Slight vibration

For those having this vibration issue, I just got off the phone with the service writer where my truck was purchased. According to them, the owner of the dealership is having the same issue in his limited demo. They are bringing it in next week to tear it apart to find the cause. They said they have been informed to look at the cab mounting bushings. Not sure if I understand how that could cause it,but then again I’m no mechanic. Also in the time since I talked to them last week they’ve had two more people having the same issue stop in.
ANY update from this dealer?

Haven’t heard anything since before Christmas. I was actually going to give them a call tomorrow to get an update.

My truck is driving me bat **** crazy and I know its useless taking it to dealer until a resolve is found.

For whatever reason mine has been fine for over 3 weeks. Problem with that is nothing was fixed so what is causing it? I agree with not going to the dealer and that’s basically what I told my dealer. Until they know what is the cause and what the fix is, I didn’t want them tearing into my truck. I do honestly feel it’s something suspension related. Some sort of bushing or another component of the suspension. I keep hoping someone stumbles across the solution.

I am guessing there is no one solution fits all for this issue.

Those of you who have these symptoms, does your truck currently have Nexen or other 4-ply tires? Everything I've read so far is pretty much spot on for flat-spotted tires. Cold weather will make the tire less pliable and will keep the flat spot while driving until the tire warms up. Sitting overnight makes it worse because you parked it on warm tires, let it cool down, and now the tires keep that shape. Is the vibration more prevalent during the first drive of the next day?

Quick question to those that are experiencing this. At what mileage did you start feeling it? Was it from the beginning or like myself, right around 3000 miles? I’m just at over 4000 miles and mysteriously it hasn’t done it in 3 weeks. It’s just as smooth at any speed just like it was when I drove it off the lot. While I’m glad I haven’t experienced it in that time, it does make me wonder what it could’ve of been and will it return? Hopefully somewhere along the way there will be an answer.

I noticed a little vibration from the beginning, but I had not been driving a Ram for about 5 years and decided it was time for a Ram again . I let it go at first and mentioned it to the service manager and I thought maybe it was normal for a truck. But it didn't take long to decide it wasn't normal. I did not drive it very fast for at least 250 miles and then when I hit 70mph I was "bouncing" down the Interstate. (well, not really-but felt like it) I took it to my dealer and they did a road force balance of all 4 tires which they said all were out of balance. Well, that didn't do much for it. So took it again and they did another road force balance and decided one tire was bad and were going to replace it, but I was ready to dump those Nexen Roadians that came on my Big Horn. They worked with me and I now have Michelin's on it and so far it is much better. But, yes, mine was from the beginning. Still only have 700 miles on it.

I have 22" GY Eagles on mine. Mine is not only more prevalent during the first drive, that's the only time it happens. Had a little vibration this morning but interestingly I did not this evening coming home. Only difference was it was drizzling rain and the roads were wet.

Mine is not tire related in any way. It is 100% RPM related. I can duplicate the vibration ranging from 35 mph to 70 mph. Its between 1250 rpm and 1750 rpm the worse at the 1250 ish range.

If you were able to gradually accelerate at low RPM would you never experience any vibration?

For me juat the opposite. Low rpm loaded at low speeds its horrific. 35 mph light throttle is worse then highway.

I have been experimenting and have found something that severely reduces my vibration. Disable MDS and vibration is almost 100% gone. This can be done with any engine type by selecting "8" Gear limit. Shift like normal but when gear limit is selected MDS becomes disabled.

That sounds like a problem with the Active Tuned Mass Modules.

Going back through this post, I replied way back it is an engine vibration issue with my truck, not a wheel tire vibration. I just read how to disable MDS and bingo. Still playing around, but I believe I am close to narrowing down at least it being something I can show service manager when it goes to dealer.

Well if your vibration goes away after disabling the MDS I would definitely look at the ATMM. You can go underneath your truck and unplug them to see for sure. I would say if those are your issue, you’ll definitely be able to say for sure if they’re unplugged and it’s driving perfect.

Just remember that you will have some vibration when MDS engages as that's what the ATMMs are supposed to counter.

Had the Michelin Defender LTX tires installed yesterday. Great tire. Much quieter than the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza, especially on concrete pavement, and rides very nice and smooth. I'm looking forward to another batch of snow to play in.

After reading on here how much the Bridgestones are disliked, I am considering changing myself. We have the Bridgestones on my wife’s Grand Cherokee, and we’ve always felt they were smooth and quiet. Does anyone think these trucks are maybe too heavy for these tires?

I've had Bridgestone Duelers on my past Chevy Tahoes and an Equinox. They were all LOUD on concrete, did not perform well on snow, and changing them out made a huge difference in drivability and comfort. This is what led me to wanting to change the tires on the new truck right away. Where the rubber meets the road has a lot to do with how much I enjoy a vehicle.
