Slight vibration

I wonder how many of us that are experiencing this have the air ride vs the standard suspension. I guess my reason for this question is, I was talking to my friend that’s a mechanic and he was questioning me on the active air dam that comes down at I think 40 mph. His thought was if it’s not deploying completely or at all at times, that it would definitely cause a difference in the ride at speeds considerably because the suspension was tuned with this in mind. Any odd change in aerodynamics could cause the suspension to act weird and he said it could definitely cause a vibration at speeds. I think this the first year that ram offered this and so I’m sure it may have some bugs. Not sure if this means anything but just an idea that was thrown at me.
 
The dam working or not might affect efficiency, but it won't make the truck vibrate.
So you don’t think that is taken in account when they test for the aerodynamics? His thought is if you change wind flow it could have an effect on ride. I have a Harley that if you have the wrong size windscreen on the fairing it can cause major wind buffeting and vibrations in the steering. I guess I’m just trying to throw out anything at this point hoping something will solve the issue.
 
Folks in this thread have had vibration issues with and without the air ride. Air ride has no active air dam.

The whole thing just doesn’t make sense. Guys have changed tires and have had it improve some but it hasn’t gone totally away. Some have experienced and some haven’t. It was extremely windy here yesterday and going 55 mph and putting all the windows down amplified it by at least 50% and the buffeting was almost unbearable. Mine goes in on Monday for them to do a run out test on the tires and wheels and I’ll go from there I guess.
 
Hello, new owner two weeks in. Adding myself to the list with the vibration. Noticed on day 2 of ownership. Mine appears to be very slight compared to the folks on this thread; still noticeable. I have around 1,000 miles so still waiting for the truck to break-in before the first service. The abnormal vibration seems to happen around 55mph but not very noticeable at 70mph. Changing gears and tow/haul mode(to disable MDS) did not seem to affect the vibration. My truck was sitting on the lot, so I was thinking it was the tires flat spotted. But after reading this thread, that might be part, but not the whole issue..... I don't have a lot of miles, so still have some time to see how bad the vibration gets before the first service. Steering wheel is off-center so my alignment may be off as well as others have noted in this thread.
As noted on this thread, someone suggested rear suspension as a point of interest. I'm wondering if it's a harmonics like issue that Ford SuperDuty's and Dodge 2500s too with coil front axles. The "D" Wobble some refer too. When I noticed my vibration it was at 55 MPH also. After having the dealer force balance all 4 tires, it was worse. Second time, they found one bad tire and was going to replace it and then after another 3 rd trip, I just had them replace all 4 with Michelin Defenders LTX M/S tires. That was at about 654 miles and I am retired so don't do a lot of driving but at about 1150 miles the vibration seems to be gone. Before I replaced the tires my Ram was "bouncing" down the road at 74 MPH and it was scary. I have this posted previously on this thread, but just want to let you know that my vibration was pretty well solved. Lets put it this way, I don't feel anything at this point and checked at once up to about 84 MPH but that was passing on the Interstate and then right back down to 73 MPH which is about all the faster I drive. However my Ram had sit on the lot for over 6 months and it had 8 miles on it when I purchased it, so could have been flat spots from sitting there too long. Tires were Nexen and the Michelin tires was worth it except I think FCA to pay for the remaining 600 dollars-dealer took about 400 dollars off for the tires. But driving on unsafe tires is not worth it despite the money I may be out of for changing them. Okay--too long of update but just my experience to far.

As a former 3rd Gen 2500 owner, this is not even close to the death wobble feeling (from years of traumatic experiences from it).

This (2019 issue) is something you "could" live with if you really wanted to and still drive. The DW issue caused me not to drive my truck at all and when I did, avoid speeds over 40, potholes, bridge seems, high traffic areas, bad roads, normal roads, rain \ snow, railroad tracks, highways, etc.
 
So as an update my truck has been at the dealer since Monday. They did a run out on the tires and wheels and found nothing there. They’ve gone over the suspension and anything else that could be related. They did inform me that there is gonna be/already is a tsb for the ATMM. Their belief is there is a malfunction with those causing them to activate when they are not supposed to and that could be causing the shake/vibration at speeds above 50. Unfortunately it’s not throwing a fault code at this point and until it does their hands are tied. They drove a similarly equipped truck off the lot to feel the difference and the tech said he can definitely feel it. I guess that would explain why mine comes and goes if it’s an intermittent malfunction. Hopefully they are on to something with this. I guess time will tell.

He said that the malfunction is sending vibrations/shakes through the truck that those two thing are supposed to cancel out. The ANC is supposed to cancel out any outside noise, engine, wind or anything else from the outside. He said it definitely is rpm and load related which both of those were designed to eliminate. He said Ram is aware of the issue and they are hoping to have a software update sometime in March for both the ANC and the ATTMS. Hopefully this is accurate and hopefully a fix is in the future.

Had ours in for the vibration in the floor issue and just got it back. Dealership said they had to flash a module in the transmission. Vibration is still there and taking the truck back tomorrow. It sounds and feels like a resonator is vibrating against the floor between 1200 and 1500 rpm. Also the shift points have changed since flashing the transmission module. 2500 rpm at 80 mph is wound a little high...for an 8 speed.
 
In old school terms, it sounds and feels like a glass pack vibrating against the floor at specific rpms. Mine happens between 1200 and 1500 rpms. The droning is nuts..

An obvious way to diagnose this would be to disconnect the ATTMs and the ANC and then go for a 55 mph drive?

Then reconnect them and duplicate the same drive.

This should tell you pretty quickly if it's related to the ATTM and ANC systems.
 
I have the same problems with the 3.92 rear gear, mine is at about 26 mpr and rpm's about 1250 to 1500. I only have 450 miles on mine, this is my 2nd 2019 1500 the first had a cracked front transfer case in 2 places, and made a flopping noise. I had to return that one and got this one for a replacement, had same options just different color. I not sure what to do because its hard to explain to dealer. When they get the parts in for my recall I guess I'll they for a fix. If there is one.....
 
I had a 2014 GMC Denali and a bad case of the Chevy Shakes. Now that was bad. Ram is such a smoother ride. I’m glad that ram has (in theory) identifies the issue.
 
Wow. Seems a lot of people are having this problem. I too am experiencing vibrations at highway speeds, most notably at or around 60-65 MPH. I had the dealer check it out on Monday when I had it in for the two recalls (brake pedal and ground). He supposedly road tested it, re-balanced the tires, and road tested it again with "no problem". Yet... surprise surprise, still a vibration when I drove it home. Truck was purchased on January 2nd, 2019 and has 700 miles on it.
 
I was just reading on another forum that if you run in Tow/Haul mode, the MDS system will not activate. If it is a problem with the MDS and related equipment (including the vibration dampener), you should not feel the vibration at highway speeds. Its worth a try for troubleshooting purposes. EDIT: Ok, I just realized this was mentioned earlier in the thread. I'm still going to try it. Being able to duplicate a test and get the same results is just as important.
