Price negotiated from MSRP

This thread was super helpful for me in getting a deal that was very easy to negotiate and saved me a lot of $! I picked up my truck, 1500 Limited, Max Steel yesterday (Ordered February 5.)
When I ordered I had used Silent Bob’s recommendations in these threads, contacted multiple dealers and then worked with a very small dealership in Oregon that was eager for my business, competitive in pricing and made it all smooth. I had affiliate pricing by joining Access Fund and then they discounted more from there.
MSRP $66370
Invoice $60869
Agreed upon price at order $58200
$500 Chrysler capital rebate
$1000 off Ram direct offer email so final price before state DMV/registration fees: $56700
14.6% off MSRP, 6.9% off invoice
I went with the 0% for 72 months
The dealership gave me $400 more than most recent offer from Vroom on my trade-in (Carvana isn’t available where I live)
My amateur advice: use Silent Bob’s templates, contact multiple dealers, join Access Fund for $50 to at least get 1% below invoice.
What dealer in Oregon?

Working on a deal where the MSRP / Total Price on sticker is $53,365. Does $47,500 + tax, tags and title sound reasonable? Total out the door would be around $50,500. This price also assumes I use their 0% 72-month financing.

Thanks!

Funny, I reached out to them, they didn’t want to play ball so I went elsewhere.
It’s an interesting game for sure. There are others I reached out to that people had good experiences with that weren’t responsive to me.

im looking to buy a limited in oregon too, what dealers did you find reasonable?

Thanks to all the great advice on this forum (especially from @Silent Bob), I just placed my order for a Limited from Phillip at Bud Clary in Washington.

MSRP: $70,930
Price before rebates: $61,000
0% financing for 72 months confirmed
Likely rebates: $500 Chrysler cash, $1k PennFed

It'll probably cost around $1200 to have the truck shipped to me in Los Angeles.

The process was completely painless. I emailed my summary from Build & Price, Phillip emailed back a quote. We chatted on the phone, then he sent a deposit form for me to sign and a build sheet. I hate haggling and the price seemed fair. What do you guys think?

Phillip is great. I highly recommend him. Recently I got a quote on two builds from him and as you describe the process is painless. He is very prompt also. I already knew about PenFed and have an account with them, but he even told me about that.

Ultimately I think I'm going to go with a local dealer (if I can talk the wife into it!) because they are within $900 on a Laramie build and $1200 on a Limited, factoring in sales tax benefits of trading in, as compared to selling to Carvana and buying from him. Then I'd likely have to ship which would eat up that difference and then some, plus I would have to rent a vehicle until the new truck arrives (or hope the Carvana offer would be about the same in two or three months as now). They (Phillip) can arrange delivery to a local-to-customer dealer sometimes but it is complicated and requires a huge down payment.

But for those close to WA state, or who don't have a trade where you would take a big sales tax hit (for me it was $2500), give Phillip a chance to earn your business.

No, that seems high, even in this market. Especially if it is a Big Horn (which at that MSRP I'm guessing it is). Look in Silent Bob's footer on his posts for the link to where he talks about how to get the best price.

This really is dependent on the dealer. I signed up for TreadLightly also. My cost was more than 1% under invoice. The dealer took $500 off for the TreadLightly discount. They did not have to do this but this is how they operate.

Tread Lightly is 1% below invoice plus $75. If the dealer is charging more he is ripping you off. The factory does not require that a dealer give you the affiliate price but they strongly encourage it. These days even the affiliate pricing is not a good deal anymore. The absolute smallest discount I would accept would be 5% below invoice. The affiliate pricing is good for someone who does not live near one of the volume dealers and does not want to put in any effort for a good deal.

No one answered #3 (I don't think?) so I'll do that for you.

