good highway speeds for a good amount of time. Because they can’t drive it for to long, can’t be away from the dealership for to long. I have that recorded... so it’s my fault I bought a 70k truck and can’t drive it on the highway. I should stick to local roads where it doesn’t shake like crazy.
Last Chance Ram. I hope you get fixed. I love the truck besides that. If not I will start Lemon Law next week after I picked it up. I’m taking a 1hr drive to at the suggestion of the case worker to a bigger dealer. So 2 hours of my time, and 2 more days without my truck.

They balanced the tires again, they drive it and didn’t like how it felt, still vibrating ( acknowledgement finally) so they did a road force/high speed balance. They told me and wrote if I still feel the vibration the tires will have to be replaced. I drive it home from the 3rd different dealer (this time 45 mins away one way). I will say it did feel smoother for the first 30 mins, I actually got up to 85 without it shaking enough to scramble an egg. But after that it came back. And now at lower than 70mph. So I’ll be calling the rep for my case. They can try mew tires and do it quickly or I’m done, I will be filing lemon law. 5 attempts already to fix it, days and days with out my truck. It’s sucks because I love the truck, looks great, smooth for around town driving. Just a death trap on the highway.

I have a 2021 ram 1500 limited longhorn crew cab 4x4, all factory. took it to the purchasing dealership for a vibration between 55-65 at 1,315 miles. they balanced all 4 wheels and said the problem was gone. Brought it back to the dealership at 3500 miles with the same issue. they test drove it and confirmed the vibration. its been at the dealership now for 3 days. the dealership reached out to ram and now they are telling me the vibration is normal. the dealership is keeping it for another day to try a few things.

Fyi, I'm a mechanical engineer with 40 + years of experience maintaining production equipment. If I feel any vibration in the equipment I shut it down to correct the issue. If not the vibration causes other issues to develop. I've driving pickups since 1994, first a Ford Ranger then F150's, the last being a Ring Ranch. Vibration is NOT normal.

My story exactly, mine was balanced 3 times in first 3500 miles. Balanced 7 times at 7800 miles. I’ve had 20 vehicles in my life and I haven’t balanced tires on all them together over 20 years as this was balanced in 9 months. This is not normal they are so full of it. My tires all all chewed up, many new front end parts, I’m guessing whatever it is caused all my front end to go bad! I pushed for them to buy it back, however had a 2021 built and I’m afraid it will have the same issue. Good luck!

I hope this is all it is after all the time and money, it would be the best case scenario. I would rather just tires than something else. But I fear it’s something more. I do love my truck, looks nice and drives great around town on back roads. Unfortunately I do highway driving as well, sometimes for 8 hrs of more. I’m hoping they do the right thing and I don’t have to have them buy it back. But I’ve already spent more time on the issue than I ever have on anything I’ve bought....ever and this is the second most expensive thing I’ve bought (house behind 1st), a 70k truck should not be like this. And I just came back to Ram from Chevy after decades. :/ good luck. So far Ram Cares as of late has been helpful trying to fix the issue. Dealers seem to know there is an issue but down play it unless you talk to the mechanic who drove it. Ram buyers are loyal, Ram needs to step up and fix and take care of its loyal customers.

I doubt they will put tires on it, because they know there is a issue and for the most part it’s not the tires!

They gave me 4 yrs of oil changes and tire rotations and told me that it was normal for that truck to vibrate. I think not. Going the lemon law route and reach out my states attorney general.

They RF balanced two different times before, obviously this is not the problem. Just wondering though, is anyone having this issue with the eco diesel 2019 - 2021?

I doubt they will put tires on it, because they know there is a issue and for the most part it’s not the tires!

I had my tires replaced by dealership at 1300 miles. Did not fix the problem at all. RamCare keeps telling me it is normal; service mgr tells me it is a problem,but does not know what to fix and FCA says nothing. FL lemon law has me dropping off my truck Monday for the final attempt to fix. Hope to be able to share good news with everyone about how they fix this problem.

I don’t think the motor is the problem, I have the 5.7 gas same issue with my 19. I’ve heard the 2020-2021 still have the same issue

Picking up the truck probably later today. The dealer is telling me they tried numerous things to correct the vibration. The tech and the service manager still feel the vibration but can not correct the issue. A case # has been created with Ram to have an engineering tech come out and try to correct the vibration. If not....NJ Lemon Law. I thought I did a lot research on the Ram 1500 but I never saw any verbiage or footnotes stating that if you drive between 55-65 mph you will experience a vibration and don't worry it is normal.

Same thing I went through, as soon as the ram specialist came to the dealership, he hooked up something that detected vibrations and stated that my truck did not meet the acceptable vibrations. Ive been telling three dealers this and ram cares since day one and no one would listen. Even after many new parts, it still had a vibration and I got them to buy it back. I did read about vibrations in the reviews, but I figured wouldn’t happen to me, guess what it did! But as I read about all brands of new trucks, they are all having issues. I’ve read Ford, gm, Nissan also having vibration issues and Toyota has break problems Good luck, but I’m guessing your story will end the same as mine, no fix and no explanation!

I agree. I think it's an air flow problem or bad part in the drive line. I'm thinking of taping off certain places just to try something. Hood and door seams, the gap between the cab and bed, doesn't hurt to try.

I had a 2019 no vibration, 2021 with a few hundred miles on it and vibrates just like you are all saying. I’m afraid to take it to the dealer just to get the run around. Might just wait for something to break then they can’t play the it’s normal/we can’t find an issue game.
