Slight vibration

I just don’t think it’s completely tire related. I put nice $1300 all terrain tires on my Laramie and it still vibrates. Less than before but it’s still there. I was driving on the freeway last night and it barely vibrated at all. Hopped on again later that night and the vibrations were very noticeable. They come and go, which is really weird and frustrating. Really bad vibrations around 77-80 mph
This is why I can’t believe it’s tire related. Some have gone to totally different tires and are still having the issue. It is odd how it comes and goes. There might be days I don’t feel it then the next day I do. My 15 Silverado had a little vibration right around 55 that wasn’t nearly as annoying as this is. As some have said,it does put you in mind of driving over rumble strips on the highway.

*******Update***** I had the tires road force balanced today and rotated. Drove the truck on the road today to pick up some stuff went about 175 miles no vibration what so ever from 59 to 68 MPH. Went up to 75 and 80 MPH no vibrations as well at those speeds. I suppose the issue I had was different from others. I never had any vibration like rumble strips in the road that was mentioned before the road force balance described by some on our thread here.

I hope others who has the bad vibration issue that a road force balance or tire change has not provided help, finds the culprit or culprits. Expecting the issue on my truck to start back again with vibration after or with in the next 5000 miles or so again. Most likely will get worse as the tires wear more and go out of balance each time as the wear continues, when balancing gets to the point the vibration will not balance out I will dump the tires. Road force balance most certainly solved the issue in my case for now. Plan to monitor this thread to see what others out come will be or try to contribute if I learn any additional information to help others here.

I just drove a new Cadillac XT4 ( with only 1500 miles) from the airport in Nashville and I am so destroyed by how smooth it is. It absolutely glides along on old and new pavement alike.

It's got Michelin Premier tires on it as well. Nice. I hate the Goodyear I have on my truck. I always hated Goodyear. I wish I didn't have any vibration. Definitely going to pursue full resolution with vibration, now that I have a taste of perfection.

I have always put Michelin Primacy's on last three Rams.....Going to put new ones this Ram as well since the forced road balance corrected the vibration with the bridge stones. They changed entire ride of the last trucks!
So...what does a new XT4 sticker for now?

Hi Smoot178,
We understand how frustrating this may be. Please send us a private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this for you. We will gladly have a case escalated for you so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution to this.

I had Michelin Premiere LTX tires on my Mercedes GL 450. They were great riding tires, but tread life sucked. Tires were worn out in about 20K miles.

I had my Limited up to 80 last night and didn't notice anything unusual on the 275/55R20 Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza tires. I'll probably be replacing the OEM tires with Michelin Defender LTX M/S soon.

Just replaced my Limited's 22" OEM tires and wheels with Big O Tires A/T Bigfoot 275/60/r20. Had vibrations at 65 mph and up with the original tires. NO VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH THE NEW TIRES!! Feels really good to be smooth.

The Primacy's gets about 55000 miles on them just before the wear bars. Have never tried the Premieres....may try them when the Scat Packs Michelin wear out too.

Still waiting for my truck to be repaired. Was brought in on 12/4 and I took it home on 12/7, was not fixed because the shipment of tires did not arrive. I brought it back yesterday, 12/12 and they still have it. In addition to the vibration issue and the side mirror that will not function, I now have water entering the cab somewhere! The floors were soaked. The dealer is trying to determine where the water is getting in. This is getting ridiculous! Nearly $70k for a damn truck and this is the quality we get? I’m a first time Ram customer, and this may be the last time...

Welcome to my world. A laundry list of fit/finish issues that need to be addressed. A permanent leather dash defect. Etorque and Uconnect issues that have my truck at the dealer 30 days tomorrow. $67, 000 vehicle?. The dealer has been fantastic thankfully but it doesn't put me back in my truck any faster. First and last time RAM owner.

@MJP , sorry to hear that! What is wrong with the eTorque and why 30 days? How many miles do you have on it?

I dropped the truck at the dealer to begin addressing the fit/ /finish issues and a week later when I went to pick it up the dash lit up with etorque battery codes and check engine light. The dealer did some testing but couldn't figure it out. It wasnt driveable so i had to leave it for them to contact FCA. After a few weeks they (FCA) decided it was a bad battery pack. Dealer replaced the battery pack behind rear seat. I'm not convinced and have seen other posts about etorque charging system problems so I am concerned that is the real root of the problem but the dealer has to do what FCA told them to do. Between diagnostic time and parts it took 3 weeks for the etorque issue alone. Today is exactly 30 days at dealer. They are finishing up some fit/finish issues and supposedly etorque is done. I shudder to think about all of the scrathes, tool marks... my truck probably sustained with rear seat removal etc. Truck has 3000 miles on it. Picked it up early September.

