Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

Yea I wish I had the fabrication skills to make my own mounting bracket to attach the 3rd strap. Really wanted the 33gal for my NC to NY trips 2x a year and still might do it if no issues pop up with the trucks only having 2 straps.

you could do a third strap with minimal fabrication skills, and no welding if needed

Can you explain? How would you attach to the frame without welding?

Yes please explain cause I'd happily tackle it if I didn't have to weld!

I would like to know as well, no big deal to have mounting rail fabricated but then having to drop tank and have someone come and weld is a pain in the a**. (I don't weld and don't want to learn on my truck). I guess you could bolt the mounting rail up but I'm not crazy about that idea, just seems like a hack job IMO.

I’ll sketch up what I mean when I have a few mins. You would be bolting the bracket on if you don’t want to weld, but could be done clean.

I was at my dealer today to try to get the computer updated to reflect the 33 gallon tank. Unsurprisingly, they couldn’t do it and said they could not find a sales code to add. Has anyone successfully done it and have any info I can try ?
They need to get intouch with fca to gave that sales code added specifically for vin. That was done with mine33EBFCC1-1380-4C6A-9CB1-9EDCC91DCA88.jpeg

the person no longer work there all i remember then saying was they contact fca engineers in auburn hills to have them add the sales code to my vin

My total after picking it up today was $1620. I probably could have saved a few hundred if I'd taken it to another dealer, but I paid for convenience as well.

The DTE is not correct, so I suspect they'll have to flash it.

Yes but knowing you’ve got that extra must be such a great feeling.

Here’s the pic of the bracket needed for the third tank strap on the larger tank. My truck did not have this bracket.
My truck doesn’t have the place where the third bracket goes

Any update with your DTE ?

I picked up a sheet of 3003 Bright Aluminum Tread Plate 60" x 120"
to make an AUX tank for the bed. I have the 33 GAL tank already
installed. Ordered a replacement Filler Neck to have two Bungs
welded on. One for Fuel Transfer and one for a Vent Line. The Transfer
Pump I got will do 12L per Minute.

There are DOT, EPA and the Trucks Computer to deal with.
EPA Laws mandate that you have to pull from the top of the tank.
(in case a line ruptures the tank will not empty)
DOT States that you have to use OEM or better Parts.
You can not run a drain strait to the main tank. ( If the sensor
or gauge does not move, the computer will throw a Error Code)
It also needs to be a closed system so the tanks need to have a
vent line between each other.

For every 60"W x 20" H x 1" D you have, equals 5.2 Gallons.
So a 6" Deep Tank would be an extra 31.2 Gallons.

A 5'-7" bed only allows a 4.5 inch deep tank before you hit the
Wheel Wells. The 6'-4" bed gives you 14.5 inches, So a 14" deep
tank would calculate out to 72 Gallons.

On my 2008 Big Horn, I used the bottom 8" of the tool box and created
an AUX tank of 36 Gallons. Then I had the 26 Gallons in the main.
62 Gallons with the HEMI got me about 950 Mile Range on the Highway.

I found a couple of places that will fab-to-specs for whatever you want. Just haven't made up my mind to go that route. I only tow about 200-250 when I snowbird, and so far haven't had a problem running too low.

No way am I going to buy a 23 or 26 gallon tank from the FS to. 33 will allow me much more freedom on my long runs. Being able to minimize stops is a good thing health wise.

Fuel pump now down to $191.52+freight&tax from moparpartsinc. Just placed my order for everything.

Did you ever get a chance to take a pic or sketch what you came up with?
