New info on Gas tank fueling issue

I’ve had this issue, but mainly with Costco nozzles, and when I have less than a quarter of fuel left in the tank.

Really, I have not paid attention to the size of the tanks in threads with people having this issue.

I have a 33 gallon and occasionally have an issue. Like I said, I just back it out a little and it takes care of it.

I wonder if tank size has anything to do with it. Are the fill necks the same in all tanks?
NE body remember the old Mustangs and Mavericks, with the flat against the back end gas tank fills. Boy, run them pumps on high on those and U were guaranteed to get a octane treatment, just a saying. Try backing off and a lil slower. ALSO, suggest after 1st click, just round up and stop fueling. Consistently trying to get the level to the top U will be sending raw fuel into yer evap canister, just saying. ALL IMHO...

What is a 'California' nozzle?
From their website;
In most states, Costco has transitioned to a new, safer “drip less” nozzle that features an interlock boot on the nozzle spout. The new nozzles will only dispense fuel if the boot is securely seated on the vehicle fuel port. This feature improves both safety and the environment, which is why we’ve made the change. The nozzle also prevents spills, drips, and “burps” that can release gas into the environment. Or worse, onto our members.

The new nozzles make it more difficult to “top off,” or continuing to pump after the nozzle automatically shuts off. Topping off is prohibited in most states because it is a primary cause of gas station spills.

Is anyone with a 2021 still having this issue?

It was awful with my 2019 but never had a single occurrence in my 2021. I figured it was part of the "1st year of a new body style" issue list.
I have this issue in my 2021, but only at certain gas stations.

I have this issue with my 2021 Bighorn. It doesn't happen at every pump, but more often than not I have to fanagle is a little bit after a gallon or so. It is pretty annoying, especially now that it is getting colder out. I would like to get this fixed if there is a new design. For those of you who have gotten it fixed, is it a pretty easy process? I have never done anything with a vehicle warranty before.

Also, I have a 23 gallon tank and I have to fill it up like every 3rd day. Do you think if they would replace it, I could pay the difference for a bigger tank?
If the dealer is doing a warranty job, they will only install the same tank back into the car. If you want a bigger tank, you will have to take it to either an outside shop or pay the dealer seperately (come back at a later date) and pay full price for the tank (parts and labor).

This is normally the policy for any warranty repair. Replace with the same part that it came with. However, exceptions can be made if you are good friends with the service manager. ;)

I'm having this problem now too. Started a while back. At first, it wasn't too bad. Now it's gotten terrible. I can't even get a 1/4 gallon in before it clicks. This is not just a pump spout position or rate of flow thing. I have tried all sorts of combinations of positions and flow rates.

I finally took it into the dealership. It's there now and I'm waiting to hear the prognosis. I will let the service advisor know about the new tank design.

Interesting... I been having this issue with my 23gal as well. Think if i complain enough they'll upgrade me to a 33 when they order the "replacement"? :sneaky:

I have the issue where my gas tank doesn’t fill up past the F at most gas stations. At this point I’m annoyed but just leaving it be. I have the 23gal on a 21. Looking to upgrade in the future to a 33gal.

I also got a 23gal, i would love a 33gal but i cant seem to find anyone willing to do it at all lol

It’s not difficult from what I’ve read. I have a few things ordered but need the pump and gas tank itself which are the most expensive things.

Yeah it doesnt seem hard either from the vids i been watching, worst come to worst i may just tackle it myself. I wonder if the weight of the tank would down my fuel economy a bit hmm.

70 pounds for the extra 10 gallons won’t do much in MPG’s

Do you happen to have all the parts # ? i might start ordering things later today after work

This is news to me. I have never run into this issue with my 19 Laramie.

I priced everything out on BAM about a year ago. I believe the parts cost (not including shipping) was in the 8-9 hundred dollar range. I lost interest when I decided to trade that truck in for one with the 33 gallon tank.

The most expensive part is the fuel pump at 400 dollars.
lve been thinking the same. Switching to an eco diesel that has a 33 gallon tank.
