Thanks so much! So I can probably, conservatively, plan for 1850-1900# payload. Taking our hefty hineys into account with a 13% tongue wt for the TT means I can safely look at 10k# gvwr TT...Schweet!

Thanks DD... I can read the posts in Hdram forum, but if I click on a posted pic (to actually be able to read the label) I'm directed to log in before I can see it.

I anticipate staying <= 31' for a new trailer (I'm just not comfortable maneuvering anything bigger) - but I've found the same floor plan from several mfr's and the GVWR ranges from 7,500 to 10,000# depending on mfr. With 1500# tongue weight, I'm gonna be good with the 2500's payload from both of the examples you kindly relayed - so happy camper here! Now I just have to wait out the full 5th gen-i-fication of the 2500 and give enough time for any bugs to be worked out (eg: I bought my 2019 1500 in July 2019 - and seems a lot of people in the first wave in 2018 had no end of troubles...mine has been pretty darned flawless!)

New Ram owner. This is my first post.
I had a heck of a time finding a Laramie 6-seater with Etorque. Nevermind trying to find one without a bunch of heavy stuff, like skid plates, rails, and sunroofs. In any case, I'm really happy with the truck so far! It runs so smooth. I plan to use it to tow my travel trailer and utility trailer, yet it's the nicest plushest interior I've ever had. 1623 lbs. payload, and I need every pound because my kids are growing an inch every month.

Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 with group 1 package, 5'7" bed, 5.7L with Etorque, wheelhouse liners, 6 seats, trailer brake, rubber floor mats, 3.92 ratio.

Hi all. I'm a new member and this is my first post.

New truck owner here and I've discovered this forum and thread recently. I picked up a 2020 Limited 1500 with the "Black Appearance" package which includes the 22" gloss black wheels and 285/45R22XL Goodyear Eagle Touring . My options include: Bed Utility, Limited Level 1 pkg, Pano sun roof, 3.92, anit-spin, 5.7 hemi + eTorque, Rambox w/ cargo divider, brake controller, factory Tri–Fold Tonneau Cover (came with appearance pkg) and that beefed up multi-function tailgate and I'm at a depressing 1061 lbs on the yellow loading sticker.

I bought this with the intention for towing a ~6,000 travel trailer that I'm still in the market for buying. Most of the dry hitch weights of the trailers I'm considering ( Lance 24 series) are between 550 and 665 lbs. With just my wife and me and nothing else we're pushing that top 7100 GVWR limit.

If I remove the tonneau and the rambox divider and put them in the back of the trailer I gain back nearly 50 lbs. Moving the truck spare tire to the trailer gives me back another 90 lbs. Now I'm considering at buying a set of lighter wheels/tires. I see on Tire Rack They have a 20"x9" Granite Alloy that's only 25lbs. Looking at most the the 275/55R20 all seasons that fit that tire they are also a at least 5 lbs lighter than the 22" Eagles I have now and have a higher load index to boot (2,892 lbs over the 2,601 lbs on the 22"'s). I haven't weighed the OEM 22x9 wheels yet, but I'm guessing there at least 45 lbs. I can see gaining back another 90 lbs of payload by switching over to the new set of 20"s

Would there be any issues with switching out the 22's for 20's? I'm looking to give me some headroom for keeping it legal and safe with a trailer that conforms.

Your tow limit is 13900 GCWR. So, the towing MAX number is pretty bogus...it only allows for 300lbs if cargo( listed as 150 for driver and 150 for passenger)

So to find the max trailer you have to know what your truck and contents will weigh with hitch installed. Then figure your tongue weight. Subtract all that from 13900 and you can find the max weight.

Basically, your max tow would be GCWR-base weight-300lbs-70 lbs-10% tongue =MAX tow.

For any one wondering, the 13900 is because he has 3.21 gears. A 3.92 equipped truck would be 17000.

In your case...7100-1617=5483

13900-5483 = 8417

That means you trailer, cargo, passengers, and hitch can weigh a max of 8417 lbs.

So for easy math...say your family and cargo weigh 500lbs. Hitch 70lbs so now we are down to 7846

We will say 700lb tongue weight, so a 7000 GVWR camper. Note I said GVWR. Not the base weight. The total capacity weight.

Thank you to you and every else on this thread who have provided information to help a novice like me from making the common mistake of going off the generic payload and towing numbers.

So I am guessing my Limited build will be around 1,250 lbs.

If anyone can give me your best guess on my build, that would help, there have been a few close, but not exact.
