Price negotiated from MSRP

My trim is a Rebel. Aaron clarified and said we can lock in both the rebates and financing now...and figure out what is more advantageous at delivery. But, either way, it sounds like you sacrifice the 0% if you want to take the max rebate. At that point, it becomes strictly a math problem to factor in the interest rates, down payment amount, and current rebates at delivery. What I appreciate is that Aaron seems to be able to ensure the protection so that when the truck arrives, we can chose the best financial option.

He also says we might be looking at a 10-13 week from order to delivery. I just really would like mine in time for spring in order to take it on the NJ beaches.
Thanks for the clarification. I really have enjoyed the buying process with Aaron and I dont think I have ever said that about a car buying experience! Yeah he said with the chip shortage that time frame is what we are looking. I believe though for my build since i dont have any of the blind side package or other safety packages that require the chips that are on shortage that i might get mine sooner. who knows but the deal i got i am very happy with and will wait a little for it.

Sold Order Consumer Incentive Protection

I have just had a dealer confirmation that you can definitely lock in current incentives, including Chrysler Capital 0% financing, on factory orders. Some salesman may not know this but it is a Chrysler (FCA) program. It does require some paperwork be done by the dealership. When your truck arrives you can take whatever is better. Either the incentives from the month you ordered or the month you truck arrives. You can not mix and match however. Keep in mind that your dealer must fill out the proper paperwork to lock in. This is great news.

Here is an old 2017 post from a dealer on a Jeep forum. Once again though, I have current confirmation of incentive protection.

Price Protection
Price Protection is available on sold orders to protect the customer from price increases which occur between the vehicle order date and the KZ (invoice) date. A claim for Price Protection must meet the following criteria:
The sale must be documented by a signed and dated buyer’s order which details the agreed upon selling price at the time of order and secured by a customer’s deposit with receipts at time of order. Dealer must print and retain the Order Confirmation
Ordered new for immediate production, or selected from dealer stock orders not yet invoiced, and delivered to the original customer

Must be delivered within 14 days of the date the vehicle is received at the dealership (KZX date)
Must be delivered to the customer whose name is on the factory order and subsequent factory invoice at the documented agreed upon price at time of order
You must claim Price Protection by inserting the price protection program number on the Exception Claim Entry Screen when reporting the sale. Program numbers are in the Pricing Announcements and stored in DealerCONNECT eFiles under Sales.
Price Protection claims are made via "DealerCONNECT > Sales > Incentives Claims Processing > Incentive Claim Entry > Exception Claim Entry"
Sold Order Consumer Incentive Protection
This program protection may be available when a vehicle is sold or ordered for a customer during an incentive program and that program has expired by the time the vehicle is physically delivered. This protection is available unless stated otherwise in the Official Program Rules. A claim for sold order consumer incentive protection must meet the following criteria:
The sale must be documented by a signed and dated buyer’s order, during the program period, which details the agreed upon selling price, and secured by a customer’s deposit with receipts, at time of order. Dealer must print and retain the Order Confirmation
Ordered new for immediate production, or selected from in-transit dealer stock, and delivered to the original customer
Must be delivered within 14 days of the date the vehicle is received at the dealership (known as X date)
Must be delivered to the customer for whom the order was placed and at the originally agreed upon price at the time of order
All consumer incentives must be documented as being passed on to the customer on the buyer’s order as described in the Required Incentive Disclosure/Documentation Section
If the vehicle is delivered after the end date of the eligible program, the customer will have the choice of either the consumer programs available at the time of customer order or consumer programs at the time of vehicle delivery, but not both
The qualification date is the date the dealership and customer agree on the purchase or lease of a vehicle. The purchase/lease terms, conditions, and price of the vehicle must be clearly documented via a completed signed buyer’s order and proof of deposit/payment on the date of sale. This date can override the delivery date for incentive payment. This date protects the customer and/or dealership for any eligible incentives available at the time of sale (excluding objective-based and stair step programs). Qualification Date is also known as Sale Date
Incentive Protection claims are made by entering the Program ID and Qualification Date (in addition to delivery date) on the Exception Claim screen found via "DealerCONNECT > Sales > Incentives Claims Processing > Incentive Claim Entry > Exception Claim Entry"
Thanks for posting this! Just ordered and with the kind of wait times we're looking at until delivery, this is great info to know.

Picked up my truck yesterday from Craig at Koons.
MSRP was $74470,
invoice was $69632.
The discount was 6.5% below invoice (tread lightly and the $1000 for using Chrysler Capitol) which came out to $65105.
I got $4000 in rebates which brought the price down to $61105 (I had $1000 bonus cash code, $1500 rebate, $500 CC, $500 Military, and $500 Presidents day cash.)
Koons dealer fee is high at $899
So I ended up at a little over $62000 before TTL (~17%)

I will say I was a little concerned going w/ Koons. I've seen a lot of great comments about Craig, but their finance department has not gotten the greatest of marks. In the stories i've read they seem dismissive, disrespectful and bullying. I didn't get any of that yesterday. Leo (FM) did try to sell me on the warranty, but they went straight to the MOPAR warranty, no 3rd party BS. He couldn't match Zeiglers, but got within a couple hundred so I went ahead and bought it from them. I literally had the quote up on my phone before I walked in and that helped.

I'm sure I could have gotten a slightly better deal through Mark Dodge, but I live within spitting distance of Koons, so I saved on airfare, gas and the mileage I would put on the truck just getting back so I think it all came out about even.

I did go kind of crazy w/ the options. About the only thing I didn't get was the trailer tow group.

