Add me to the list. My driver's side power folding mirror has failed on my 2019 Laramie. I noticed it always made a click or two when folding in/out since the truck was new. It also seemed to fold in too tight and would crush up against the driver window. I should have taken it in to the dealer back then, but I hardly ever use the power folding feature. Now it has failed completely and the pivot point is loose. I'm guessing the gears are stripped out.
I'm having the same issue on my 2019 Laramie and I can't find any fixes. The dealership has requested I take her in and drop off for them to checkout but no promises. I've had 2 service techs look at it and each time, they were able to reproduce the clicking sound and see how the motor keeps running and the mirrors hits the windows. Last month when I brought it to their attention, they said they adjusted it??? As soon as my vehicle was returned to me, I tested and it continue to do the same thing. Now it's worse and the mirrors move with the wind. I just hit 11k miles :-(

Having a similar problem on a used 2019 Big Horn I just purchased. Bought the truck from out of state and didn’t think to test the power mirrors before I started the drive back home and of course the first time I use them the passenger side mirror bumps the window three times and then when I open it back up there was a grinding popping noise and now the mirror doesn’t lock in place and doesn’t even fold in when I press the button anymore. When I bought the truck it was still over 1,000 miles under the warranty but as I was driving back from out of state by the time I would’ve gotten back it would be about 200 miles over the warranty so I called the dealer near where I live and explained my situation and was told even though it broke before the warranty since I would be over it by the time I got back they couldn’t do anything for me. The tailgate also doesn’t open for some reason no matter how many times I hit the unlock button on the door or fob which is also annoying.
Looks like Gruven Parts now has the metal gears for the 5th gen mirrors so looks like I’ll be having to go that route since the dealer won’t help. Hopefully the tailgate is an easy fix too but pretty unimpressed that the parts don’t function properly after less than 2 years.

Hey everyone,
I haven’t heard anyone having any problems with the power folding mirrors but there always has to be the first truck.
Parked in a tight spot today so I decided to fold in the mirrors but the driver side mirror never decided to stop trying to fold in. You could hear gears grinding, the window being smacked and it eventually just gives up after a minute. Tried it a couple different times and it’s getting worse. I have an app with the dealer tomorrow.
This is now the 3rd trip to the dealer in 3 months for problems like these but I knew what I was getting into but was hoping Ram got this little stuff figured out.
Anyways figured I should start a thread on it knowing I won’t be the only one.
I had the LS mirror replaced under warranty for the same issue. Now the RS same problem. Appt Fri to have it replaced. Hopefully Ram will update the mirror. Other than that it has been a fantastic truck!

I have had the same issues with my mirrors . The passenger side went first, kept trying to go past its stop, replaced under warranty . While they were showing me the mirror was fixed the driver side failed . So that one got replaced. My dealer has them in stock that tells you something. My 2015 never had a problem 2019 not so lucky.

Update for my mirror's after multiple visits to the dealer and they took video of them, they are finally replacing them. Only took 3 1/2 months. ;)

Went through the broken mirror thing a few months back. Dealer replaced both no problem.
Both were working fine until I went through the automatic car wash once. Folded the mirrors in, but the brushes caught them and flipped them forward. Big problem. Read up on it and you will see that the gears are cheap plastic, and by manually flipping the mirrors forward, it strips the gears.
There is an outfit that makes a repair part out of metal, but a little out of my list on things I want to tear apart.
So, end game is I NEVER take the truck through an automatic car wash.

Hmmm on my 10 day old 2021 Rebel I noticed the mirror folds all the way in and hits the door glass.

Kathryn,

I am have the same problem on my 2019 limited but I have 50,000 miles on the truck. I don’t think I should be paying to repair a part that has folded in and out 50 times, maybe, since I’ve owned the truck. What is the appropriate solution given I’m outside of the bumper to bumper?

Got this from another RAM forum.

Its all due to a plastic gear in there which breaks and its not hard to fix it.

GruvenParts makes the replacement metal gears for this unit. So when its off warranty you can just replace the plastic gear in there with a metal 1. Here's a link, hope it helps some others to save $$, these mirrors are really expensive.

hope that helps someone save some $$

I have the same problem with my 2019 Limited. I replaced the left side, and now I have to replace the right side. Truck has 58k on it. My 2016 never had one issue with the mirrors, and it had 167K. For a 65 Thousand dollar truck, they really should do better quality control from their vendors. I hope they get this fixed, because, I do not want to keep buying mirrors.

