Rear window surround crack.

I am day 2+ to tweaking my seat to where my back likes it.
"that glass guy is a big boy" really effed up my seat...
If this ever again becomes an issue, I will pull the fuse for the seat.
Other than that, pretty good service by the Fitz mall in Lexington Park, MD. :)
I looooove my memory seats :D
 
400 miles, my Ram already has the crack. No water ingress (yet) at least.

Don't wait, have it replaced.

Does that actually fix it (new part number) or are they just putting the same window back in (which will crack again)?

Also, is there a TSB or anything for this yet? You would think with so many reports that they would have it documented by now.

I hope so, mine is in right now. Honestly, I have my doubts. If this one cracks and/or leaks, I will request a non slider be installed.
 
In this video, you can clearly see where the sealant is put on the window frame and where the sliding channel is that is cracking. If the sealant bed is properly prepared, cracks in the slider frame will not be the cause of a leak.

Does the crack go all the way into the window track or is it just on the outside trim? If it goes into the track I could see how it could still leak through (it would be bypassing the sealant at that point) but I'm not sure what the windows look like under the cracked trim piece (how the moving window contacts the non-moving part).
 
I guess that brings up the question of what is even causing the crack to begin with? Is the cab shifting/twisting and putting stress on that area? Whatever is causing the crack may also be (eventually) damaging the sealant leading to the leak into the crack as you say. Otherwise we would have to assume that both the sealant and plastics are failing for unrelated reasons (seems less likely though).
 
we need someone to take a picture of the failed frame so we can get an idea on whats happening.

I'm assuming it's related to not being able to handle the stress. I'm an active member on the Silverado 2019 forums as well, there is a very big issue with rear window leaks on the 2019/2020 Silverado, which seems to have pinned the problem on a stress to the rear window causing it to leak over time. However, 2nd most mentioned is not enough sealant during the build.

What I'm not sure of on the RAM is if the interior crack on the plastic piece is caused by an internal frame crack, which allows the leak, or if not it's simply caused by not enough sealant.
 
I have cracks on both sides of the slider now (just a few days ago it was only on one side, I even have a "before" picture). Will take an "after" picture once lighting is better. No water ingress from the rain yet. Tempted to do a leak test with a water hose but I don't know if I want to push it lol.

That's irritating you have to deal with this issue on brand new truck. It's weird how some don't have them and some do, and the production months are all over the place. I can only figure production batches from the supplier is the reason for it.

Just a note - Here is the Silverado/Sierra Forum for 2019 and newer trucks regarding their rear window leak. It's a rather large thread now.

I would suggest those with issues here to see if there are any commonalities, it wouldn't surprise me if GM and FCA are using the same supplier (though not the same exact windows).

Well everything now is put on with robotic arms. It can't tell if the window is missing any sealer. The sealing gun could have a airpocket in the gun itself and not put any sealer in a small spot that can eventually start leaking.

After reading on this form I decided to go out and check my brand new 2019 Ram 1500 sport. It only has 1800 kms. (Canadian) 2 cracks on either side of the sliding rear window. I've only had this truck 3 weeks. Called the service dept and bringing it in tomorrow at 1130am. Get off the phone and head to the gas station, notice my gas cover slightly ajar. Open it up the plastic push pin is broken I'm very sad I hope this is not a sign of things to come. Build date on the truck is 0818. If I could return this truck for another one I'd seriously consider it.

Absolutely, a lot of sealing is also done by robot, and it's documented that some water leaks at the front of the truck is caused by incorrectly sealed (or not enough sealant) used at the factory. I think there are batches of less than ideal manufacturing going on, and FCA would rather have it fixed at the dealer level than slow down production.

A co-worker has a 20 Silverado with the slider and the windows, other than slightly different shape, look identical. Surely these are sourced, not an in-house product.

I'm been on the GM forums longer than the RAM forums, and based on what I've seen so far, I'm pretty sure they are made by the same vendors. I believe there are two primary suppliers who make these sliders and both GM and FCA use them.

Ford has a very different window design for their sliders, when I had my 2015 F150, I don't remember anyone complaining about water leaks from the back window. So far on my Rebel, I haven't had any leaks and my interior window trim has no cracks. I plan on keeping a careful eye on it.

This video is for the 4th gen Ram. Are the 5th gen Rams using the same window?
