Slight vibration

The cab mounts are not the culprit, they can't possibly be the culprit. NVH issues require 3 things in order to be an issue.

1. A source, This has to be something that is moving or rotating in a cycle. Like a tire, rotor, drive shaft etc.
2. A transmitter, this is the path the vibration follows, control arms, frames, bushings mounts etc.
3. A receiver, This would be you in the drivers seat holding the steering wheel.

Remove any one of these 3 things and the issue goes away. The easiest fix is #3. If no one is in the truck to feel it then there is no one to complain about it, this is not an option though. The cab mount will fall under #2. If indeed they can eliminate the transmission path by changing the cab mounts, you will no longer feel the vibration but the culprit ie the source will still be there. It's also not engine or exhaust related. Through my testing the vibration frequency stays them same at constant speed regardless off what gear the transmission is in. A detected vibration frequency has to match the frequency of the source a change in engine RPM would result in a change in the detected vibration if it was indeed the source, which it doesn't do.

The 2014+ GM half ton trucks had the same issue and GM never admitted to a problem and to this day the source is still unknown and there is no fix. I had the vibration issue in my 2015 Sierra and spent 1000s of dollars and numerous hours trying to fix it to no avail. I will never buy another GM product because of the way they handled it. I'm hoping RAM doesn't handle this issue in the same manner.

From a 32 yr veteran auto tech, I can almost 100% assure you mine is not driveline such as rotating driveshaft, rotor, wheel/tire. I am putting my money on engine. Mine is RPM, NOT speed related. The only thing speed plays in it is hitting the right speed to get the engine between 1400 to 1600 rpm's. Mine is worse loaded at 35 mph @ 1500 rpm's then it is at say 65 mph at 1800 rpm's. Tip in throttle flat road and let it roll through into higher gears (creating heavy engine load) and when it gets to 1400 rpm's it begins, and will continue through 1800 rpm's. Ford, Toyota, Lexus all have suffered from this same type vibration. Here is some reading material Toyota is fighting, simply search tacoma 2000 rpm vibration and your search will explode with concerns and links. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/possible-solution-for-1800-2300-rpm-buzz.502272/
Here is the Lexus battle right now. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx...8-vibration-from-engine-at-1800-2000-rpm.html

I had 3 of 4 tires replaced and all rebalanced and it helped the lower speed vibration I had but still get it at between 60-68mph. Really interested in knowing if someone actually finds a solution.

Update on my copy. Last Friday I reported that they replaced my two front tires and that seemed to fix the 60-ish mph vibration. Well, unfortunately, I was wrong. The vibration/wobble was back in full force yesterday. Starts right around 55moh and progressively increases until I reach 62-63mph and then starts to go away. Almost totally gone by 70. Seems to be most noticeable when the truck is cold. Also, I’m still getting that vibration in the gas pedal and floor board. That is more related to engine speed and load vs vehicle speed. Not sure how best to describe that one other than to say that it is more of a “buzz” like vibration.

Mine goes in on 12.26 to see if they can figure anything out.

I had mine in to my local dealership today.

I dropped it off at 10:30 and they called me around 3 saying it was ready. I picked it up and at first all seemed well but then it started again about 3/4 the way home. I called the dealership before I got home and they told me to come back.

When I got back, the service adviser spoke to me for a few minutes. He admitted that the tech balanced all tires, but that the tech mentioned he could still feel it.

I took the SA on a ride, and he told me he immediately felt the issue. It was weird, because the vibration would occur on what seemed like a curve, it would ramp up and come back down to nothing, and then back up again on a frequency of around 10-15 seconds. During this test, I had the normal cruise set to 60 and was on a nice smooth road that was level at all times. MDS never kicked on during the test for some reason, so that could be ruled out too.

The SA told me I would need to go back to my purchasing dealership to have them re-evaluate and warranty any tires out as necessary. I know this is kinda BS, but I wasn't in a fighting mood and I like the relationship I already have with them for future issues because my purchasing dealership is an hour away.

I've always hated Goodyear tires, but I am hoping they are the culprit.

For reference, this is the second time this was looked at. The first time, the dealership I purchased from replaced a tire under warranty that wouldn't road balance.

I have an appointment for tomorrow morning at 8 am in Orlando. Hoping to have this resolved once and for all, and I've got all day to make it happen.

I hope that you get a resolution tomorrow but I honestly don’t believe it’s the tires. Guys have gone to different brand tires and while it has helped, this issue is still there. Unfortunately this is becoming a more common issue from what my dealer has told me plus guys here on the forum.

Whatever it is, I just want it fixed. I'm wasting gas and time at this point. I PM'd RAM Cares last night as well. Luckily the dealership is already offering a rental if this goes from a few hours to a few days.

I hear you on that. My dealer had my truck 4 days the first time and fortunately gave me a loaner during that time. Would’ve been worth it had they found the issue. At this point I told them I’d wait till they know something for sure. I keep an eye on this post in hope that someone finds the problem. I hoped it had been bad tires but unfortunately that’s not the issue. Good luck and hopefully you’ll be able to report a fix for those of us having this issue.

Hi ddonia,
We're very sorry to hear this. I have sent you a private message in case you would like me to relay any additional information over to your Case Specialist.

Dealer is replacing 2 rims and 1 tire. They're putting me in a rental until the rims come tomorrow.

Very happy with the experience at this dealership (Greenway in Orlando). I didn't even have to ask for a loaner.

Which rims do you have? And did they say what was wrong with them?
Thanks

See below (example, not my truck). They're 22" and Goodyear I think.

Just said they were bad.

Just got my truck back an hour ago.

Tires balanced, and a 4 wheel alignment.

Still wobbles. So i am going to hold off on any more on this until after I get a quality set of Michelins to replace these Bridgestones.

Hopwfully I can get real use out of these and wear them down before 36,000 miles.

Never thought I'd ever say that about tires. But I just did.

Weird.

I’m starting to think that this issue is not tire related. I have Goodyear’s and have the same issue that you are having with Bridgestones. It also appears that it is not totally rim related either, as I have read posts from folks with all different rim sizes having the same issue. Something else is going on here, maybe chassis or suspension related? Weird and frustrating for such an expensive vehicle. My wobble is the most extreme when the truck is cold, are you seeing that same pattern?

Not really, happens most of the time, but the ambient temp of the world around me has been 50 and below.

I am thinking, if it can be narrowed to mainly 3.92 folks, its axle related...

Or if it can be narrowed to coil folks, its related to some suspension part.

If its all around the spectrum of owners, maybe a hub is off balance or warped in some way.

Maybe also an ill pressured shock tube, that when at that soeed range, grossly shows the imbalance.

Geez, idk.

Mine is a Bighorn crew 4x2 with the 3.21. 18 inch wheels and goodyear tires. It was in the 60s here and still does it. Worst from 62-69 but also does it around 45.

I’m a Limited with 3.92, air suspension and 22” wheels with Goodyears. I start to feel it around 55, it’s at its peak around 62, then starts to go away around 65-70. Today’s was really bad, felt like I was riding over rumble strips on the side of the road.

I had a vibration on my 2016 as well, seemed to be between 1700-2000 RPM if I remember correctly, could feel it in the gas pedal, steering wheel and a bit in the seat. Dealer kept re-balancing the tires while I told them that wasn't the issue as it was RPM dependent, not speed dependent. My opinion was that it was a resonance/harmonics issue, go figure when I put a CAI on my truck it went away, which wasn't what I put a CAI on for but I was pleasantly surprised.
