Update. The dealership said they couldn't find anything wrong with the transmission so they can't do any repairs if there is no code. And the service manager or supervisor had a very rude attitude with me. After going through all this. This has been a horrible experience so far. I'll never buy a dodge again. I actually hope this issue happens again so I can build a lemon law case and get rid of this truck.

Got a new case number from FCA last week for my truck's shifting problem. Took it into the dealer yesterday to have them delve further into the problem. At my appointment, the dealer performed a system diagnosis and found no faults. They also found no required software updates. They did set the transmission adaptive and ran a quicklearn. They then drove and found no shifting problems. I too have yet to experience any shifting problems, but haven't run it since yesterday's trip home from the dealer.

Also, they did recommend that I turn the shift dial slower (i.e., from P to R, or P to D) to allow the module to react. (Gotta admit that I have found myself kinda spinning it, or quickly moving it, from P to D.) If turning the dial slower does prove to resolve this problem, I'd suggest that FCA build some physical resistance into the dial, to prevent owner's from slapping it into gear too fast.

Time for me to join the party. '19 Ram Laramie Sport, Crew Cab, 5.7L all the other usual fancy stuff! From 17 to 310 miles my truck did the "doesn't move in drive then lurches forward on throttle" event 5 or 6 times. I took it to my local dealership and they could not duplicate the problem but found Service Bulletin 2100219 and updated the TCM software to New Part Number 68360085AL. They were very helpful and understanding of concern that a brand new truck with an MSRP of $60,000 has a trans issue right out off the showroom floor. Fast forward about two weeks, took the truck on a road trip and experienced the same trouble twice in approximately 1500 miles of mostly highway (interstate) driving. Took it back to the dealership this past Tuesday and they kept the vehicle and provided me with a "service loaner". They are in contact with the FCA Technical Gurus, so far no resolution has been offered but they continue to be supportive and are keeping me posted on their progress (All dealerships should be like this). This truck is a replacement for a '19 Ram Laramie that apparently had the sunroof drain issue mentioned earlier in this thread, the entire carpet was soaked when it was delivered (unknown to me) and mold was growing up the side walls of the interior, under the seats and numerous spots on the carpet a few days later. The dealership here in NC took the truck back and swapped it for this one. This is my 6th Ram since 2005 and second 19 in as many months. I thinking I should have kept my 2005 QC Hemi or 2007 QC Cummins, they were both dead simple and pretty much bulletproof!

welcome to the club, has happened to me now about 12 times in 3 weeks. FCA dealer et al are clueless, guess they'll wait for a law suit or death.

Unfortunately, it happened again for the first time after the valve body replacement. I was driving around and stopped in front of our house (shifted to P). With the engine still running, I waited for the family to get in. I shifted to D, and the car would not go forward. Shifted back and forth slowly several times. Whipped out my camera and started recording as I did it a few more times, then slowly revved the engine until it harshly popped into gear. So, looks like the valve body replacement might not be a permanent fix.

This may or may not apply, but I was wondering if 5th generations have a manual over-ride. Since the gear selector is electronic, it may be faulty. It doesn't sound like a transmission problem to me since the problem came back after a transmission replacement.

Took it in yesterday, and the dealer kept it overnight. They couldn't find any codes and couldn't replicate the issue. They also said that a video doesn't help, because they need to replicate the issue while it's at the dealership or the can't fix it. None of the other videos on Youtube helped, and neither did this forum post. I called FCA as per the manual, and they called the dealership. FCA's response was that if the dealership couldn't find a problem, there must not be one. I've now started the Lemon Law process.

How clueless is the manufacturer at this point? So many of us are having this issue, it's been reported, and they still feign ignorance?

So frustrating! I spoke to Ramcares on the phone yesterday about this and another issue with my Limited. They are willing to help, and I suggest that you at least give them a try. Last Thursday I sent them an email and they called Friday, I missed the call and called them back, couldn't reach the caller and in turn got another call yesterday. I was on the phone about 20 minutes with them. They do depend on the dealer to do the legwork, but MAYBE with their support things can go your way.

There wasn't code for my truck either thats why you need to create a case with the FCA and also take a video when it happens to show them. Intermittent problems stink.

This is 50 shades of BS. Is there a different dealer you can take it to?

FCA won't help other than telling me to take it to another dealer. They advised videos are not proof, and if they can't replicate it at the dealership, it can't be fixed since it isn't throwing any codes.

I've got an appointment this Saturday with a different dealer. Hopefully they can do something even if they can't replicate it.

What number are you guys calling to get cases and FCA help? The number I called in the book (866-726-4636) sent me to a person who was no help at all. She basically just called the dealer, and said since they can're replicate it, they can't fix it, videos be damned. I didn't get a case number or anything from them.

Edit: Found the link a page or two back (https://fcacommunity.force.com/RAM/s/knowledge). I was able to open a case and they're contacting the new dealership ahead of my scheduled appointment.

I need a little input on whether or not there is a real repair for this problem... About 5 out of 10 times i put this truck in Drive, it does NOTHING. Nothing clicks and it acts as if its still in Park. Only when i slowly depress the pedal does it pop into gear and lunge forward. This is not good nor safe. Ive 500 miles on the truck already and am about ready to return it if there is no real fix for this issue. Open to opinions and input! Thanks, Doug
I have a brand new Laramie, 1200 miles so far, never once had an issue. This morning my daughter opened the passenger door to get in, step didn’t come down. Weird. Closed the door, reopened and voila. I wrote it off. We drove about a mile or so, I stop at a light and when it turns green, I accelerate and it just revs. Dash says shift to P and the light over the D on the shifter is flashing!?! It was in drive, I mean I got all the way there. Scary. Ghosts in the machine? I’ll monitor, but that’s the stuff that could get you killed if I’d pulled out into a left turn and then couldn’t move.

Thank you. After I left the original dealership a day or so ago, they said they had another customer come in with the exact same problem and video as well. FCA got involved, and now the original dealership has my truck for a week to see if they can get this diagnosed.

Good news.... sounds like you'll be getting a new tranny like I did...My truck is finally running like it should have...also look for some assistance from the FCA such as covering you payment or getting an extended warranty.

New member here. A month ago picked up my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie and a week after discovered this gear shifter issue. So far it happened 3 times and in all cases I was able to "fix" it by putting the truck into reverse and waiting for a second or two until I could hear a noticeable click (without stepping on the gas). That's the only way for me to get it to change gears once it gets stuck like that. Hope this helps someone.

Create a case with the FCA.....document it. This is a common issue and you need to have the dealer look at it.
