I'm in the market for a 2021 RAM 1500 so I've been following this thread with great interest. I've even compiled a detailed spreadsheet of many of the deals reported here. It shows that for the 2021's people have been getting anywhere from around 10% to 18%+ off MSRP before any incentives. The average seems to be around 14%. These are great deals and very encouraging. So as an informed buyer, I took this info and went off looking to get something similar at my local RAM dealers.
Well, I've been having no luck at all other than pissing them all off. From the experiences I'm having, this thread reads like pure fiction. The best I could get was around 7.8% off of MSRP before incentives.
Here's I best deal I got from several local dealers:
MSRP: $61,850
Dealer Discount: $4,825
Sub-Total: $57,025 (7.8% off of MSRP and the invoice price)
Incentives: $2,000
Total: $55,025
This pales in comparison to the deals you guys report. When I bring this up with the dealers, they tell me that the prices listed here are impossible and that people here may be exaggerating or lying (their words, not mine). They tell me they can't do better than invoice (which is about 7.8% off MSRP). They say, convincingly, that all they'll make on the sale is the manufacturer holdback which is about $1400, which they say is a fair profit for them. Then they effectively tell me to get lost if I want the prices you guys get because they outright refuse to sell me a truck at anything below invoice. They don't appear to be lying, some were quite passionate about being open and honest and they all told the same story. So, this is been very confusing.
Well obviously, I certainly don't think anyone here is making this stuff up. So, the big question is how on earth are you getting these amazing prices? It seems as if your dealers are selling you these trucks at a considerable loss. If they truly paid the invoice price and the manufacturer hold back is truly only $1400, then how can they possibly sell you these trucks at prices thousands of dollars below that, as have been commonly reported here? There has to be an explanation.
I need to reconcile what my dealers are telling with what's being reported here before I can purchase a truck. I need to know if they're telling me the truth or lying to make more money. If what the dealers say and what's being reported here are both true, then I need to know how it can be possible for so many of you to get these seemingly impossible deals. What information am I missing?
I would appreciate any insight here, especially from anyone who knows the dealership business first hand or knows reasonably well what's going on.