The air cushion suspension is standard on the Limited, optional on the Laramie.
The Limited has projector LED headlights, while the Laramie has reflector LEDs.
The Limited offers ventilated rear seats for your passengers. You cannot get ventilated rears on the Laramie.
The Limited uses an ornate stitching in the leather seats and door trim. Ornamental only.
The Limited's seats are full leather, while the Laramie uses a suede-like alcantara textile at the seams between primary surfaces and bolsters. Personally, I like the look of this material on my Laramie.
The Limited has carpet inserts in the rubber floor mats. They can be removed for winter, or inserted for a little nicer look and comfort if you take off your shoes.
The Limited had little covers over the coin storage and cup holders in the center console. They tilt out of the way if you want access.
The Limited has "Limited" branding on the console lid and in the dash display.
The Limited has wood trim on the steering wheel and doors that is striped. It's another aesthetic, and maybe you like it, maybe you don't care.
The wheels are different. Premium 22" wheels are still an upgrade though. If you're going to order, maybe see if the aftermarket has something you like better. You may save some money.

Also,
The air suspension you mentioned above is a $1800 option on Laramie
Limited has HEMI standard for 2021 models ($1795 option on Laramie)
Limited has spray-in bed liner standard (~$500 additional on Laramie aftermarket) or you can get the BUG
Limited has power running boards standard ($1000 option on Laramie)
Limited has front/rear parksense assist ($495 on Laramie)
Limited has front/rear wheelhouse liners ($195 option on Laramie for rear liners)
Limited has 20" rims standard
Limited has automatic high beams
Limited has 12" Uconnect screen standard (~$1400 option on Laramie)
Limited has under seat storage standard ($125 option on Laramie)
Limited has LED lights in the bed standard (Laramie would need to get BUG for $995 but that includes bed step and spray bed liner)

And there are several options no longer available on Laramie (360 cameras, ACC, lane keep assist, park assist, ped emergency braking....)
I am sure I missed some stuff but that should be the bulk of it

I went thru the exercise of pricing out both Laramie and Limited in February and bought a Limited

If you are in Oregon definitely get a price from Phillip. If your local dealers will not meet his price you can pick up the truck in your neighboring state. The contact information can be found in the post listed in my signature below.
He'll also ship to your door on a transporter, for about $1 per mile.

For me, and this was end of January/beginning of February I got more response and willing to negotiate from mostly smaller dealers. Wilson Corvallis, Power in Newport, Cottage Grove, and then also the one in Vancouver WA, I think Tonkin. I wasn’t aware of Bud Clary (as Silent Bob mentioned) up by Seattle at the time otherwise I probably would’ve contacted him too. Overall I am happy with my deal and loving the truck so far!

11% off is not considered a good deal.

Right...other than the air suspension, I left out anything you could also get on the Laramie. I wanted to list primarily the things that were absolutely unique about the Limited.

Greetings and hello from a first time truck owner... I ordered a loaded Ram 1500 Limited 6’4” Black with night package and everything except the sunroof, split tailgate, and tow package. I did get the electronic breaking by itself. Sticker was $72,300 and Phillip took it down to $59,500. This included a thousand dollars in rebates. No one else on this forum came close. 7 California dealers called, 1 visited, and only 1 call back from any of them. Phillip reached out same day; very patient and walked me through the build and now I am waiting. Put my down March 01, 2021 and truck still in “D” status not built but he told me up front that it might be 8-12 weeks given the chip shortage and my build.

Super happy with Phillip and a huge shout out to Silent Bob for helping me with the process. Also everyone who gave me advice here on this forum a big Thank you! When I get the call it’s in, the wife and I are flying up to Washington to pick it up and taking a weeks vacation driving it home.

I am one big happy camper waiting for Xmas to arrive. Will send pics and updates as we go. Going to get her fitted with the Diamondback HD bed cover and a Tuff Stuff Alpha RTT.

Phillip ( [email protected] ) and Silent Bob thanks for everything,

The New Guy...

Ditto.

I listed my experience upstream with [email protected] and, of course, @Silent Bob and his thread/advice.

About 4 years ago, I worked with an auto purchasing broker. He gave me a data-dump of advice for buying a vehicle. It saved me over 10 grand. The advice @Silent Bob has provided tracks almost perfectly with that of my friend the broker.

Combine that advice with a salesman like Phillip, and you get a winning combination. I was stunned that my local guys didn't even respond to my purchase email. Shrug. I'm looking forward to meeting Phillip...almost as much as I'm anticipating meeting my new truck. ;)

Yeah, it'll be a drive, but it's roadtrip/vacation. I'll hit national parks, breweries, friends and family, and the bourbon trail. What's not to like?

I'm curious, did you ask what his shipping rate was ($/mi)?
