Was looking around for a free method to remove the electronic speed governor, but there isn’t one. While I was looking around I noticed no one knows know to remove the limiter. So here ya go this is America we can do what we want with our trucks.
On older trucks, pre 2015 you can buy a handheld tuner like a Diablo sport tuner and get full access to the ECM, TCM, and PCM to add an engine tune, transmission tune, and can remove the speed limiter, along with change lots of other things. Almost any handheld tuner will work, just make sure you read what you’re getting and it works for your truck. You can also use a software and laptop, like HP tuners which would be cheaper, you just need to buy the credits and know how to tune the car with the laptop yourself. I had a 2014 5.7 lone star 2wd with 3.21 gears on a 91 tune, transmission tune, and speed limiter delete with the Diablo sport tuner and got it up to 142mph (I have a video because my friend was filming in the car, but it won’t let me attach it. If you know how I can attach it here let me know and I will).
For 2015+ all ram trucks have locked PCMs (Power Control module) meaning you have to either send your pcm in to be unlocked by a company and then sent back (usually about a week, and truck is not drivable). I don’t know any company that would do this for our trucks, but I haven’t looked into it either. You could also do the hp tuners option with the laptop, but again you need to know how to use their software, what to change and know what your doing. Or you can buy an unlocked pcm and tuner from a company like Diablo sport (I liked them last on my last truck and never had any issues). You buy the tuner on the website, once it arrives you fill out the form for a one time pcm unlock, they send you their unlocked pcm and your good to go. You can tune and tweak/remove everything you could on a pre 2015. Here is the link for the pcm swap and tuner for 2019+ ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi:
Keep in mind if you have warranty and show up to the dealership with a different pcm this will 100% void your warranty. If you have warranty and still want you do it you could swap the pcms before going to dealership for work, takes like 10 minutes. I still have warranty on my 24 so I haven’t done this but this is how you do it, I’m sure other companies offer pcm swaps with tuners, but Diablo sport has some of the highest hp pre loaded tunes, along with a great product that worked well for me for 5 years. Never had any issues, and issues are far and few between. You’re looking at about $700 and on these new trucks with e-torque if you have that will theoretically do 152-156mph with the tune and speed limit delete. These calculations are assuming straight perfect road with amazing weather and no wind.
And for all the people saying “it’s a truck why would you want to remove the limiter”. Or “there’s never a reason you need to go above 105mph”. Because we want to so just stfu, this is America. We paid for our 40-100k trucks and we can use them how we want. If we want to spend $700 to be able to use all the power we paid for that’s our choice. If there’s no cops and you’re on an empty road who gives a ****. The people who are complaining never go outside or are on the highways anyway. Anyway that’s the ball knowledge, hope this helps, give it a thumbs up so it’ll go to the top and people will see it.
