Brand new 2019 1500 major electrical issues

All happened under 2000 miles

1 backup camera has green lines running through the screen like a dropped flat screen tv fixes itself then appears again

2 engine died while turning through an intersection into traffic ... had to fully stop shift to park turn off turn on and drive away while almost getting rear ended .

3 USB ports work 80% of the time other 20% ... nothing no power

4 engine died when car wash boot grabbed the truck while in neutral and parking brake came on couldn’t disengage until park and restart

5 rolling wheel switch next to lights knob that dims and brightens cab lights (not dash lights) does nothing no response on the lighting inside the cab
I never owned a new vehicle until this one and we bit the bullet thinking it would be worth it since we wouldn’t have to worry about truck issues for at least 2-3 years rather we are dealing with this crap within 2-3 weeks. First Ram truck and now I know why people stay with Chevy and Ford ... please if anyone has a fix with these issues please please let me know .....

Please tell us the model of your Ram and what options you have on it. Also, have you been to a dealer yet for repair and what, if any, was the results.
Regard number 5, you may want to read the Owners manual closely regarding interior lighting. What you think that "little wheel" is for and what it really is for may not agree. In a nutshell, the little wheel on the left, closest to the driver's door only controls small LED lights in door and lower part of cabin. The lights at full brightness can hardly be seen in daylight, so are best adjusted at night. The wheel to the right controls brightness of dash and info/nav screen. To best of my memory, no control over brightness of overhead lights.

Regard number 3, USB ports, I rarely use, but again, if you check the manual, you may find that some or all are not powered unless the ACC or engine is on.

Backup camera is definitely a dealer issue, as is the most important on your list, dying engine.

thanks for the quick feedback
the truck is a 2wd Tradesman, and went to the dealership who said they could not repeat the problem so non issue very frustrating. #5 it was night, truck on and idling and the switch was doing nothing not in the door not in the lower part of the cabin.
#3 is while the truck is driving down the road. Dealership lost interest in my concerns as soon as i signed those papers dont know what to do feel like im screwed with a lemon!

Duke,

Sorry to hear about the issues with your truck.

If you could, please post your dealer experience on the thread below, as we are compiling a list of good/bad dealers to help fellow forum members:

Contact Ram Care through this forum, maybe they can help motivate the dealer. If an option try another dealership. Sorry you are having these problems.

Hi Jonis_17,

I sincerely apologize for the trouble you are experiencing with your new truck. To clarify, have you brought these concerns to the attention of your Ram dealer? If not, I kindly recommend connecting with them as they are in the best position to assist. Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated in your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.

#5. If you do not have ambient lights, the only bulb that switch controls is a tiny light in the overhead console that shines down onto the lower console.

One thing j have to add; I was also having issues of my truck for no reason dying, except mine did it I think 6 or 7 times, and 3 of those I was doing 80mph on the interstate. After multiple trips to 3 different dealers (I would've preferred just going to the same one, but each time it broke down on the highway I was in different towns so had to have it towed to nearest dealership) and being without it nearly 3 weeks, they diagnosed it as a fuel pump, replaced my unit, and ever since then it hasn't happened yet. They couldn't tell me what was wrong with the fuel pump, which makes me think they decided to just throw parts at it, but that's what they did, and the issue has at least up to the present been resolved.

The light that one switch controls is the reading light, it is a little amber light in your overhead lighting and shines down on the lower console as HeliPilot stated. At night put your right hand up near the front interior lights and roll the knob up and down and you will see the difference.

We purchased a Ram 2019 1500 Limited Crew Cab 4 x 4 this spring. All seemed OK for a bit until we started to notice the left cameras flickering and sometimes blacking out as we reversed the truck to exit our driveway. This happened intermittently. We used the truck to tow our trailer to the Black Hills. During our two day journey at night during a rain storm, our dash and screen lights started to flicker. Then the lights on both the dash and middle screen started to go off and on. At times, while driving, I could not see our speed on our dash indicator at all as it was dark in the cab. This did not affect the outside headlights. My husband took a video of this occurrence so we could present it to the service department. I made an appointment at the dealer service center for Friday, November 15, 2019. They had the vehicle for a few hours and called me up to the desk to let me know that they would need to contact Chrysler to inquire as to what to do and I would need to return the truck to the service department at another date. We made another appointment to return with the truck for Monday, December 2, 2019. This past weekend, before the appointment, we used the truck on Friday evening and then it was parked for the entire day on Saturday due to heavy snowstorms in our area. On Saturday evening, while out with the dogs, we noticed that the running boards did not retract when we used it on Friday evening and were now full of snow. On Sunday, we cleaned off the running boards and decided to try and get the running boards retracted. We used both key fobs but neither would open the door. We then used the actual key inside the fob to open the door to start the truck but it was completely dead. We tried to jump the truck on Monday morning as we had the return service appointment that day. We had no success. We even contacted the service manager by phone while we were attempting to do this for any direction he might be able to provide. After a few suggestions with no luck, he suggested we get the truck towed in. We called AAA who came out and was able to get the truck started with a power jump. We left it run for a while to charge the battery, then my husband left to take the truck up to the dealer. He was only gone for a short time and returned as the RPMs on the truck were at 4500 to 5000 and he was only able to go 25 MPH. We then had to call AAA again to return with a flatbed truck. At present (Wednesday 12/4/19) the truck is still at the dealer and we have no updates but only told they were checking into software updates and still working on electrical issues but not having anything act up at this time. I just now received another update - the technician is going to open up a STAR case to Chrysler to see if they have any ideas on things to inspect.

(For an additional slap in the face - the rental car they provided us to use while they were working on our truck only had a little over 1/8 tank of gas and the contract stated our credit card would be charged $120.00. My husband would not sign the contract until the charge was deleted.)

I received this notice in my email this morning.
Your vehicle MAY be involved in a safety recall and MAY create a safety risk for you or your passengers. If left unrepaired, a potential safety defect could lead to injury or even death. Safety defects must be repaired by a dealer at no cost to you.

Why am I getting this email?
You are receiving this message because you requested to be notified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) if there is a safety recall that may affect your vehicle.

The following may apply to one or more of your vehicles if your vehicle is listed below. Click on the NHTSA Recall ID Number below to read more about the safety issue and the reason for the recall.

To find out if your specific passenger vehicle is included in the recall, use our VIN Look-up Tool.

What is a recall?
When a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle creates an unreasonable risk to safety or fails to meet minimum safety standards, the manufacturer is required to fix that vehicle at no cost to the owner. That can be done by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund (for equipment) or, in rare cases, repurchasing the car.

What should I do if my vehicle is included in this recall?
If your vehicle is included in this recall, it is very important that you get it fixed as soon as possible given the potential danger to you and your passengers if it is not addressed. You should receive a separate letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, notifying you of the recall and explaining when the remedy will be available, whom to contact to repair your vehicle, and to remind you that the repair will be done at no charge to you. If you believe your vehicle is included in the recall, but you do not receive a letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, please call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or contact your vehicle manufacturer or dealership.

Thank you for your attention to this important safety matter and for your commitment to helping save lives on America's roadways.