Add me to the list of folks with broken power mirrors. My mirrors have always clicked and bounced around, but they have not had issues syncing or resetting to the correct position until today. Yesterday I was driving on the freeway and the driver side mirror flopped in between where it should be locked and the window. I pushed the button once to bring the mirrors in, then again to pop them out. It looked like it was back to normal. Last night, I folded the mirrors in, and when I unfolded them this morning, the passenger side started moving after the driver side. The driver side mirror clicked and popped and went all the way facing outward away from the truck with the back of the mirror against the hood. It will now only lock in that position or folded the other way flat against the driver's side window. I've tried resetting the mirror every which way I could find, but it will not stay in the position it needs to be in to drive and make the cameras work properly. I can manually move the mirror to the right place, but it does not lock into place or stay there while driving. I have a 2019 Limited, still under warranty, with only 16800 or so miles. I guess I need to go fight with the service department now.

The video for the GM looks like more of a project than I would feel comfortable tackling on my own. Anyone here completed this install for the 5th Gen Ram? The website says the RAM drive unit is not as complex as previous models, but you have to cut apart the top and bottom of the mirror then glue it back together when finished.

I'm glad someone has something to address the root issue. If only FCA would...

I had my drivers side mirror replaced about a year ago, now my passenger side is starting to make make a noise now, I'm hoping it breaks in the next few thousand miles as I have about 4K left on my warranty.

If they are as fragile as it seems, maybe it just needs a little "nudge"

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie that had 96,000 miles when I purchased from a Ram dealer. I found it very odd the build date was 12/17 and there was no original sales date, no registration information, no service history on the Carfax report. I had the Ram dealer run a warranty history and nothing at all. No PDI, No Service history. This truck has a 5.7 Stop & Go engine. I noticed the Alternator was new so I knew someone had replaced the Alternator. When inspecting this truck I kept finding pieces Black & White Camo Wrap. The dealer had purchased the truck from a Manufacturer Auction in Tampa, FL. I ask the dealer to show me the title they obtained when they purchased the truck. The dealer did not have a title they had the original MSO, the truck had never been titled. I did purchase the truck and have been very happy with the truck. I kept doing research and this evidently was one of the first trucks built and it was wrapped and put on the road as a test vehicle. That is how it got so many miles on it in a short period of time.
I said all this because I now have the power folding mirror problem. My passenger mirror make no noise at all now. The driver's mirror makes popping noise and does not power fold properly. My truck now has over 104,000 miles so without any service history I have no idea if the mirrors have been replaced in the past. Today while I was driving the driver's mirror moved out of it's normal position and naturally when it did this all of a sudden I could not see the left view of the road behind me. This could have been a serous issue had I decided to move into the left lane and a car was coming up from the rear of me. The issue the mirrors are giving so many people is a very serious (Safety Issue). l have been service manager at 3 dealers, but it was 1996 since I was service manager and a lot of electronic and options have changed on vehicles. With so many people having issues I am hoping that Chrysler will come out with a program that replaces these mirrors. I know I am way out of warranty, but with a (Safety Issue) this should be a recall. I am now an Insurance Vehicle Damage Appraiser. When inspecting damaged vehicles I am always looking for any possible manufacturer defect or anyhing that may have contributed to accident. for possible subrogation. The mirror issue would possibly be a contributing factor in an accident. I feel this issue is a Liability nightmare for either Chrysler and/or the manufacturer of the mirror. This could also possibly become a Class Action Law Suit.
Well enough of my soapbox.
I really do love my truck. I do feel like Ram beats all other make truck hands down.

It's the plastic gears. There is an outfit that makes metal replacements. Also, I have seen used ones on EBAY for reasonable prices.

Has anyone taken apart the 5th gen standard (non-tow) power fold mirror drive unit ?

Its a sealed unit that is plastic welded together, you have to cut the halves apart. This isnt an issue but then there is a white plastic band within the case halves that is very brittle and thin. Once it snaps, the unit will over extend.

Ive put in metal gears and new motor from GruvenParts but once this band snaps, it over extends. HAs anyonye figured out how to fix that part of the unit ? GruvenParts makes the gears/motors for this to fix that issue but it seems RAM has build in this trap so even if you do replace the gears and motors on the 5th gen units, it will over extend. Maybe we can put in a hard stop ?

This isnt an issue on the previous gen units as those are basically the same as the GM units. But RAM went to an all plastic unit on this 5th gen thats a real turd.