Picked it back up last night. They replaced both front tires. During the ride home I did not feel any wobble or vibration due to vehicle speed. Perhaps that fixed it for me.

They also did three different software updates (pcm flash, tcm update and hcp update).

Were they able to locate where the water was coming in? Hopefully the tires were your solution to the vibration.

@Jasonml24 no, they did not find the source of the water. Sunroof was draining properly, and all other areas appeared to be keeping the water out when they inspected. They dried it out really well and I’m going to keep an eye on it.

@ 63 MPH I get just a slight vibration especially with Cruise Control on...Take cruse off it stops! Then with cruse off get to 63 MPH level off and hold speed the take foot off gas pedal it smooths right out!
3.92 gear
20 Inch Bridge Stones

******What rims are we running?************ I have the painted/polished rims. I just wonder if it could be rim issue?
20 inch painted polished longhorn rims here too

I had my tires road forced balanced as have others and the issue is still there. Plus guys have went to different brands of tires and are still having the issue. Now that it goes below freezing here in Ohio, I have noticed it isn’t as noticeable. That kinda makes sense considering my service dept has been instructed to look at the cab mounting bushings. My guess is they stiffen up enough in the cold so therefore you can’t feel it. Mine didn’t start till I had over 2,000 miles on it.
Come to think of it, mine was really bad on really cold days... the cab bushings is making more and more sense to me.

My only issue with the tire theory is it’s happening to others trucks that have different brands of tires on them. I thought tires at first myself till I started seeing that guys were experiencing this with 18 inch wheels, 20 inch wheels and 22’s. Some with Bridgestones and some with whatever else Ram uses. Hopefully someone finds the fix soon.
IMO, and based on my past experiences in many other cars that have vibrated, MICHELIN made the difference. Not so much plain old new tires...or a RF balance or alignment.

I go from contis to Michelins in audis, everythings smoother. and quieter.

In an infiniti that came with michelins, smooth from get go. silky smooth.

8n the new member post i detail my past cars and makes...

My opinion is that the solution being a mere set of Michelins, a good rf balance and quality alignment could very well 90% make this all go away.... could.

Now admittedly I have not read every single post people have posted on this matter sporadically throught a billions threads, and maybe some have done just what i said with michelins, RF balance and alignment and still have issues, but i have yet to read that combo. Until i do its still a real possible solution in my theoretival head.

And i know 90% corrected isnt good enough for a 60 or 70K truck, but I think I am willing to allow 10% shake on an empty dry bed due to how light it is, and it being a truck. But thats just my allowances.

If not bushings or dampening issues (where the beds lightness isnt engineered well with the dampeners) arent the case, then I might also consider the rear shocks, or the upper mounts or whatever. Loose mounts, or irregularly gassed shocks, and other defective shovks could cause a reverb that a proper bushed cab would have mitigated...maybe... again, i am no engineer.

My line of looking would be the michelin combo of RF and alignment,

Then if not, mounts and or defective shocks, and can mount.

Or bushings.

Last thought, the did decrease the weight of the bed, tailgate and what not. What if they stimuck with underpinnings that worked for a different standard weight in back ajd simply applied the same, in haste, to the redesigned bed, and the engineering just doesnt work together?

From what i hear, the 18s are as silky smooth as what I know my 2015 Grand cherokee to be, at 65K miles.....

I saw a poster in another post that of course I can’t find, say he had a vibration issue as well along with some other issues and his dealer ended up replacing his tie rod ends and that fixed the issue. I know some trucks are experiencing this and some aren’t. I do think some are confusing this with the slight vibration when the MDS kicks in, but that definitely is not what mine is doing. You can tell when I’m close to 55 mph. It starts slowly then once your at 60 it’s fully there. It starts in the floorboard and goes into the steering wheel and the seats. If I have my leg against the door I feel it there as well. My dealer is supposed to be tearing the owners demo apart to find the cause because they claim his is doing it as well. They called me last week to let me know they haven’t got to it yet and that there have been others with the same issue. Hopefully there is a resolution sooner than later. That aside I love this truck and it definitely gets a ton of looks!
