Price negotiated from MSRP

Has anyone just gone to the Ramtrucks website and built a truck there? I'm getting some good prices, and I can get the equipment I want (Ramboxes, why are they so hard to find?).
Read my post above. Right now, with Employee Pricing, you can build almost any RAM 1500 you want and end up with a built sheet with a great price. But unless you can somehow find your specific build existing on a dealer's lot somewhere (highly unlikely) or compromise heavily on a build the dealer selected, you are most likely not going to be able to get the price shown on the RAM website at your local dealer unless you're lucky enough to live near a high-volume dealer.

So, don't get too excited by the RAM website if you plan to build out and order your truck. It will not qualify for EP.

We all probably have gone there at one point in time. The thing is you can price things out all day but, good luck finding exactly what you want at a dealership and no way are you going to be able order a factory build and get it in time to take advantage of the EPP.
 
With my Build, All the trucks on the Dealer's lots only had at most, 14 of the 26 options
that I wanted. They had other options that I did not want, but the price was about the same
as if I ordered one. So I now have my built Laramie. The Only things I would change if it
was available, Would be an 8' bed and the 50 gallon fuel tank. That would make it a 22ft
long truck.

I built mine as well and then went to dealers with my build for best price till i found koons and criswell.....i specifically dont want air suspension or the power steps because of the potential issues...i passed up a limited for a great deal but those two options are a dealbreaker.....i get mine tomorrow and cant wait....silver laramie nigh edi with rambox and mft and everything else but the trailer tow package..i just got the trailer brakes. I personally do not like the ride on the air suspension on any level and heard of nothing but issues on them after a few years...i plan on keeping this truck a while.

Can someone direct me to zieglers website and discount for this forum....i didnt see that

Congrats on the truck! Very similar to my package except I also have power running boards and air suspension both of which I love so far.

The air ride on the Limited 1500s is some of the nicest out there.
Feels like a luxury SUV.

I plan to keep my Limited for a minimum of 6-8 years. The extended warranty will cover any issues.
Speaking of which I'm surprised you passed on those, but still went with the sunroof and ramboxes.
Both of which have known issues or leaking, and warping.

I had power steps and air suspension for 2 years and not a single issue...what are you afraid of? I have heard very little, if any, issues with either option you mentioned!
 
This is very helpful, Silent Bob. I want to but a maxed out 2021 Limited Longhorn 1500 ($75K +) this month to my exact specs with no compromise. Obviously will have to order. Your 17.2% below MSRP would be wonderful. May I ask where you got that price? I'm just outside Austin, Texas but can fly and drive.

This is what I'm seeing in Northern New England. I'm in my 60's and I've purchased more vehicles than I can remember. I'm a tough negotiator and I can usually get a great deal. Not so with RAM dealers here. The tactic that they all use around my area is to offer one single quote, which is usually invoice or close to it. All bargaining ends there. If you bring up Koons or Criswell's prices, or other great prices being reported here, they all cry fake news, it can't be done, we all pay the same invoice price. If you then show them the proof, they get angry, or pretend to get angry, and then cut off all further communication so you can't negotiate or even talk to them anymore. To protect their high profits, they would all rather lose a sale rather than have someone report that they can get better a price in this area.

Sure, I can buy from Koons or Criswell but I prefer to buy locally to help support jobs in my community. And then you have to deal with getting the vehicle serviced. The one time I didn't buy locally, I had a dealer refuse to help when I had an issue because I didn't buy from them. I had to complain to the mfgr which did no good and then had to travel 90 miles to a different dealer each time I had something go wrong. And then I couldn't get a loaner vehicle if the problem took longer than a day to fix because that was reserved primarily for people who purchased from the servicing dealer.

Buying a RAM is the biggest hassle I've had with purchasing any vehicle. If you can get a great deal locally, count yourself very lucky, and support the dealer that gave you a great price because a lot of us have no such opportunity.
1. Go to your local dealer to figure out what you want.
2. Contact some of the dealers on this site who offer reasonable prices by email.
3. Contact 10 - 15 of the nearest dealers by email.
4. Give your original local dealer the chance to meet or beat your best offer by contacting Sales Manager or General Manager.
5. If they will not match give other dealers the opportunity to beat your lowest price.

Other than the first step try and do everything by email if possible. Regular salesmen are the least likely to give you a good price. Try Sales, Internet, or Fleet Managers.

I was finding it hard to get any dealer down to what I felt I could get OTD, but as soon as a dealer out of town quoted me 22% off MSRP (on the first request for OTD quote) I knew I had some leverage with local dealerships, they really don't won't to lose a sale to an out of town dealer. If your in central Florida, DM I can give you some more detail if you want.
 
I'm glad I bought my truck last April. I've noticed record low inventories because of covid-19. Prices have remained high with very little rebates here in Minnesota. Glad I didn't wait until now to buy like I was originally going to do. The dealership I bought from had 45 Bighorns last April. Now they only got 15 !! Crazy low inventory. No night editions left at all !
I looked casually in April through June but prices were too high and starting in May inventory low with the plants fully idle. In March pricing was much better.

I started looking seriously for Labor Day even though I had not intended to buy until about now because my 2018 F150 was showing worth $7k more than pre-covid. In mid Sept they added another $500 rebate on Laramie. Ended up buying from a volume dealer 2.5 hours away who gave me what I wanted on my old truck, and 12% off MSRP dealer discount.

