Power folding mirror broken

Just noticed my passenger side mirror works intermittently. When it doesn’t work it feels loose. I can fold it in without any resistance. It’s going in next week to replace the upper console to fix map light and tailgate release button issue, so hopefully it’s just a loose connection somewhere and they can fix it. Fingers crossed.

I too have this issue. I only hand wash my car, however, my dealer uses the drive thru car wash at their place when I get it serviced. I have to go in for an oil change, I will bring it up to them. Drivers side as well.

I dropped my Laramie off at the dealership yesterday for an issue with my passenger-side power folding mirror. The mirror will fold in without issue but when it starts folding out I see rapid movement back and forth and I hear loud clicking noises.

Mine passenger side started doing this about a month ago, too. It worked fine one day, and got off "track" the next.

My dealership said they will replace it. But need to order it. Not in a big rush. Wouldn’t use it in the winter anyway

Just fyi, there is a good video on the drive unit and how to replace the plastic cheap gear and motor in the drive unit with the metal gear.

ITs for a GM truck but the drive unit is similar and you see exactly how the drive unit comes apart. Actually getting to the drive unit is ofcourse different, wish someone would post a video of how to dismantle the mirror to get to the drive unit.

And i love the Ram Cares guy on here ... just so you know, if you have so much as a SCRATCH on the frame of that mirror, Ram will deny your warranty claim by saying you hit something with the mirror. take a look at the video once he gets the drive unit apart and you will see how pathetic the tiny plastic gear is. You can break these by manually folding a few times. Go to a Ram dealer and start manually folding their truck mirrors and watch how fast the guys come running to stop you. Get the metal gears and better motors in there and the mirror is fine again.

FYI i inquired about this with gruvenparts the other day, they asked people to just contact them directly if having issues with this 5th gen ram power fold mirror.

ITs a different assembly than the 4th gen so requires all new tooling to produce the metal versions. I let them know people were having issues, they will add the new metal gears and motors here when done :

My passenger mirror had to be replaced by dealer a couple of weeks ago. It would fold out but not back in.
Driver's side is still be fine for now, but concerned about this when warranty runs out...

I had this happen on a Gen 4. The technique described in post #5 fixed it.

I also wacked the passenger side mirror pulling into the garage once as the driver’s side closed, but the passenger side was frozen. I didn’t notice it until I heard the crunch. Just a heads-up for those in colder climates. They can freeze up.

I had this happen to my driver's side mirror. My dealer said the gears were broken and replaced the whole driver side mirror under warranty. These mirrors should be better built than this. I am disappointed that the mirror broke after only 25,000 miles. I have had the car wash push the mirror in or out and always pushed the button to reset the mirrors. I guess I will have to reset the mirror by manually from now on.

Agreed. Mine broke after 11k miles and also replaced under warranty. Not too thrilled about this once warranty expires.

My driver side mirror tries to go in and out, but can't pull it off. Is it a gear issue-is there some way to fix it?

Not good news for me that they are finicky- I need to fold in my mirrors to get my truck in the garage. I’ll keep pushing that magic button - so far, so good.

Nov. 24, 2 years of ownership, always push the button and fold in mirrors. No problem, but it is not driven daily, but it has 18,600 miles.

Went to leave for work yesterday and when I went to fold my mirrors out the drivers side moved but just seemed to be very loose. I hit the button to bring them in and it wouldn't move. When I left work to come home I tried to bring the mirrors in again and they worked like normal. Is there not a limit switch in the mirrors that should prevent these mirrors from traveling so far? Seems like that would be a simple solution along with stronger gears.

I had to get my driver's aside mirror replaced back in July. It would click and pop when it reached the folded out position.

Last week, my passenger side mirror started doing the same thing.

Takes two trips to the dealer to get them replaced under warranty (one for them to verify the problem/order the new mirror and one to install).

Not really happy about it but there isn't anything I can do about it.

In the same boat, both of mine are doing it. They have to get conformation from FCA, then order the parts, then back to dealer to get them replaced(hopefully).
