I have a 2021 with 33 gallon gas tank. I had the filler neck replaced under warranty about 2 months ago. I still have the problem but it only occurs when it's freezing cold outside. Filled up today with 50 degree weather with no issue. Whatever the deal is, mine is temperature related.

As far as a fuel gauge reading empty when installing a new tank,
heck yes it's going to read empty untill someone fills it.
So unless the mechanis took it to a station and put in so certain amount it would read empty.
I would expect that they would only pour a 2-3 gallon cans worth when finished just to get it out of the bay.

Don't worry bud, I told them to fill back to half which they did. Guess what? Gauge still says empty. Someone screwed up during the installation

Just a guess but I would say that the fuel tank sensor is part of the fuel pump inside the tank. I see no reason why they wouldn't make it all one unit.

Then in that case bud they should have taken it right back into the shop.

This must be either the worst dealer or I just have bad luck. After the fuel tank was replaced, the gas gauge no longer worked. I made the appointment to get it fixed for today. Last week the check engine light comes on. I pulled a P4056 code which is typically an Evap small leak code which I assumed was related to them changing the tank. I drop truck off today and they call and tell me the fuel sensor is bad and needs to be replaced and the engine light is related to a broken air dam wire and module. Huh? That's not what my code reader pulled. In any case they are replacing the fuel tank sensor and air dam parts under warranty, but I am getting annoyed with the dealer and/or the fact the truck keeps having things break. I've only had it a few months and it's got 13,000mi on it. I think the dealer service dept is incompetent. How does a fuel sensor break on a brand new tank or do they transfer the old sensor over from the old tank?

99% of the time the fuel tank sensor is just transferred to new tank

dealer called and told me the air dam was removed and the wire that connects to it had a piece of tape over it. I told them I bought the truck used from a reputable dealer. Previous owner must have removed the air dam, but have no idea why. They said it wouldn't be covered under warranty and it's $500 to add it back. I said no thanks.

If they check your vehicle in using the pod. They will have a list of codes when you brought it in.

I would just solder the wires back together and put some heat shrink around it...I'm sure their $500 included a new air dam and wiring harness.

This just gets more comical with each visit to the dealer. Dropped off truck yesterday to get the fuel sending unit fixed. Naturally they couldn't fix it and had to keep it overnight. Was told it would be ready this morning. I call to get an update and they say they went to put gas in it and the pump is clicking off again which was the original reason in getting the new gas tank put in. They said they have their 45 yr service tech looking into it and offered a rental. I told them forget it. I want my truck today and I'll go to a different dealer to get this fixed. Unreal. This should have been a simple fix. So while the gas gauge now supposedly works, the original pump click problem is present.

Lol, now they just called and said the problem is a bad fuel pump and it's not driveable. No kidding! I told them that assuming you transferred over the functional pump from the old tank, how do you explain it's not functional in the new tank? They say new tank requires new pump, but new pump is supposedly defective. Huh? It drove fine for last week except fuel gauge not working, so I'm to believe the pump just suddenly went bad. They say new pump and sending unit is all one unit and corporate knows there are defective pumps being sent out but they don't know which ones are defective till installed.

We now have "California" nozzles at costco in Georgia. They are more finicky than normal nozzles. I've never had a problem with my 33 gal tank.

The costco nozzles are the worst. I have to hold the handle or it cuts out. Normal nozzles at other stations are fine.

When they replaced my tank and filler neck there was a new fuel pump as part of the new tank so maybe yours could have been defective out of the box. My dealer also said there is a sensor inside that assembly that if not working properly causes the tank to trip the gas nozzle when being filled. I asked if they can fix that sensor if it fails and they said no its part of the fuel pump/sending unit assembly.

Got truck today. Now another check engine light and P0154 code comes up. Can't believe they returned the truck to me after all this with a cel. I drove away and pulled the code when I got home. I figured it'll go off and had something to do when they put the new fuel pump in, but interestingly my truck won't go into Eco mode now. If it's truly a lean condition as noted by the code definition, would this prevent eco mode from working?

Just filled up at a costco with 26 gallons only shut off when full.

hopefully my2022 has this fixed.