If I had waited, I would get at least $2-4k less on my old truck (KBB was $35k then and I got $35.5k with local dealers mostly around $34,500 but at best 10% off MSRP dealer discount on the new truck). Now KBB has my old truck trade at $31,500. I got 22% off MSRP on the new truck, and would be 19 to 20% with current offers.

So I timed it perfect.
 
The air ride on the Limited 1500s is some of the nicest out there.

I had power steps and air suspension for 2 years and not a single issue...what are you afraid of? I have heard very little, if any, issues with either option you mentioned!

Ran into a guy with 2018 ram in a parking lot and he told me his air susp froze in the winter and he wouldnt get it again....heard that from a few folks...also was working with a dealer in michigan and he was pretty straight with me. Told me the air susp present the most issues and tend to blow up after three years...also said the power steps tend to get saggy after a while...he said they fixed the rambox issue and they dont warp anymore..as for the roofs leaking i read someplace here that there is a gasket alignment that needs to be adjusted if thats an issue.... since i plan on keeping it a while the air is a no brainer for me. Besides i drove my brothers limited with all the differrnt air levels and found it too floaty..hated it actually...much.prefer the regular ride for my taste.

They 100% did not fix the warping ram box issue. Still happens. Even after they fix them/repaint them.

The sagging steps issue is with AMP aftermarket steps. I've never heard of an issue with the factory steps. Searched and couldn't find a previous complaint either.

Some people also had their headliner destroyed with the leaking sunroofs.

I test drove Rams with and without air suspension.
It's definitely a lot smoother and softer ride on air.

But to each their own. As long as you love it.
 
The games are beginning. I ordered from Koon's on 9/24. The truck has been delivered to the dealership and I will pick it up in a couple of weeks.

I emailed Craig to verify the rebates that I qualify for ($1500 Bonus Cash, $1000 Conquest and $500 CCAP with 0% for 60 months).

Lo and behold, suddenly as of December (so Craig says), 0% for 60 months cannot be combined with the 6.5% off of FWP price I was quoted.

To be clear, Craig is saying that 0% for 60 months is available, but he will not honor the 6.5% off invoice with that financing rate. I asked what the percentage discount would be if I were to choose the 0% financing rate. He said he'd have to figure it out (I'm waiting for that number).

I also mentioned I'd consider paying cash or financing through PenFed. When I mentioned PenFed, Craig said he could handle that whole process and there would be no need for me to apply for the loan directly through PenFed. This also sounds fishy because there will be no way for me to compare the rate PenFed would offer me directly vs. the PenFed rate offered if applying through the dealership.

I hate games.


EDIT: The price with CCAP 0% for 60 months (and the associated $500 rebate) goes from the quoted FWP - 6.5% to FWP - 3.15%. If it had been disclosed to me at time of ordering that the quoted 6.5% discount from invoice would potentially not be available with promotional financing rates, I probably would not have ordered from Koon's, which is a 12+ hour drive from my home.

The originally quoted FWP - 6.5% will only be honored with CCAP rates of other than 0%, outside financing or a cash sale.

NJ and NY dealers all suck and wouldnt come close to invoice to even match koons or criswell....they would rather pass up a sale if they cant make some money.....dont forget theres a 2k holdback they are getting regardless....plenty of room for them to bargain.....i even found some that balked at affiliate pricing...so screw them.
I'm at 2.4 below invoicing for factory order right now.... Basically had two dealers offer FFP but this was because I joined Tread Lightly and got the FCA Control number (in about week in half)... You right won't get anything for mentioning the affiliation but you will once you get the control number.... Then I got from the one dealer half hold back for coming in for them to beat the other(several dealers have said the other half FCA takes with control).

Deal not done it will be interesting when it comes in...
a) can I argue Dec Ep + Nov national rebates since though I put deposit in on 11/27 build... On von sheet order has 12/1
b) will Nov national rebates+ Jan regional rebates be better than Dec Ep and Jan regional rebates?
I have feeling Jan rebates will be a bust since new year and Dec Ep goes till 1/4/2021 and just likey delivery before February (worse month car sales)
C) will ram website coupon increase last week of the year?

I found though the 6% below invoice for out of state is good you have to remember they add 900 dealer free compared to 400 in NJ... Dealers are re-adding the destination free of 1695, cost to overnight and drive to these locations... Then dealing with defunctional NJ dmv during covid to redo tags, title, ect... To much a hassle for reality of only $500-708 additional of deal I got.

Hey, SB. I appreciate the recommendations. But to be be clear, Dillon is in ID; Criswell in MD; Koons in VA; and Lakeland in FL. Do I have that right? I looked at the Criswell website and they make factory orders seem pretty easy...they offer 12% off MSRP + Incentives. I guess whether or not that is a good deal would depend on the Incentives.

Great truck! For pop up cash, my dealer told me the Dec. incentives is actually 2500. Here is what they sent to me. Did you ask them if this $2500 cash bonus is also available? or $1500 pop up cash bonus is something else?

Always have your financing figured out before going to the dealership. That way they have to beat your best deal. Call FCA about the zero percent financing offer to see if you qualify. If you do then find out what incentive they are applying that will not let you take advantage of that rate. They should have told you if they are applying anything that prevents you from using any rebates/incentives you qualify for.

FYI - Always make sure the discount the dealer is offering does not include any incentives or rebates you can get for yourself. Get it in writing.