Hey all, so I may have a potential deal on Monday, but wanted to run it by the experts here first. 2021 Ram Big Horn Quad Cab with Premium Lighting and Sunroof. MSRP is $50,990. With $5000 down, they can do $587/mo for 72 months, 0% interest all tax and fees included. Leaves me financing $42,264. No payment until June, so that gives me time to save up for some larger first payments to get it paid down quicker. Shall I bite? Monroney ---> https://www.chrysler.com/hostd/wind...5.1705553917.1614133249-1572129014.1614133249

Is it weird for a dealer to not want to talk numbers on an in-transit truck? He mentioned the incentives changing before it arrives in the next 2 weeks, sure, but can't he craft a deal and leave that portion blank for now? I just don't get dealers these days, I have had so much trouble getting one to sell me a dang truck. I would be tempted to go order a truck through Aaron and be done with it if blind spot monitoring was an available option, but it appears you can't get it now.

In not shocking fashion the price went up almost $2k today on their website and I am not shocked at all. Figured they would mess with the price somehow since he wouldn't talk numbers till 3/1. Sigh, looks like I may be back to the drawing board again. Guess I will see what he says Monday.

You need to break this down differently. What is the dollar amount the dealer is giving, before incentives or rebates? Any other "mandatory" fees or add-ons?

Then let us know what rebates and incentives you qualify for, including with and without taking 0% financing.

Don't include mandatory govt fees or tax, as those vary by state.

Then we can give you a better idea if it is a good deal.

That doesn't seem like a very big dealer discount unless you have tons of tax and dealer fees and things included in the amount being financed. If you are planning on trying to pay it off sooner, see about what rebates/incentives you could get instead of 0%. You are only about 7% off MSRP

Yeah definitely need more details like others have said. on face value based on the numbers you gave (which we need a breakdown of) you are only looking at the dealer coming off MSRP $3726 plus adding your $5000 that gets us to your price of 42,264 and that is only 7% which translates into a terrible deal.

So these numbers aren't EXACT, but based on my memory from our phone conversations. I was going to ask for a itemized sheet before I did anything Monday, and it was spur of the moment stopping in with my friend after I just sold my other car, but wanted to see the truck because it's been a very difficult task finding a quad cab with premium lighting and a sunroof. But here it goes, and like I said, not EXACT:

50,990 MSRP x 13.5(ish)% percent off (this is with 0% financing, so discounts are not as much). Say $6,883 off=

$43,850 adjusted price
+$2,646 tax
+$500(ish) admin and non tax fees
--------------------------------
=$47,252
-$5,000 down
--------------------------------
=$42,252 / 72 months = $587/mo

Thanks to this forum, I went and ordered my Laramie from Aaron at Mark Dodge. After weeks of busting my a** negotiation with dealers via text, email, and phone calls nothing came close to Aarons price. Thank you to Silent Bob and the rest of the crew here.

Now the waiting game begins for my new Black Beauty and first Ram in the family.

Well if its the exact truck that you are wanting and dont want to wait and order one exactly how you want it then you are the only one who can determine if it is a good deal for YOU. based on strict numbers though I would say that it is not that good of a deal. You could most likely save yourself another 5% at minimum if you shop around a little and are willing to wait. but then again if you need to do the 0% financing then its probably not bad like yoi said the rebates wont be as good with that rate. let us know what you do and post a pic if you get it

Thanks. I don't know how everyone gets such great deals around here. I've been bouncing between three different dealers for the past week, and they're all basically like "take it or leave it". Based off another dealer's quote on a very similar truck (which since sold), I believe this dealer should be able to knock the payment down another $15/month pretty easily. The truck is very tempting, because it's exactly what I want, but if it's a bad deal, I'll just hold off. That's why I came here first for advice.

Not trying to be mean, but if you are looking at monthly payment instead of price you are the type of customer dealers love. Those type of customers pay for the manager's vacations.

On a Big Horn you should be at 11% off MSRP dealer discount, minimum, before incentives or rebates. Their $500 dealer fee is on the high side, and about 1% MSRP of the truck price.

A lot of dealers don't want to sell trucks that bad in this sellers market. You may either have to pay more than the truck is really worth, or get the truck from a dealer farther away (and depending on how far, fly and drive or get it shipped).

Don't Ever Negotiate Based on Monthly Payments

The biggest mistake when negotiating for a car is to focus on the monthly payments. There's nothing that will make a car salesman salivate more than a "payment buyer" - that's what they call these suckers.
Surprisingly, many car shoppers will go to a dealership and the first thing they'll ask a salesman is "Can I get this car for $500 per month?", or "Which cars can I get for $500 per month". These poor saps have no idea what's in store for them - mainly being ripped off to the extreme.

The truth is, car dealerships don't make much money on the sale of a new vehicle. Their profit usually comes from financing, trade-ins, and add-ons such as warranties and service contracts. If you're only focused on the monthly payment, the dealer can adjust the purchase price, the interest, terms on the financing, and the trade-in allowance to get you the exact monthly payment you're looking for.

The problem is, you'll get ripped off. It's easy for a dealer to get you practically any monthly payment you want - all they have to do is extend the car loan or low-ball you on the trade-in, or any number of other tricks.

Always remember one thing: You need to separate the negotiation of the car price from all the other related transactions. If you have a trade-in, you need to negotiate that separately. If you take out a car loan, you need to negotiate that separately. If you want add-ons, you need to negotiate that separately - you get the idea.

If you separate everything into its own negotiation, there's no room for the dealer to play shell games. While you should have a good idea of what your budget is, do not discuss monthly payments with a car dealer - EVER!
